JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon sits down with CNBC-TV18’s @_prashantnair for a wide-ranging conversation on India-US relations, Russian oil, Ukraine, monetary policy, immigration & the extraordinary scale of the global AI investment boom.
Dimon says it may become “harder and harder” for India to remain non-aligned, while arguing that Washington should not end up punishing India or disrupting global oil markets — over its purchases of Russian crude. He urges India and the US to complete their stalled trade negotiations and says the Russia-Ukraine war could easily drag on for another five years.
On the US economy, Dimon pushes back against changing the Federal Reserve’s 2% inflation target and says he is not in favour of the Fed’s new task-force approach. He argues that enormous demand for capital - from AI, infrastructure, sovereign borrowing and remilitarisation — could keep rates structurally higher.
He also calls for the US to move beyond border control & tackle immigration reform, including DACA, merit-based immigration and a path to citizenship for law-abiding undocumented immigrants. And on the hundreds of billions being poured into AI, Dimon says companies should not look only at immediate returns: in many cases, AI is already becoming “table stakes.”
