20 pounds does not get you far in the UK and especially in London and if you're like me
you're a little bit of a snob and you want to go somewhere nice on a budget and that is what
today's video is all about. We are going to be seeing what we get for 20 quid and starting off
we are going to Zadel. They have got a fantastic set menu in the heart of Soho. Look at this,
the Moulin Rouge. What a beautiful day and yes we are right by the Devonshire which I
reviewed before. We'll go back at Christmas, let's see what we can get for 20 quid, eh?
It's not just a cafe, look at this, Parisian style. We've got a restaurant and a bar. Piccadilly
Circus is literally there so we are in the heart of it. Oh here we go, Prefix.
Two courses £16.99, three courses for 20 quid. The cafe itself is very chic indeed. I love all
the pictures on the wall. Look at this, isn't this cute? Oh I think I showed you this in a
previous video. Look at all the newspapers on the little wooden sticks. Very, very nice. I love the
artwork. But we're going to head on downstairs. Oh I love an immersive kind of restaurant and
that is what I love with these is when you go somewhere and it's also about the vibe,
not just the food. Can you have a fancy lunch or dinner on a reasonable budget? Oh wow,
gosh this is so cool down here. Bit of art deco. It's like a little movie in here. How
cute is this? Look at the chandelier. Oh guys, is this fancy? Is it really £20?
I mean come on, it is like a Wes Anderson movie in here. So this is the beautiful Parisian style
brasserie. I did purposely come when there isn't a live music on. It is on a little bit later,
I think like 6.30. Definitely check the website for the times. Look at the gold, look at the marble.
It is huge in here and this gorgeous bar over there. Nice and cosy. It does get really loud
when the music's on so bear that in mind. But yeah, I just really love it. I feel like they
shushed it a bit, all the uplighting. Gorgeous floor. Okay, so this is what you can get on the
set menu. Egg mayonnaise or potato and leek soup for your starter. Curried dal garlic naan. Oh
okay, I'm gonna have to go for the steak, let's be honest. I wonder if it comes with anything.
American chopped steak and peppercorn sauce. And then we've got a couple of options for dessert
which I'll show you in a bit. Obviously you can go à la carte and depending on the day,
Lundi, Mardi, Mardi, Jeudi etc, you've got little specials. So what day is it today? It's actually
Monday when I'm filming this. A Mard chicken curry is this spesh. They've got a supplement,
oh yeah, if you want the fancy roast chicken on a sundae. And they've just brought along some bread.
I don't know if I'm paid for this. I know that sounds silly but in the UK you do not get
bread for free. Obviously it is a Parisian style. We've got the little Z branding and some butter.
Lovely and warm. I love these tablecloths, these napkins. This is so warm. I am loving it. I'm
going to make a mess eating it. That is so light and fluffy. Yum indeed. Oh that butter is lovely
and creamy. Really really nice. And about 10 minutes later I've got my starter, the leek and
potato soup. I really like this little bowl with some chives on the top. It smells amazing. Camera
is so steamy. Steaming the camera up. Also to note, the lovely lady said do I want it hot or cold. So
again it's great to experience something different. Apparently traditionally in France it's served
cold. I don't think I can quite hack it cold so I went for it to be warm. Can't give her words
actually. I've got coffee. Sorry. My expectations were a little bit low. Leek and potato soup is not
exactly, you know, groundbreaking. This is so creamy. It's got a nice little tang with it with
the chive. Really nice. I'm going to ignore the fact that it's 22 degrees outside but this, on like
a cold day in London, this is lush. Yeah really really nice but also I like the fact that it's
not too thick. Maybe I should have tried it cold. Comment below. Have you had leek and potato soup
traditionally in France with it being cold? I'm not sure I feel about that. Honestly a solid eight
and a half out of ten. It's definitely more on the leek side which I do like and yeah a little bit
creamy. Lovely and chubbly indeed. I don't know what this camera's doing. It's really struggling.
Have I got food on the lens? I tend to do that. Hold on. People in the comments are going to die.
Snails 17.25. Look at this. No pound signs. So many restaurants now don't have pound signs.
Yeah you can get steak a la carte, normal things, steak tartare etc. I won't show you the whole menu
or you can go really fancy. Oh little sherry bits. Six for 25 pounds. They sound quite nice don't they?
Oh dressed dorset crab. Anyway it's a massive menu. I swear last time I came here they did not
have the English underneath it. I swear it was just like a French menu. Look at the cute little drinks
trolley. Love that. We haven't had a drinks trolley in a while. And then the bar. Look at that. The art
I feel like this has had a bit of a refurb. I can't really remember but it looks very fresh.
