Hi, we're Jordana and Grant from Shot in the Dark Travel.
Come join us on our epic adventures around Southeast Asia.
Get ready for an incredible adventure in Da Nang, Vietnam.
Join us as we explore the awe-inspiring Marble Mountains,
delve into the ancient ruins of My Son, soak up the sun on Da Nang's famous beaches
and enjoy the city's vibrant nightlife including breathtaking rooftop bar views.
So we've just got to Marble Mountains and we've decided to do the steps.
It's midday so it's very hot.
So it's going to be interesting on how we cope with these stairs right now.
Yeah, there's an elevator option that almost everyone seems to be getting
and then there's the stairs you can walk up and I thought it can't be too bad
but I'm out of breath and a bit hot just walking to the entrance to the stairs
because it's on the other side so God knows how I'm going to get on with the actual stairs.
But it should be good.
This is one of the main tourist attractions in Da Nang so yeah, should be really nice.
God, these are big steps.
I've only just started and I'm knackered.
I don't think many people get the stairs up.
I think people get the elevator to the top and then get the stairs down.
So we've just set off and pretty much the first person we met coming down was like
oh you're brave going up the stairs
which doesn't fill me with lots of confidence for how big it's going to be.
Not what you want to hear at the start of going up the stairs.
Walking off those two for one glasses of wine.
We've made it.
To be fair, it wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be.
It wasn't a huge set of stairs.
It's just it's so hot and it's steep but it's not it's not a disaster.
I'm glad we did it.
It wasn't very far at all but yeah.
I think it just shows how unfit we are at the moment because it wasn't hard at all
but we're still very out of breath.
Anyway let's go look around Malvern Mountain.
It's so weird that you can see like little mountain peaks
like just in the middle of everything.
It's like a pure big city of houses and shops and restaurants
and then you've just got these weird little mountain peaks.
It's so strange.
Nice little view from up here isn't it?
Lovely.
As well as there being pagodas and lookout points
and loads of shouting tourists for some reason
there are some really cool caves as well.
We just got to the first one.
Gonna go inside and check it out.
Have you enjoyed your rock climbing love?
I'm too hungover for this and it's so hot.
Wear sensible shoes, not flip-flops.
This is not a flip-flop trail.
We have made it to the top.
We've gone through the caves and the views are amazing.
Well worth the treacherous climb up.
At the entrance to the elevator there are loads of people selling things
and like doing the hard sell
and you're just trying to walk through them all
and it's like do you want a coconut?
Do you want some water?
Do you want a drink?
We've got ice cream and it's like oh my god.
Do you want souvenirs?
Do you want sunglasses?
And I was just like ignoring them all
because I was a bit sick of it and a bit like
it's a bit frustrating when you're just trying to get somewhere
and they're all like blocking you to try and sell stuff
and Jordana got chatting to some woman
and she's now committed that we're going to go to her souvenir shop
and buy something because she was so friendly.
We have to.
I was thinking that.
She was so nice.
That is literally her sales plan though.
She's nice to get you to buy stuff and you've fallen for it.
I'm gonna have to buy something from her store.
Like she was so lovely.
She was super super nice.
So this lady has been so nice
so I've just bought a bracelet from her shop.
So 400 Don.
Grant's literally seething about it but I'm happy so.
Come on.
I'm pretty sure we'd massively overpaid and she should have haggled
but what are you gonna do?
She won't listen.
So we had a really cool time at the Marble Mountains.
It was really picturesque, beautiful.
A lot of climbing, a lot of stairs, wear sensible shoes
but we're now here at the Sun Sentry.
My Sun Sentry.
But yeah like it's very out in the sticks
and it's very like you can hear in the background
all the like bugs and everything.
So I'm glad I've teed it up
but we're quite excited to have a look around aren't we?
Yeah yeah it should be really good here.
We were calling it my son
and then the taxi driver didn't understand.
I think that he was calling it me son.
So maybe it's that I don't know.
But yeah this is like a really ancient temple complex
from it started being built 1700 years ago.
So yeah really excited to go in and have a look.
So let's show you guys around.
