I cold called an AI buyer, and she shut me down in under a minute. In this video, I test Synthesia Role-Play Sessions. The tool lets you practice cold calls, discovery calls, and manager feedback out loud with an AI avatar that pushes back like a real prospect. After each call, an AI coach scores you, breaks down what worked, and tells you what to fix. I run three unedited practice calls on camera: a fail against a critical buyer, a curious buyer, and a retry where I apply the coach's feedback and book the meeting.

I do NOT sell any products of my own. Watch out for scams.
So again, are you happy with how many clients you're currently getting or do you feel like there's some meat left on that bone?
You've used a lot of words and told me nothing. One second, what's the point?
I would like to run Google Ads for you.
So the conversation that you just saw is not real and the person that you saw me talking to was an AI avatar.
And she was specifically set up to push back on me just like a real buyer would.
And today I'm testing Roleplay Sessions, a new tool that lets you rehearse real workplace conversations out loud.
Things like cold calls, customer conversations, sales calls, and it will listen and respond and push back.
And when you're done, an AI coach will talk you through what you did well and how you can improve.
So I'm going to run some real practice sessions unedited on camera.
And so you can see exactly how this works and decide if it's useful for you.
That's going to be the video. Let's go.
So here we are at the Synthesia website at .io forward slash features.
Let's go ahead and create a demo account and then we can get started by jumping into a cold call Roleplay Session.
So once you create a free account to try it out, here's what that will look like.
Very standard interface that you'll be used to and a lot of cool stuff like generating motion graphics that we're not even going to start to get into in this video.
So let's jump right into role plays and then click on cold call right here.
Now let's go ahead with Carol. Carol is a little bit more critical, which is good.
And let's say you want to start practicing your cold call objection handling.
Well, this is exactly how you do it. And there's a two part process to this showcase.
First, I just want to talk to Carol for a few minutes so you get an idea of what this is like.
And then you'll see the coach that comes in afterward to help me then improve based on my conversation.
And let's say our loose goal for this is to book in a follow up call.
And let's say I'm selling a Google ad service to Carol's business and Carol is a VP of product.
We'll click start, click join.
Hey, is this Carol?
Yeah, this is Carol.
Yeah, hey Carol. So I actually am reaching out about your business.
I'm wondering if you are satisfied with the number of clients that you're currently getting.
That's pretty broad. What exactly are you asking about?
Yeah, so I'm just wondering just for some context here about what I do.
I've been working on Google ads for 11 years now for different businesses.
And I think there could be some mutual opportunities here.
And I'd like to see whether that could be a fit for you with a no risk Google ads trial.
So again, are you happy with how many clients you're currently getting?
Or do you feel like there's some meat left on that bone?
You've used a lot of words and told me nothing. One second, what's the point?
I would like to run Google ads for you, no risk to you.
I will fund them if they don't lose money, or excuse me, don't make money.
That sounds like every other pitch I hear. What actually makes the difference?
So it's no money down at all for you.
And I've been doing this for a very long time in your industry.
So I'm pretty good at it at this point. I have the case studies to back that up.
And it's zero risk for you. You can only make money.
Worst case to break you then if you proceed with my services.
Okay, you're repeating the headline.
How exactly would this work for a team like mine? Walk me through it, not just the tagline.
So can you tell me a little bit about your team?
I'm not getting into that on a cold call.
Okay, fair. Well, I think you got me beat here, Carol.
So maybe I should work on my objection handling.
And we can go for a round two later.
Send me something concrete, and I'll decide if it's worth a conversation.
So I ended the call there. We can see the Coke is jumping in.
But you can tell how actually helpful that is because she's pushing back, right?
She's not just rolling over and saying, I'm going to buy her thing.
She's giving very useful feedback.
So now let's talk to our Coke.
You landed at 25 out of 100, and it was marked as a fail since the pass mark is 60.
I know, that can stink, but let's focus on how to make the next call stronger.
Here's the one thing that would make the biggest difference next time.