Oh actually quick one. If you are coming for a tipple or two, 14 quid is about normal dare I say
for London these days. Sparkling. And then they do have some non-alcoholic. I think non-alcoholic
cocktails are just expensive everywhere. But yeah 10 quid. A pint 8.50. That's quite a lot isn't it?
And they always get you with a soft drink. So 5.25 for a coke. That is a lot. Something that is great
about doing a prefix menu, a set menu, is that you get to try a more expensive restaurant. Obviously
at a good value. Obviously the options are a little bit limited versus the a la carte.
But yeah they definitely get you with the drinks. And the main course is served. I believe I
pronounced this steak hatchet. American chopped steak. Yeah so it's like a mince but it's like
really good quality mince into this kind of patty shape. It's got some peppercorns on top. Lovely
generous portion on the peppercorn sauce. And guys it comes with frits. It comes with skinny
fries. Look at this. I love this. I feel like you get quite a lot of food already. So so far what
I've had is only 16.95. Let's dive in. Just film up my nose. Yeah I think I thought this was like
a steak and this is what I mean. It's fun to try different things. I did ask for it to be medium.
It's a little bit on the well. But that is the ground mince. Oh this looks nice.
It's quite a dense mince actually. Um yeah it feels like a really really dense
dare I say like burger format. A nice grilling on the top. The sauce is... hold on this camera
is focusing on me instead of the food. Camera this is about the food not me.
Oh the peppercorn sauce is so nice and peppery. A good amount of pepper. Oh yeah strong pepper.
That is lovely. A lot of times guys when you go and get like peppercorn sauce with your steak
and it's just like really mediocre. Nice and creamy. A little bit juicy there. Slightly on
the drier side um as it obviously hasn't got too much fat in it but that's why you need
lashings of the sauce.
This is much nicer than I thought it was gonna be. Yeah lovely and it hasn't got like fat oozing
out of it like you know like a traditional burger is. I know this is not a burger that's why you've
got all this beautiful sauce and it's great because you've got the crusty bread and a ton
of fries to have or frits to soak up the gorgeousness. You know I'm going to. Oh guys
yum indeed. Open up. Oh hang about. Those fries are amazing. These little chips. Comment below
frits, chips, fries. I've dropped it in the sauce now. Hold on. Oh these are so crispy. They're
light golden. Sounds silly but they're absolutely boiling. The amount of times you go places and
you get a little basket of fries or whatever and they're not that warm. Do you know what I mean?
Really really nice. I could have got ketchup. I thought I said no. Gotta dunk it into the
peppercorn. Lovely jubbly. I like the tableware. This is a beautiful napkin like a jacquard and I
have to say I love all the artwork on all the menus. Very nice. There is a huge extensive
wine menu which is really rather huge. Just to note most of the wines are 175 ml and they start
at £9.25 if you want to go all out and champagne glasses from 11 quid. I think the only thing that
would be nice where it's like half full when I'm filming this is obviously where there's no live
music. I purposely did come like I said so that I didn't have like issues with the audio. They
could maybe have this like a little background just playing through the speakers. Just a little
bit of like soft piano because I think even though it's like a really really nice setting it's like
quite echoey so just like a little bit of a tune but this has really surprised me. Anyway I'm gonna
munch the rest of this. I eat my words. It is medium. I know some people hate medium but that
is beautifully cooked. Yeah it's a slightly more dense drier little beef moment. Lovely and I
appreciate that they give you tap water. I know that sounds silly but in a lot of places in London
they really don't. They're a bit funny about it. I love that they've got like super comfy seating
but also yeah big parties come on your own on a date. I gave the menu back but we've got these
two options. It's like an ice cream blackcurrant and poached peach I believe and then this caramel
and chocolate. It's kind of like a almost like a millionaire shortbread. I know I shouldn't call
it that but that I'm thinking the ice cream one with the fruit maybe. Also I kind of wish I'd
tried that soup cold. I can't tell you like how good that leek and potato... leek and potato is
kind of boring. It was so good and the peppercorn that's got to be one of the nicest, tangiest,
strongest peppercorn sauce I have had in a very long time. Oh look at this! I really like the kind
of authentic I guess brasserie style tableware. This is the pudding, the dessert, look at that
whippy cream. There's ice cream underneath it, poached peach and blackberry and it was like a
kind of compote or something with little crumbs on the top. Also the lovely lady was like you get
a little macaron. Macaron is the best way to remember it because there's a lid on it. It's
not macaroon, macaron and it's strawberry with an elderflower cream. How is this £20? What?
The most expensive fast food chain in the UK, I think in the world, is actually Five Guys still.