It's really nice and relaxing here isn't it?
It's lovely.
There's not many tourists either.
No I don't know what time we're here
because it's like nearly four o'clock and it closes at five
but it's a lot cooler.
So it's only like ridiculously hot like the other place now
because it's later.
But yeah there's not a lot of tourists at all.
This is weird.
Just saying how relaxing it is that all the motorbikes come fast.
But other than the motorbikes
we've only actually seen two other tourists so far.
So yeah if it does get busy come late in the evening
because it's dead.
We've done quite a lot of walking today
so I do not fancy the two kilometer walk to the temple.
So we're going to jump in one of the buggies.
It's very picturesque around here.
Super relaxing.
We haven't even got to the temples yet
and already I'm glad we've came.
Like there is mountains, there's just greenery everywhere.
We are quite far out of Da Nang
so it was a maybe a probably 40 minute drive.
And yeah just super relaxing.
You wouldn't have thought we were in a massive hustling bustling city
just a few minutes ago.
So Meesan was built by the Champa dynasty.
They started building it in the 4th century
and they finished building it in the 13th century.
So over a thousand years of adding on extra temples
and extra buildings and improving it.
And the Champa dynasty, that was the kingdom
that controlled the coastal region of southern Vietnam.
So this was right next to their capital of the whole kingdom
and Meesan was a really important part of the capital
because it was where they came to do sacrifices,
to do religious worship
and a lot of the kings were buried here as well.
And then after the fall of the Champa dynasty
this site was just completely abandoned.
So it was everyone had forgotten about it,
no one even knew it was here
and then some explorers rediscovered it in 1885.
Literally all you can hear is all the noises
of like the bugs and everything.
So honest I wish I'd have brought some more bug spray
so definitely definitely put some on.
I haven't been bitten yet
but watch this space because I always get bitten.
So the temples over here have just generally
turned to ruins over time.
There were some bombs that hit this area
in the Vietnam war or the American war
as it's called over here
and there's one crater right behind me here
where you can see where one of the larger bombs landed.
So the ruins in this part of the sanctuary
are made from sandstone
and they were originally built over a thousand years ago
in the year 800 which is absolutely mental.
Jordana was just saying
I bet there's so many animals in here
it's such a lush forest
and then all of a sudden a tree like cracked near us
and this big massive monkey jumped out.
I couldn't quite get my camera up in time
and if you've watched this channel before
you'll know Jordana is terrified of monkeys.
She really gets scared of them
so she's had a few bad experiences in the past
so she just cacked herself then and ran off.
Literally literally nearly pooed myself
like no I was like no this is not this is not all right.
You all right loves?
I just keep hearing Nav rustling
and I'm like oh my god there's a monkey.
I'm literally terrified.
I'm probably being really silly
because we saw one monkey but yeah.
This place is absolutely beautiful
and it's really giving me like Angkor Wat vibes
like the old temples look quite similar
to what you would see in Cambodia in Angkor Wat
and yeah it's just really really beautiful.
It's been such a lovely time
just walking through all the wilderness
and looking at all the beautiful temples.
It's been really really nice.
This is definitely a must do in Da Nang.
We've had a great day out exploring some of the sites in Da Nang.
I hope you guys have liked watching
what we've been getting up to.
Before we get changed and head out for some drinks
and food this evening
I've realized we haven't showed you our hotel room yet
so we are staying at a hotel called Legend Boutique Hotel
and it's just off the beach
like quite near to the main central area
with the bars and restaurants
and all the things to do and see
so the location's great.
It cost us I think it was 850,000 Dong a night
so like pretty reasonably priced for a nice hotel
and I'll just show you the room now.
Not the best view you can just see
the reason I'm showing it
you can just see the beach here
so you can see how far it is away
it's like a minute two minute walk away.
Nice big spacious room
very comfy bed
bath in the bedroom for some reason
there is massive TV
desk to do a bit of work.
