Love Yourself First Kindness Kickoff with Orly March 2nd 2021
Hey guys, Orly Wabi here, founder of LifeVest Inside, and I want to thank each and every one
of you for deciding to kick off your week with me on the Weekly Kindness Kickoff with Orly,
coming at you at the beginning of every week, where I do a reading from my book,
Kindness Boomerang, How to Save the World and Yourself Through 365 Daily Acts. And then I give
you, myself, and all of us out there an exciting kindness challenge based on the reading. If you
want to get a copy of the book, you could pick it up on our website, lifevestinside.com. All of the
proceeds go directly to the nonprofit organization to help us to continue to spread positivity into
the world. Also, you could check it out on one of the online retailers, Amazon, Barnes & Noble,
Books A Million, Indiebound, iTunes, Target. So check it out. It makes for a great gift for
yourself and also to gift forward to somebody else. And it's broken into 365 pages, one page
for every day of the year. And for each day, an act of kindness, an inspirational quote,
and then a short reflection on the power of paying it forward, giving you the opportunity
to become aware of the endless possibilities that are around you to engage in kindness and really
bring positivity to other people's lives. So today's act is coming to us from March 2nd.
And there were so many that I liked over the course of this week. I didn't even know which
one to pick, but I landed on this one. And the act goes as follows. Take a little extra time
to make yourself feel special today. Doll yourself up, make your favorite breakfast,
wear your favorite shoes. The list is endless. Quote by Lucille Ball. Love yourself first
and everything else will fall into line. And the reflection, when you feel good on the inside,
you radiate a unique aura of positivity that has the power to attract a great deal of endless
possibilities into your life. When our world seems chaotic, taking the time to bring order
to our appearance does wonders for our inner spirit. Such a simple act, you know, taking a
little bit of extra time to do something special for yourself. Just this past week, I had an
opportunity to give a talk to a group of students. And one of them asked me a question and she said
to me, Orly, what does a person do if they're finding themselves in a really scary, dark
depression? How can a person help to get themselves out of a place of depression?
There were many, many things I shared with her, but I want to just share with you one of the
things that I shared. And I said to her, I said, one of the things that you could do
is to be able to set aside, even if it's a little bit of time in your day or in your week, okay,
if it's too much to do it in your day, to set aside a little bit of time that is yours and
absolutely yours for you to do something that is special to you, whatever that might be,
whether it's going for a walk or watching a movie or painting or whatever, playing basketball or
playing a musical instrument or listening to music, whatever it may be something small,
that is yours and yours alone that nobody else can touch that you put in your schedule.
And it doesn't make a difference. What comes that's there. And it's for you. It's really
important to set aside time for ourself to make ourselves feel good, because when we're feeling
good, what ends up happening is we radiate that positivity out into the world. And that energy
makes other people feel good. And then it continues to ripple. So it's, it's really wild
that you have the ability. Think about it for a second. Think about the amount of people that
you bump into each day. Now I know that it's less right now because so many of us are maybe stuck
at home. We're not doing our regular day-to-day things, but even with zoom or with social media,
just think about how many people's lives you come across each and every day. It's, it's wild.
Three thousands of people's lives that you're coming across. Now, if you find yourself in a
place of real positivity and happiness and joy, the likelihood is that energy that you feel,
even though you can't necessarily see it, it's going to radiate onto others. It's going to give
light to others. It's like you're a candle, right? And you're lighting a lot of other people's candles,
yet you're still retaining your flame. But the opposite is also true. If we're feeling
negative energy, the likelihood is we're going to give that negative energy out. Now I'm not saying
don't feel negative ever. You have to only be positive because that's not real realistic.
It's okay to have our days where we feel down. It's okay to experience, like I say so many times,
the full gamut of emotions that there is to experience. It's okay. Yes, we have to know how
to be able to lift ourselves back up, but oftentimes the way to impact so much change,
or we talk about acts of kindness. So many people see kindness as an action that we do outwardly
with others, but it begins so much within ourselves that if we simply take care of us,
this vessel that we've been given on loan, okay, if we take care of our vessel and we feel good,
naturally we're going to make other people feel good. You don't have to even do those actions.