I did do a video on them a while ago. I think a burger and fries is like 12 quid so this is mad.
Look at the spoon. You used to have these for like Knickerbocker Glory. Did anyone have those as kids?
Anyway, film the food Hannah, not the table. All of the cream. Oh guys, would you like some? Yum,
yum, yum. Also if you are enjoying this video do subscribe, do comment below, do like and all that
jazz. Also filming with this camera I've realized is actually so awkward but it gives you just a
real visual look on the food and I do prefer it. So awkward level 10. I hope you're enjoying. Oh
yeah, look it's got like vanilla ice cream in there. Oh that blackberry is so nice. Great little
combo. Yeah, the vanilla ice cream, beautiful cream. Let's have a bit of the peach. Peach is amazing
and I actually think the little bit of crumbs makes such a difference. It's a decent portion
as well. Yeah, like the squidginess of the sweetness of the peach with the little crumbs
and that vanilla ice cream is really lovely. Yeah, I really like the blackcurrant. Sometimes
blackcurrant can be a little bit too tart in dessert. Honestly, this is brilliant. Anyway,
I'm going to munch this and I'll see you in a second. Macaron, macaron. Oh, very nice indeed.
Oh, hold on. The elderflower has got quite the tang. I wasn't expecting that. That was going to
be the last clip. Really nice. A slightly more chewier macaron. Just a really nice little end
to the meal. Okay, we have a £1 cover charge. That is for your bread and the macaron, I assume.
But basically that combo comes to £19.95 plus the quid. £23.94. That is with your 15% service charge.
£3 there. Oh, the American bar is open so I'm just going to quick sneak. How have I never been in here?
This is beautiful. Look at the art deco. Why? Nice music, comfy seats. Yes, please. Oh, hold on. I need
to quickly show you Crazy Crocs. They have got loads of events though on jazz music,
Black Cat Cabaret shows. The Mind Reader, £24.50. Oh, wow. Okay, I need to add that to my list. I
always forget that this exists. Also, they have this little postcard box. You can give a donation,
give a postcard, little lifts. It just feels so authentic. Technically £20. I've really struggled
to get my words out on this. I do apologise. But yeah, what did you think of that? Add Zarelle
Brasserie to your list. Okay, you're going to get a couple in this video. So we're off to the next.
All right, so that wasn't fancy enough for you guys. Where else can we go that is great value,
that is still luxurious? We are going to a wonderful steakhouse today. Some say this is
the best steakhouse in the UK. They have 15 locations with eight of those being here in
London. And we are on the cobbled streets here, people. We are in Covent Garden. I thought we'd
come to this one because I think it's pretty cool inside. Hawksmoor is definitely a treat,
so let's see what they've got. And they do actually have both a lunch and a dinner set
course. One course, £21. Okay, we're going a few quid over on this one. Two courses for £26
and three courses for £30. Hopefully you can read and you can also get it in the evening.
They just don't do the one course option. But there we go. Let's head on in. Okay,
slight hiccup. I'm going to be real with you. I wasn't going to put this in the video.
I actually called up Hawksmoor just to check to see what time they were open and what time
the menu was available. And it's currently closed. It opens again at 4.30, which I understand,
which is why I called. But when I gave them a buzz, it was like an AI, I know,
eye roll automated thing that I had a whole conversation with. And I was like,
oh, are you open at 3.30? And it was like, yes, come and enjoy. Which is wrong. They were super
nice in there and they were like, the bar's open, but yeah, food isn't for a little while. So I'm
going to do a shopping and I'll see you in approximately six seconds. Okay, let's try
again. There are worse places. I have to kill time. Let's get some food. Oh, this is really,
really nice. I've never been to this location. I did see online that it's got this beautiful,
original brickwork and stuff. Very rustic indeed. Super comfy chairs as well. I feel a bit like I'm
taking a test at school all in a row. But anyway, let's have a look as I've already shown you. So
starters, I think I'm going to go, we'll start with three courses. I'm going to go with the
potted beef and bacon. And for the mains, I'm going to have to get the steak. Apologies,
I'm doing two beef options in this video, but it's quite nice to see that it's not all beef.
Get some chicken. Oh, and I do get, sorry, I'm going to have to go for the beef dripping chips
there, haven't I? Quick snoop of the menus. They've got a Negroni week at the time of filming
this. £10, that is pretty good value. So the lady said the portions were big. This is ridiculous.
This is the potted beef and bacon. You get two massive Yorkshire puddings. These humongous,
this beautiful, I guess it's, is it a beef or bacon? We'll find out. Kind of gravy sauce. And
that's melted, that's butter on the top there. It's like a, I don't know, like a terrini kind
of thing. And you dip it, you, I don't know, spread it. Yum. This is just the starter. Also,
I did cheat a little bit. I won't include it, but I did go for the £10 bargain Negroni.
