Video Summary
AI GeneratedThis video provides practical gardening tips on how to encourage peppers to change from green to their final ripe colors (red, yellow, orange, or purple). The creator explains that ripening requires the plant to reach full maturity and focuses on redirecting the plant's energy from foliage growth to fruit development, especially for those with short growing seasons.
Are your peppers still green and you wish to change colors like these?
Red, yellow, purple, look at that, orange.
So to get your peppers to turn red and beautiful like this, I'm going to tell you real quick.
Welcome back to Green Tea Garden.
We're going to go ahead and harvest those peppers soon,
but I just wanted to say it's been a while.
We didn't do a full video. Here we are.
We have lots of videos coming up here for fall time.
We're still in summer. We're not over yet.
I believe, you know, next three weeks we're going to enter fall time.
So we do have watermelon and some squash and all cantaloupe is still growing.
All right. So long story short, how can we get red peppers like that?
You know, some people are frustrated and they're like my peppers are not changing color.
So I'm going to basically tell you what's causing this problem
and what to do, especially if you live in a short garden season.
You're going to have to do this stuff
or you're going to stuck with small peppers or even green peppers.
Listen, ripen up your peppers on the vine.
Tastes delicious and it looks beautiful.
First thing first, you have to understand how do we reach this stage?
This is the final stage in the peppers. The plant has to mature fully grown.
This is a smaller variety. There's many different type of variety depends which one you have.
The other thing is the pepper has to grow full size
and they're all going to start off with green.
So once they reach full size, that's when it's starting to change color.
Now, the problem is, is that the plant is now reaching full size
because it's grown too much side shoots
and once it's grown side shoots, it wastes a lot of time.
So we got some green ones over here.
So we're going to have to find you guys a side shoot.
So the side shoot is the same thing between the main stem and the leaves right here.
So between the main stem, our main stem is this thick main stem right here.
We got a pepper here and we got an extra growth bar.
This is your side shoots, just like a tomato plant or something,
you know, you're going to find a sucker or a side shoot.
The side shoot does produce more peppers.
If you have a long garden season, you could leave it to grow.
Now, this is another side shoot from this plant.
And if you look closer right here, we have small leaves right here.
These are side shoots.
If we leave these to grow and we do not pinch them out,
the plant's going to take more time,
use more time here than focus up here to grow the plant upward
and grow in these small peppers full or even much less ripen them.
So what do you have to do is to remove all the lower leaves and side shoots.
So like this one right here, we're not going to have time.
So I'm going to break this off right there.
Look, you got to look carefully.
You got to come back within another like four days to three, four days
and you have to keep removing them.
You can't make them grow. You grow, forget about it.
It will take up too much time.
And over here, we have a bunch of green peppers.
Let's say we're coming up to wintertime and we want these peppers to ripen up.
So the first thing we're going to do is to clear out any leaves at the bottom here.
We're going to remove anything to make sure nothing is left there
and then we're going to come up top.
We could always pinch out the flowers up top
and we could also remove this top right here, cut this off.
This is the grown part right here.
If we cut this off, pinch out the flowers,
the energy is going to flow back to the peppers,
growing them faster and ripen them up if we remove all that.
But once we remove this,
remember the plant is only going to focus on this.
The plant is not going to grow more new one.
Only do that if you're coming down to wintertime.
Other tip, what I will tell you is water it.
If you over water your water too much, it's going to slow down the ripening process.
So the whole idea is lessen up the water.
If you lessen up the water, it's going to force the plant to ripen up the peppers,
which is a little trick that a lot of people probably know about it,
but I did it multiple times, but you got to be careful though.
Now lessen up the water will be stress on the plant,
but you can't completely stop the water.
Let's say if you water Monday, say, let's say you water every day,
you are watering every day, skip like one to two days between.
If you're watering every two days, do it every three days lightly.
Another thing I'm going to tell you right now,
with lessen up the water and doing pruning, that's going to help,
but we also have to increase the calcium.
Increase the calcium because the plant is going to be on a little bit stress,
but we don't want to have blossom and rot,
meaning our pepper is going to rot on the bottom or anything like that.
So the calcium will strengthen up the plant root
and strengthen up the cell wall of the pepper.
So this way you don't have any problem in your peppers.
Final stage is to harvest your peppers when they are ripe.
So this way the plant could use energy for the smaller one.
If your peppers are like semi like this and you want to go ahead and harvest them,
you could harvest them.
They will continue to ripen up on the countertop or even a window corner.
So let's go ahead and move one of them here.
Well, I'm going to pick all of them anyway.
So beautiful. Love this.
Come on, you guys got to love this. You guys miss green tea.
I know you guys miss green tea garden. I miss you guys too.
So we got a lot of videos coming up here, but look at this.
This is so fresh and delicious and healthy and smell.
Oh my God, the smell. Am I making you guys hungry?
I hope I'm making you guys hungry in here.
Just beautiful peppers overall and these plants are very small.
I mean really small plant producing good size pepper.
Look at these peppers. They're not, you know, baby. They're actually good size.
I don't even know where I got the plants from.
All right, so we got some beautiful pepper.
Wow, that's really good. It smells really good.
Really good. My kids normally just grab them and take some bites.
It's late in the evening right now. It's a long tiring day.
Today was a epic battle day for me.
So quick rundown again. The side shoots removed from the bottom.
Remove any lower leaves from the bottom. Let the plant grow.
Let the pepper grow and that's when it's going to start changing the colors and everything like that.
Less water. Do not stop your water completely.
Just lessen up the water and do water because the plant needs water,
especially if it's hot summer. You have to water, but don't go too crazy.
I think some people just over water. If you over water too much too,
the leaves are going to turn yellow. The roots are going to start rotten.
So I don't over water. Any question and I miss,
I do apologize. And if you have an important question, comment in my new videos,
whatever the question is, I will try my best to get back.
But I know some people do answers and I appreciate anyone who answer for me.
God bless you guys. And thank you to everyone who's been following me and stay with me.
I really do appreciate you. Oh, before I go, I got big news.
Looking into a greenhouse right now. My greenhouse is falling apart.
So I might be trying to get my hand on a Vego garden greenhouse.
I see they post up some. It's beautiful. I'm going to see what discount I can get from it.
And I'm going to buy a Vego garden greenhouse and I'm going to show you guys step-by-step
and how we're going to do some fall gardening. Not sure if I'm doing a winter in here.
I mean, I'm not sure if I'm going to do the winter outside or indoor.
I always stick with it indoors because I have my indoor setup,
which I'm going to, I need another setup to build an increase my setup that I have there.
If that makes sense. I don't know. Well, I have one setup.
So I need a second setup to make a double setup.
That's what I'm trying to say. As you can see how tired I am.
So hopefully we get a good price on Vego and I'm going to go ahead and show you guys how I'm assembling it.
I'm going to show you how I'm building it up inside and how I'm going to set everything up
and we're going to grow and then even in the wintertime how it looks
and then even in the springtime how we're going to start off early in that greenhouse.
So hopefully we get that going and any question ask and let's grow together.
