This is the third here down for
Grace from the Greenside Bunker,
but we're hearing he might
have injured himself.
You know, I watched him hit his second shot.
He pulled his three wood and then he grabbed
his only with his hip or his ribs and
he was languishing up the fairway and
I think he's even got an ice pack on it
as he was walking up the hill.
But he is struggling.
Clutching his ribs there and I'm not that's a.
Boy, you don't want to rib injury any.
Little tear issue here for
Brandon Grace, his second shot,
and here's the reaction.
Yes, see mom.
Well, that's going to be tough to finish.
Yeah. Yeah, if it's a tear in
in one of those intercostal muscles,
there's really only one way out of it,
and that's a cortisone shot.
Hopefully he can get through the rest of today.
It looks concerned, doesn't he?
Watch the reaction here on the follow through.
Oh man, there's no way he finishes.
I think he's done well.
It's an extraordinary situation,
Dom, isn't it?
You just tell us what you can see here.
He's in agony.
Yeah, I'm seeing exactly what you're seeing.
Yeah.
He's waiting.
He wanted to wait for his physio.
I think here he is.
Here he is.
Yeah, that's a very painful injury.
It hurts to breathe at times.
Alright, we're going to bring in our
rules expert for the first time this week.
Tony Zirpoli by way of Magic of Television
in New Jersey.
And Tony, I mentioned earlier that this is allowed.
Is this a rule of golf that allows it?
Is it a regulation, a local rule?
What do we got?
Well, it's in the rule book.
It's not a rule per se, but it is in the rule book.
If a player is injured or gets sick,
the rules will allow him to get some medical attention
and to have someone work on him
for a short period of time.
And it can be found in the rules of golf.
A little unsure about it.
Actually, not really too unsure.
If he can't continue, his team's playing with just
nobody allowed to not count.
His physio just told him he can't play.
Yeah.
He just moved his arm a little bit and he was done.
There's Slugger White.
Slugger's the rules official, and he's
looking at the situation.
Well, as a competitor, this is pretty tough for Brandon Grace.
It's heartbreaking.
But he is competing at the top of the leaderboard
in an extremely lucrative situation, potentially.
Eight under par, just one behind Gino Toccata.
But there are lots of holes to play,
and he looks in massive discomfort, as you can see.
Greg Norman, our commissioner, is out there as well.
I mean, it looks like he is going to soldier on.
Brandon Grace must be going through so many stages here.
Let's listen in.
Yes.
You guys go so long.
Thanks.
You want to just check with them.
They're going to check me.
You guys go so long.
Don't you hear me?
I'm online, so I'm just going to pull out.
I'm on the law, and I'm going.
I am, Cornel Driesen.
Cornel, it looks quite serious.
Can you tell us what the problem is?
Yeah, it's just really acute.
It's definitely, we call it, musculoskeletals,
which means it's very, very likely that he's strained,
possibly intercostal muscle or the oblique muscle.
And as he keeps on swinging, it makes it worse.
So we don't want to risk long-term injury or damage.
And he cannot swing without compensation.
So he's tough enough to brave it out and chip through,
but you can't play a whole tournament like that
and then mess up your chances for the future.
I mean, talking about the future,
how long an injury could this be?
Do you think he'd be ready to play Jeddah next week?
Chances are slim, but we first have
to do a thorough investigation.
It might be a light strain, but if there's a small tear,
there's no chance.
We'll see.
OK, well, we hope for the best.
Anyway, I won't keep you.
You need to work on it.
Thank you.