Pour it on. Gosh, I need a camera person so badly. This looks insane. I'm going to just use my
fingers and eat this a little bit. No stop. It's like really sweet. It's like caramelised onions
or something. That is, how is this a starter? So this gravy is steaming hot and it's so sweet.
It's literally like caramelised onions in a gravy. But these Yorkshire puddings are super crispy.
They're a little bit darker than I would usually have actually. But this potted element, I feel
like this is a big pot. I can pick you up and show you. You get loads. Ignore the lack of nail
varnish. I don't have my nails done. Don't come for me. Yeah, potted bacon and beef. Oh my gosh,
I'm going to eat it like this. A really succulent beef and bacon mix in there with that butter
on the top. It is cold, which is quite nice. And yeah, like she said, you can just spread it on the
on the Yorkshire pudding. It's a bit dark to film in here, but yeah, you get quite the portion.
It's really succulent, really juicy. This gravy is insane. Yeah, it's like a really sweet caramelised
bit of bacon to pour on these. I can't get my words out. This is amazing. Okay, maybe the rum
will be really bad. I feel like no one is talking about this set menu. Maybe I'm mistaken. The people
around me have got like the bougie steaks and like the macaroni and cheese and stuff. But look
at this. I haven't had a Yorkshire pudding in a while. This is wonderful.
I'm going to ignore that it's now 25 degrees outside. It is boiling
while I'm filming this. What's going on? Summer is lasting forever.
So good. Wow, wow, wow, wow. So distracting. I haven't even tried the Negroni. Hold on a minute.
It's been one of those weeks, guys. We'll put it that way. I've just realised a lot of people
won't know what Yorkshire pudding is. It's like a British, it's what you have with a roast dinner.
It's made of like a batter that's eggs, flour, milk, I think water, and it's golden and crispy.
It's super savoury, but like rich in flavour. And you can get it with like meat drippings.
They can be quite oily sometimes, but they are so lush. And no, they're not a pancake. I know
I'm going to get that question. But yeah, they can really vary and they go cold quite quickly.
I love them. I literally would have them every day if I could and just dip them and everything.
So this, I think, is a really fun starter. 9.25. Amazing. Right. Main course. So yeah,
is Fancy Pants. I just wanted to show you a little bit of the main menu. So their entry
level steak is £29 and you can spend honestly, quite the fortune. It is very premium. There's
just no one on the phone. Oh, and as a tourist, this is pretty cool. It's got like a map and
notable areas like the Savoy Theatre. Yeah, pretty cool. And the main course has arrived. I really
like this plate. Yeah, I really like the kind of steakhouse kind of branding aesthetic. So yeah,
this is the rump steak. You can pay, I think, £5 more and go for a slightly better cut. But I
wanted to get what was included. Yeah, £5 extra was the sirloin. This is the rump. It's 200 grams.
I asked for it to be medium. It comes with a little bit of salad and it did come with a side
of the dripping chips as well. These look really nice. I like the little bottom. Look at the Fancy
Pants ketchup. Very nice. Yeah. And also this Negroni is really lovely. Ooh, let's dive in.
I feel like it's a rule actually that you have to like grab a chip. These look so crispy.
Wow. Hold on a minute. Wow, wow, wow. Oh, my nails look really bad. I'm really sorry.
These look so crispy. They're fluffy inside, so crispy on the outside. I was saying here,
it's kind of a mixture of like formal and informal. You've got some tourists,
you've got some people in suits. It's a bit of a mixed one. I would say the actual service,
they're really friendly. It's very, very informal. So it's not like a really awkward
kind of pretentious steakhouse. So rump generally is a little bit more affordable. Let's be honest,
it does tend to be a little bit more firm, just the type of cut it is, and a lot stronger in beef
flavour. That is medium. I would usually go medium rare, but I feel like people always get upset in
the comments. Oh, super juicy, super, like a little bit smoky, very strong in beef flavour,
which I really, really like. A nice char on the outside. I think I like it when it's really,
really charred, but that's just a personal preference. Yeah, decent. I think this is
pretty nice. I think the chips definitely win. Yeah. Understandably, it is beautifully cooked.
200 grams. It's not the biggest piece, but you know, you have just also had a huge starter as
well. Look at the crispy fluffiness on these, and the ketchup is really nice as well. Definitely a
homemade ketchup. More tomatoey, less vinegary than Heinz. With the price considered, I'm gonna
have to give that main course like a solid like 9.25 again. I don't give 10s very often. Okay,
dessert. Sticky toffee pudding, sundae, peanut butter, you can read. Which one should we get?
