Kitesurf in Cumbuco - #1

Hey everyone, it's Renan Romil here. Welcome to my YouTube channel. Right now I just arrived in Fortaleza and I'm gonna be showing you in my first episode how is to be kiting in one of the most popular places for kiting in the world, Cumbuco. I just arrived here. I'm gonna meet with Alex Neto, the local hero from here. So the first thing that you have to do is when you arrive to the airport get a taxi to Cumbuco and then you can start your dream trip for kiteboarding. So right now I'm taking a taxi to Cumbuco and the average price to go over there from the airport to Cumbuco is around 100 reais, that's the Brazilian currency. It takes about 40 minutes without traffic. So here in Cumbuco you can stay in a lot of different places. You can find like really standard hotels too, very charming posadas like this, all kind of different prices. You can kite in front of the hotel because it's a along the beach. So I just arrived here and our first stop, first hotel we're gonna stay in Cumbuco. We're gonna stay here for two nights. I just arrived and I'm waiting for Alex Neto to arrive too. Let's see if we can score a session today already. No, we have to talk in English, man. English? Yeah, I told you. Why? Because the YouTube's in English. Okay, we'll try. Here with Alex Neto, the local hero from Cumbuco. We're gonna shred his spot for the next days. Man, long time I don't see you. Yeah, it's sick to be here, man. I've been kiting with you actually. Yeah, me too, I'm having fun. I'm really pumped for going to a freestyle session in the Caribbean. Yeah, especially like these days there is like some pro riders kiting there. Yeah, people and all the other ones. So we just, yeah, we can go there and have some fun together in the water. Cool, cool. Did you come with a buggy? Should we go already? I think the wind is good, no? I'm always with my buggy, bro. Neto's always ready. So let's go? Should we pack the gear and then we go to Lagoon? Yeah, yeah, let's do that. Yeah, let's have a session then. All right, let's go, man. Boogie race. We're gonna start our trip here in Cumbuco and we're gonna drive along the coast kiting in many different places until a big pass of Jericoacuara, also a very famous place. The high season here for kiting is from July to now November, December. So a lot of people from Europe, when the winter is coming to Europe, they fly over here in Brazil because here you have really warm weather as well. The ocean is very warm so you can enjoy a lot of kite days. There's kites here every single day during the high season. So we just arrived here at Cauípe Lagoon, Alex Neto's home spot. It's his park, everyday park for freestyle. Yeah, right. Good to have you back. I mean you, you're having me back here. It's good to have you back in Lagoon, man. Like I invite you every time you're like busy all around and traveling, but finally I get you back to Cauípe. I'm stoked to be here, man. So yeah, this is the lagoon. As you can see, a lot of pros training here. Leon's here, Maxime, all the girls, Therese, Rita and of course the boss over here. And yeah, let's go to the water. It's gonna be a fun day. Excited to do some hardcore freestyling. It's been a while that I don't go for freestyle. My joints and my bones, they're already hurting just to think about all my crashes I'm gonna have. But like seeing you and all the guys is gonna be sick because it's really motivating. So yeah, let's go for it. I think it looks like it's picking up the wind and I think we're gonna have a good time on the water with all the other boys. Yeah, exactly. We have to stop. So another cool thing to do here in Cumbuco is to grab your kite, pump your kite in front of the hotel you're staying and you can do a downwind all the way to Cauípe lagoon like those guys are doing right now. You can see a group of like 10 people and actually there are people through the whole day going to lagoon and that's one of the favorite ways of Alex Neto how to go to the lagoon, right? Yeah, I really love doing this short downwind because it's a really good warm-up when I go like to go kiting in the lagoon and I like to actually go wave riding because and then I save a little bit of energy to do freestyle in the lagoon. Okay, so that's what we're gonna do. You can take a buggy taxi and put all your gear and tell the driver to meet down the lagoon if you want to take a different gear, more kites, different boards and also you can if you have friends or if you're gonna rent a car you can meet them at the lagoon and that's what we're gonna do. We're just gonna have some fun doing a downwind and later we're gonna shred at the lagoon. So we just came out of the water. We had a session here in Kawipi Lagoon. I must say it wasn't the best session because the wind was a little bit light so everyone was just like riding big kites but we managed to do some stuff and we had fun in the water. Let's see what's gonna happen in the next days. The wind was really light especially for the season we are right now. I was light on my 11 that's the biggest kite I brought just to so you can have an idea how wind is here but yeah it's also I was fun to be here with Neto and all the guys kiting, Maxim, Lia and all the girls from the world tour.
