Today I'm going to show you how to make super cute baby shoes. They make the perfect baby
shower gift and they're not too hard to make. They come in sizes newborn all the way up to toddler.
The link in the description box below will take you directly to these pattern pieces.
Go ahead and print them out and cut out your pattern pieces on your fabric.
Out of each pattern piece you're going to cut four on the fabric, two for the lining,
and two for the outer fabric of each piece. You're also going to need two pieces of elastic.
The sizes are in the link in the description box. It takes you to the pattern which has all
of the cutting dimensions you'll need. This is optional but I added fusible fleece interfacing
to the back of each of my outer shoe pieces just for a little bit of extra padding.
The first thing we're going to do is make the heel of our baby shoe. To do that you're going
to get your lining fabric and your outer fabric and lay them with the right sides together. Sew
across the top, the longest side, using about a one-fourth inch seam allowance. Once you have it
open it up and fold your fabric so that the seam is at the top. If you need to you can iron this in
place so that it holds. Now you're going to sew the elastic casing for the back of your shoe so
that the shoe stays on baby's foot using about a three-eighths inch seam allowance. Sew all the way
across the back top of your heel. Now we're going to feed the elastic through the elastic casing
that was just sewn. Get a safety pin and your elastic piece. Put the safety pin at the very
top of your elastic piece. Close the safety pin and then just insert the safety pin into your
elastic casing tube and pull the safety pin until the end of your elastic is flush with that first
opening here. You can see here that I pulled the elastic just to the tip of that opening and then
I'm going to sew a small basting stitch to hold it in place going back and forth a couple of times
right at the edge of the fabric. Now you're going to pull the safety pin so that the elastic comes
right out of the opening and sew another small basting stitch to hold it in place.
This is what it looks like and now pull both ends of your heel and it will adjust your elastic.
Now we're going to work on adding this heel to the top toes of the shoe. This is the toe
of the shoe. I'm going to lay the heel piece right side down matching it with the top left corner
of the toe piece. The elastic casing should be on the right with the open edges on the left.
Pin or clip this in place. Get your lining toe piece and face it right side down right on top
and sandwich these pieces together and clip them all together. Open up that top toe piece
and you're going to bring your heel piece all the way around to the other top piece of your toe.
This is going to be the hardest part of doing it. Once you do it once or twice you'll get it
but then you're going to line it up just like you did on the other side with your elastic facing the
inside of the toe and sandwich these three layers together and pin or clip it in place.
You might have to play around to maneuver it in place and that's okay. Tuck your fabric however
you need to and it might feel a little bit awkward but now you're going to flip all of your fabric so
that it's flush. You can see here how it's kind of poking out. If you just play with it a little bit
it'll give you a nice flat seam on the top and you're going to sew all the way across the top
using a 1 4 inch seam allowance. This is what it looks like when you're done and now you're
going to flip this fabric so that your outer shoe is facing the top. Now you can see how it's
starting to shape like a shoe. This is the top of your shoe and you're going to make sure that
the top toe piece and the bottom toe piece, the gray and the animal print, are lined up
and pin or clip them in place on the side. Just one time is fine. After they are lined up,
go ahead and top stitch across the top of your toe piece using a 1 4 inch seam allowance.
Here's what it should look like. Now we're going to attach the soles of our shoes to this top piece.
This is the lining of my shoe. I want the animal print on the inside.
Fold the top piece of your shoe in half and cut a small slit in the very front.
Do the same thing to the sole of your shoe. Now you're going to match the slit on the front
of your shoe to the slit on the inner lining sole of your shoe. Pin or clip this in place.
Then you're going to do the same exact thing with the back of your shoe.
Now you're going to pin or clip around the diameter of the sole of your shoe.
Again, this is my lining piece. This is the piece that's going to show on the inside of my shoe.
Now you're going to flip it to the front, fold down the inside of your shoe as flat as you can
make it, and then you're going to get the sole, the outer lining of your shoe, and face it with
the right side down and pin or clip it in place along with the rest of your shoe. Now you're going
to sew all the way around the bottom of your shoe but leaving about a one and a half inch gap on the
inner left side of the shoe. You're going to see this is how it looks when it's finished. Using
about a three-eighths inch seam allowance, here's the gap that we left open on the inner left of the
shoe. Now you're going to clip notches all the way around the curves of your shoes up to the
stitches, making sure not to clip the stitches, but this is how when you flip the fabric right
side out all of your seams won't pucker. Now you're going to go to the whole gap opening and flip this
shoe right side out. This can be kind of tricky to do. Just play with it until you can get it.
I suggest looking for that heel piece once you put your finger inside of the shoe and grabbing
that first and then just pull and tug until you get it completely flipped right side out.
When you do get it flipped right side out, the lining of your shoe is what you want showing,
not the outer shoe. The gray part is the lining of my shoe. Now we're going to work on closing
this hole in the lining of our shoe. Pinch your hole closed, making sure all four fabrics are
completely flush together, and then you're just going to sew all the way across. When you're
finished sewing, go ahead and clip the excess fabric and then using a zigzag stitch, go over
those stitches one more time just to prevent any fraying. Here's what it looks like when it's
finished. It gets completely hidden on the inside of the shoe and it will not irritate baby's foot.
Now you can flip your shoe right side out and smoothen out all of the inside seams of your
shoe using your finger. If your shoe has any wrinkles, go ahead and steam it and press those
wrinkles out, but otherwise you are finished with your shoe. Go ahead and repeat the same steps for
the other shoe and you are completely done. Make sure to like this video and please subscribe to