Oh, I feel like I'm gonna have to get the sticky toffee pudding. Everyone's gonna shout at me
otherwise. Oh, I feel a bit bad. I feel like I should be having Calfreezy's burger. I'll have to
come back another time. I think it's available for a long time. I should have got this in my
burger video, but yeah, 20 quid, that is crazy good value. Or five quid extra for fries and the
sauce. Chilled reds seem to be a lot more popular now. I don't know how much these are per the glass.
Yeah, quite a few options actually. Oh my gosh, oh my gosh. £30 a glass. Gosh. Of course I went for
the sticky toffee sundae. I keep calling it pudding, sorry. Look at that big dollop of ice
cream on the top. Looks like, I don't know, some toffee on there. Look at this. Oh my gosh, crumbly
bits. It's so dark in here, they've just turned the lights down even more. This is gorgeous, nice
and freezing cold. Oh my gosh. It's mad because set menus, I mean look at the size of this,
usually aren't the most exciting things in the world, which I probably said about 10 minutes
ago, but I'm pleasantly surprised by this. Obviously there's like a time limit and you
need to make sure it's actually open when you come here people. This, I mean the people next
to me I think have got like a £100 steak, I'm not even joking. So you know, you can definitely
do things on a reasonable, more reasonable price point if you come at the right time.
This ice cream looks amazing. It's like an actual baked sticky toffee pudding that's then been
broken up. Squidgy, not too sweet actually, and then it's got the toffee sauce
drizzled on the top, and obviously the contrast with the ice cream. The ice cream's beautiful.
Now sticky toffee pudding, usually you get like a big chunk of square of toffee sponge cake
basically, and it can be quite sickly. Let's be real here people, the toffee can be a little bit,
I find a little bit sickly, but this is great because you're almost getting in front of a bit
cake. Ice cream, there's loads of toffee down there if you really want to go for it. I literally
had to message my friend being like, we need to come here all the time and try the entire menu.
Sticky toffee in a sundae is a great idea. So yeah, it's got all these toffee cake bits around
the outside. They're not crumbly, they're super moist, super yummy, and a huge amount of ice
cream. I actually think I, dare I say, maybe prefer this. But yeah, lush indeed. I didn't
take a photo of it. Follow me on Instagram for photos that I haven't taken. Damn it. Hold on a
minute, it's not just ice cream at the bottom, I'm just munching away. There's these kind of like,
I think they're like cream lumps, they are so nice. Absolutely gorgeous with the ice cream. 9.5,
that was lovely. Also drink, I know that's not included. Give that a 9 out of 10. Beautiful,
very nice. Anyway, I'm gonna get the bill and I will see you outside.
That has blown me away. Sorry if it was a bit dark and dingy. I've got food on the lens. Again,
how am I doing this? It's very difficult to film on your own, but that's my problem. I hope you
enjoyed that. That was blimmin' fantastic. The service was, it was just chill. They were so
friendly. Yeah, I'm gonna have to give them like 10 out of 10 for service, to be honest with you.
I think totally Hawksmore. Appreciate. Okay, total £30 plus 15% service charge. Boom. I'm not
gonna show the receipt because I did have that extra drink, which I don't think I should include
in the score. But overall guys, for like £34, £33, that is an absolute bargain. I feel sick
in the best way possible. Fantastic food quality, a great way to try Hawksmore without spending £100
on a steak. I'm gonna have to give that like a 9.8. I thought that was bloody fantastic.
So add it to your list. And it's still light outside, lovely, jubbly. Okay, people, so the
point of this video is to show you, I was gonna try and do three, but I think the video will be
too long. I wanted to show you that you can go to some of these fancy pants places on a budget,
just double check when the menus are. There was some confusion in there as well, because the
Calfreezy burger is actually only available during lunch hours rather than dinner. But anyway,
just have a good, don't phone up. The only thing I'd say is Hawksmore, get rid of the AI thing,
because that wasn't helpful at all. But anyway, I hope you enjoyed that and the places were not
pretentious. Everyone was really friendly and I am incredibly full. Wow, it smells of piss.
New food videos every Tuesday at 6pm and travel out and about. I will do hotels. I know people
are getting grumpy at me because I haven't done hotel reviews. Guys, at school holidays, it was
just too much money. So we will get back on the hotel reviews eventually, apologies, and I will
go and get my nails done tomorrow. Anyway, I'm gonna love any of you. Thank you so much for
watching and I will see you in a few days time. Subscribe. Bye, guys.