Closing every call with a specific follow-up meeting and getting agreement on timing.
Want to go through the breakdown together and talk about where the Coke is?
This would have been so unimaginably useful to us and the work we were doing in high school
and in early college in the agency space like this.
This would have actually been a game changer.
And I'm kind of upset that we didn't have this back then.
But long story short, this is what the Coke looks like, right?
It gives you a score. We can see a score breakdown from what went well, what didn't.
And keep in mind, all of this is completely for free on a demo account.
You can do this too.
Now, if we want to go for a different persona than someone who's critical,
we can go with empathetic or curious.
But I think it is best to just kind of try these things on hard mode, so to speak.
But just to give you an idea, let's go on more of a curious cold call and see how that feels.
What can I do for you?
Yeah, so I'd like to discuss your business and how we could potentially help you out.
So I'm wondering, are you happy with the number of customers that you're currently getting?
Good question.
Honestly, between us, we're grinding, and the numbers just aren't where they need to be yet.
So now I'm curious, how could you actually help a team stuck in that spot?
Yeah, so what we do is a very specific kind of a Google ad funnel
that's specifically for your industry.
So have you explored paid advertising before?
Oh, nice. Okay, I can follow that.
We've dabbled a bit, but nothing super structured.
Walk me through how your funnel works.
What makes it different for a team like mine?
Yeah, so I'd love to do that, but it's going to take a little bit of time
for me to properly walk you through the funnel.
Otherwise, it's just not going to be very helpful for you.
So how about we jump on a 20-minute call sometime next week?
Do you have just 20 minutes for that?
Is there any open time on your calendar?
Ah, love the enthusiasm.
But tell me what this actually is first.
How does your funnel really help a team that's grinding to get its numbers?
So you can see a little bit friendlier, but also still has some backbone
and isn't just going to roll over and give you the meeting.
So cool combination.
Now let's again talk to our coach.
Hey, I'm glad to meet you.
I'm your coach for this session.
You just wrapped up that practice call.
Before we dive into your results,
let's take a moment to reflect on how it went.
What do you think went well?
I think what went well was the intro and getting to the point
where the recipient is asking me about the services.
I don't think we closed very well.
What would you do differently next time?
I think I would go more in detail and depth to the services
and then have a stronger close at the end.
Do you agree with that?
That makes sense.
We can talk more about that.
So you can see what the coach is doing is asking you how you feel.
And a lot of that muscle is just you remembering what you did well,
what you didn't well, and iterating upon that yourself,
which is part of the review process and very useful there,
I think, in addition to the actual on paper feedback given to you by the coach.
So now the actual loop that you'll go through
when you're doing this in practice is talking to your coach,
just doing this again and again and again until you get this score up,
get up there with the coach,
talking to these agents and eventually actually make the close.
So let's just try this again.
Let's actually try and close a call this time.
And let's try and iterate based on what we're doing here.
So opening by stating the name of the company, asking permission,
and then giving a specific point before requesting a meeting.
So we're going to run through this again,
and we're going to see if we can improve based on this feedback
and actually get the close, which is the whole point of this, right,
to make you a better call caller or a better salesperson.
So let's click retry instead of continue.
Marcus here.
What can I do for you?
Hey, Marcus.
This is John Law calling you from Google Ads Pro.
Is now a bad time?
Hey, John.
Good to meet you.
I've got a minute.
Yeah, I appreciate it.
So I'm just wondering, to make sure I'm not wasting your time here,
are you happy with the number of customers you're currently getting?
Sure thing.
You've definitely got a minute.
What's this about?
Yeah, so I was just wondering,
are you happy with the number of customers you're currently getting
in your business?
Oh, nice.
I love that you're asking about us.
Honestly, between us, we're grinding hard,
and the numbers aren't where they need to be yet.
So tell me, how does what you're offering actually help a team
stuck where mine is?
Yeah, well, that's actually very relevant to what I've been doing
for about 11 years now in your space,
which is using Google Ad Funnels to help you, you know,
exactly businesses like yours in your situation.