It's an energy that you put out, right? Because kindness isn't just an action. It's not like,
you know, like I always say, it's not like, oh, you know, you schedule it. I do kindness on Mondays
and Fridays from four to five. If you miss me, call me next time. I'll make an appointment for
you. It doesn't work that way. Kindness is the way in which we live. It's the way that we see
the world. But as I always say, it's the way in which we have to, it starts with the way in which
we see ourselves. So the act really for this week, while it might seem like it's selfish,
like we're doing for us, but by taking care of this vessel, we're actually going to impact even
more people's lives because we're coming into contact with all these people. So our energy is
really important. So that's our challenge. The challenge for this week is to think about
something, something that is yours and yours alone, that makes you feel good when you do it.
Of course, it has to be something that's safe. You shouldn't be doing something that's
beyond dangerous that can hurt you, but I'm saying choose something, something that you
love that makes you feel good. It makes you feel special and do it. Don't say, oh, you know,
I'm busy. I'm going to do tomorrow. I'm going to push it off for this day. No, no,
there's no time like the present. I may share with some of you guys, one of the things that
I started doing over the past couple of months, and I love it. It's something I look forward to
each day is going for my daily walks. Now, sometimes you can't go if the weather is really
crazy outside or whatever it is, but for most of the time, just a daily walk, go for a walk.
I don't necessarily have to have a destination. I could take 30 minutes, 45 minutes, up to an hour,
just walking. And you know what I do with my cell phone at the time? I had to put it on
mute and I'm just outside. I'm actually present in the moment. And it actually fills me with a
tremendous amount of energy. Just being in nature, just looking at nature, looking up at the sky,
looking up at the trees, just allowing yourself to be, allowing yourself to just be present in
the moment. It does so much for me. And when I come back from those walks, oftentimes I'm even
more inspired and more energized that ideas end up flowing into my mind. So there's a tremendous
amount of power from, you know, turning off the power. When you turn off the power, you really
energize even, even more so. So that's a challenge to each and every one of you. I'm excited to hear
what you're going to do and how you're going to do it. Just to let you guys know, uh, just this
past month, we had our first monthly dance party and it was awesome. It was so much fun. We had the
best time. We had people that joined us. I didn't even know how many people were going to come. We
were about 70 people from all over the world. I can't remember exactly how many countries. I think
it was about 15 or so countries that we came together and we did a dance each month. We're
doing, we're learning a new dance and the dance is available on our website, on the Dance for
Kindness website. And this month, the March month is coming up shortly in the next few weeks. We
don't have the dance yet available on the site, but it will be there shortly. However, if you go
to danceforkindness.com right on the homepage, you'll see the monthly dance party and you can
already sign up. You just put your name, your email, and then you'll get a notification. Once
the dance is ready, we come together, we dance. It is so much fun. So if you like dancing, this
could be something that fits in perfectly with something that you could do for you. And then
afterwards, we gather together with all the people and we give everybody three acts of kindness,
three acts of kindness in three minutes each. And each one is something simple that you could do
from your computer, from your own screen. And then we come back and we share the experience
with doing that specific act. It's really a lot of fun. So I want to just recommend that you guys
sign up and check that out. Also to let you know that this coming week, we're going to be putting
out the Kindness Flash, our monthly newsletter that goes out in the beginning every month. This
month is all focused on humility. And I think you guys are going to love it. I think the act of
kindness for this month for humility is a really awesome one. I'm not going to, no spoiler alerts
here, but I think you guys will really love it. Thank you guys so much for tuning in. And I hope
to see you again next week. Please do share this with anyone in your family, your friends,
colleagues, loved ones that you feel like will need this message. And remember, you can always
reach out to me. I do answer all of my emails. I love hearing from you guys. You can email me
at orlyatlifefestinside.com. I'm looking forward to next week. Remember it's kindness that keeps
the world afloat. Love you all.