The only thing I'd say is
it feels a little bit like it's been designed by a man
and it feels a little bit like
someone who isn't very practical
and doesn't think about the practicalities
has gone oh that looks nice
that looks nice
I'll whack that in
and there's just a few little bits
like there's absolutely no storage anywhere
so you'll see we've just got piles of stuff
because there's nowhere to put any of our things
which is just a little bit odd
and having the sink and the bath in the living room
even though it's a big room
it feels like oddly laid out
which I'm not quite sure
it hasn't ruined our time here
we'd still recommend it
it's a nice hotel
it's like yeah nice enough
and then the bathroom again pretty modern
like nice shower, toilet
not much to show really
there is a swimming pool on floor 11
which is pretty cool
and that was one of the main reasons we booked this
it was basically the location near the beach
and the swimming pool that swung it for us
I'm gonna go out and see a bit more of Da Nang
we're gonna hopefully go to the night market
and we're gonna see the Dragon Bridge
I think at a weekend it does some sort of display
I don't know if it's fireworks or lights or whatever
but sounds good and it's nearby
so we're gonna check that out
we've come for a drink at Brilliant Top Bar
and I would definitely definitely recommend coming here
like the views are incredible
we're right on the river
and it just looks amazing
there's so many lights
like big buildings
there's the bridge just over here
like it just looks amazing
so definitely get yourself down here
either for food or drinks
we are still in Da Nang
and we're super excited this morning
we've got up really early to go to Ba Na Hills
so we've had such a fun day at Ba Na Hills
and if you want to see the full video that we've uploaded
you can check that out in the link in the description
but now we're here at My Kee Beach
and unfortunately it's a bit overcast
but we're gonna still enjoy ourselves
because we love the beach
and it's still nice and warm anyway isn't it?
it's still super hot
after a super busy morning
we've just had a really relaxed afternoon
it's been really nice
we've basically just been on My Kee Beach
having a bit of a walk
stopping off at one of the bars or restaurants
having a couple of beers
and then having a bit more of a walk
and it's been so nice
I can really see why Da Nang and My Kee Beach
are so popular with tourists
it is a gorgeous beach
super soft white sand
lovely warm water
plenty of bars and restaurants and cafes to get drinks
and it is incredibly long
so I've just googled it
because I was like
this is maybe the longest beach I've ever been on
it's 10 kilometers so six miles long
it is absolutely insane
this is easily one of the best beaches we've been on
in the whole time in Vietnam
so we're here again in Koh Khun Phato
and I think we've spent like the majority of our time in Da Nang
in this place
like happy hour is so so good
like the wine's really nice
and literally it's so cheap in happy hour
it's 90 000 dong I think
for two glasses of wine in happy hour
so you really can't beat that
that's like super cheap
and as well it's none of that cheap deluxe stuff
it's like proper French, Australian, South African wine
it's really tasty innit
also like I'm currently drinking white wine
but they had like a sparkling rose
which was really really nice
but we've been here that often
they obviously don't have that many people that drink that
we've literally drank all of it
there's no more left
they're not getting any more until Tuesday
but tonight's our last night
which is really sad
because I would have loved another glass of that
but to be fair the white wine is really really nice as well
but yeah definitely get yourself here
we haven't had any food here
but they do meats and cheeses
which look really really good as well
so you need to come here
so we have come to Mr India for tea tonight
the reviews are fantastic
so we thought let's give it a go
see what it's like
we both really like curry
so I'm very excited
starters have just arrived
I say starters
we've got a starter
we've got some onion bhajis
Jordana has gone for the chilli chicken
again
how does this one compare to the others?
it's just got this like sweet spicy taste
and it's really really good
going for a bit of chilli chicken
it is so good
that is honestly fantastic
and also as you were talking the curry has arrived
so I've gone for the one we're sharing
we've gone for the handi chicken
and then we've got our cheese garlic naan
mmm
that is really good
this place has been the best Indian like place
for like curries and meals like that
in Vietnam
wow
yeah
that is good
sorry I just swallowed that
but that is honestly like so nice
I can't really put into words why it's so good
it's just so flavoursome
so the chicken is really tender
there's just so many different flavours in there
it is honestly this is incredible
so Graham what did you think?
this is honestly like top tier
you've got to come here
