AI GeneratedThis video explains the rules and technique for pivoting after a jump stop in basketball. It clarifies that players can use either foot as their pivot foot provided they land with both feet simultaneously, a concept the creator calls \"full pivotential,\" which helps in creating space and outmaneuvering defenders.
Can I pivot after a jump stop?
Hey Team Shot Science, let's clear this up once and for all because we get questions on this
all the time. Yes, you can definitely pivot with the ball after a jump stop and if you do it right
you can actually use either foot and for the purposes of this video we'll call that full
pivotential. Also, we're talking about a legitimate jump stop off the dribble, not a hop step. You
actually terminate the dribble as you're going into your jump stop. So the key to having
pivotability in either foot is to land in your jump stop with both feet simultaneously. When you
land out of phase or with one foot after the other you've established the first foot to touch the
floor as your pivot foot. If you try to pivot using the foot that landed second you just traveled
because you picked up your pivot foot and took steps. To be able to get away with full pivotential
you need to make sure that you come down into your jump stop with both feet at the same time.
When you do this you can choose to use either foot as your pivot which becomes a big deal when
you're trying to create some space from the defender or make a move near the basket. So there's
no reason for you to limit your options when you pick up the ball. Land on both feet at the same
time and make things harder on your defender. And here's a great example of what we're talking about.
Notice how he lands on both feet and could take it either way. Well that's it for today. Hope you can
add this tip into your game and really light it up. You can check out all of our tips and tutorials
right down here and you might want to check out our finishes at the rim video for some examples
of this concept right over there. And please just take a quick second to like and favorite this video
and while you're down there answer today's question. What move are you most excited to
use coming out of a solid full pivotential jump stop? Should the defense be afraid?
Let us know and we'll see you next time.
