How to pick a horse’s hoof (For Beginners)
4 Video Views·Nov 15, 2022
Hey guys, it's Lizzie Dock and here's Sadie.
So honestly, I hate when I do this,
but when I first recorded my
how to pick a horse's feet video,
it just didn't turn out right.
So I'm redoing the first part
and I already have the second part recorded with Tinkerbell,
but that just confuses me so bad.
I have to do things in chronological order,
but that's not happening.
So in this video, I'm going to be showing you
how to pick a horse's foot with the help of Sadie.
Start by standing beside the horse's leg perpendicularly
and rubbing your hand down their cannon bone
until they pick up their hoof.
You want to lightly squeeze the cannon bone a little bit
if they don't pick up their hoof,
but most of the horses do.
I mean, they're trained.
You now use the metal part of the hoof pick
to nicely scrape the dirt out of the horse's hoof.
After that, you can use the brush
to brush out any excess dirt.
The back feet is essentially the same exact thing,
but I just wanted to talk about
the back feet are more dangerous
since it's easier for a horse to strike you back there.
So if you haven't done this,
you should let a professional do this for you.
And also when you are doing this,
make sure to stay to the side of the horse.
You want to be safe after all.
So basically what I was showing you
is my little Tinkies feet over here
is you can't pick them the same as a big horse
because you got to get down there.
I mean, think about it.
They're half our size.
And if I come over here and pick up her leg
and bring it up to me,
that's going to hurt the poor girl, isn't it, Tinkerbell?
She got to hurt mommy and you wouldn't want to hurt her.
So you got to bend down to their level and pick their feet.
Thank you so much for watching.
And I really hope you enjoyed this video
of how to pick a horse's feet.