So have you tried paid advertising as a solution before?
Yeah, we've dabbled a bit, got some campaigns running,
but nothing that's really moved the needle.
So how would your approach make a difference for us
beyond what we're already doing?
Yeah, so specifically, we use what we call a booster shot,
where we have really, really good retargeting data
and retargeting funnels that we implement in your business.
And typically, we can see a really big lift
in just the first month or so
by using this kind of retargeting approach
because we're tapping into a lot of warm customers
who already know about your business.
Does that make sense?
Okay, that does make sense.
Retargeting warm folks sounds like it could give us a boost.
How big of a lift have you seen with teams like mine?
Any examples you can share?
Yeah, so I guess last month, we did about $400,000
in closed hard cash just in month one of a deal like this.
We got another business in your industry,
I think it was an 800% 8X net ROAS at the end of the day.
There's a lot more details I have there,
but we'd have to hop on a call to walk through those.
Oh, wow, those are some big numbers.
Okay, you've probably got my interest set.
So where do you think we should take this?
Yeah, so due in 20 minutes next week,
I can walk through all of this properly?
Yeah, let's absolutely do it.
My week's a bit mad, but I'll make it work.
Send something over, and we'll lock in a time that works for both of us.
Looking forward to it.
Okay, let's make it happen, Marcus.
I appreciate your time, and see you next week.
Sounds good, John.
I appreciate you reaching out.
Talk to you next week.
Take care until then.
Yep, so there we go.
We got the closed, and that is the whole point of this, right?
You improve over time, you get better,
and that's just one of the funnels that are available here.
We have cold call that we talked about.
Now, I think, honestly, discovery call, manager feedback, just as important.
Discovery call is going to be what happens typically after the cold call, right?
And the manager feedback is feedback you have to give to your employees.
So I think this is an underrated workflow as you start to have people under you,
and these start to become an actual focal matter, right?
Like serious conversations where you're navigating someone else's experience
and commitment and kind of the deeply personal subject of where a lot of people work.
With that said, the core workflow I wanted to get across here is the cold call.
That's my background.
I did this for a long time.
I know a lot of you guys watching this out there do exactly that.
You work in sales.
You work in cold calling, and this is a tool I unequivocally wish that I had back in the day,
and I didn't, but you do, and you can take advantage of this.
And that said, again, there is a lot in the platform that we're not touching on,
so creating avatars, motion graphics, AI voiceovers, avatar AI playground, etc.
But that, in a nutshell, is role play sessions and how it can make you better at cold calling.
And fundamentally what this is is improving workplace training.
There is a massive spread between watching some videos about how you should sell
or go about your cold call or screen script and then actually talking to real people.
And currently how you try to do that is role playing in real life with a mentor or a coach,
but that's not always available.
And if you have something that is customized to you that's available 24-7
and that's just better at that job of role playing and pushing back,
that's the purpose of this, and AI is the unlock for that.
Now overall, for my take on the limitations here,
I think number one, you just do have to get used to talking to an AI in a system like this
that they've been getting used to.
Number two, this is primarily built for teams and for enterprises.
That means if you're an individual or a solopreneur, probably some for you,
this is much more meant for that higher level group and training environment.
And then number three, this doesn't replace fully, I think, human coaching.
If you did have access to your sales manager 24-7 in the month-long period
where you really want to get good before you get out there and start cold calling
or doing your in-person meetings, great.
But that's very rarely the case.
And this can serve as the intermediary or the bridge there.
It can get you 90% of the way there,
but that doesn't mean you should just completely ignore the advice of the people
who in your life, in your company, in your work have been there and done that already.
There you go.
That is Roleplay Sessions, a very cool application of AI.
And I think the start of a lot of these conversational tools
starting to embed themselves in a more native enterprise and digital fashion.
Now, again, you can support the channel and try this completely for free
by going to the link that you can see on the screen
or commenting this in the comment section.
But overall, I hope you find it useful.
I appreciate you being here, and I will see you in the next one.
