How to Edit Like Emma Chamberlain 2020 _ Intro, Music, Effects, and More!.
So the first thing I'm going to teach you guys how to make are her thumbnails,
then we'll go into effects, sound effects, music, and then finally the fonts Emma uses.
So in order to make Emma's thumbnails, she doesn't do anything super crazy. A lot of her thumbnails
are plain, but she does have this one style of thumbnail where she has this layering technique
almost, like this thumbnail for example that I made. The first thing you're going to want to do
is go into an app, it's called Pixar, and this is how we're going to get this layering feature.
You're going to want to add two photos for the background and then one for the foreground.
The photos for the background in this case are the pictures of Emma wearing the jeans or the
outfits. So what I'm doing is I'm just going ahead and cropping them using the crop tool
and just making sure that they look the way I want them to look. I'm just going ahead and doing
this to the other one as well. Once I do this, what I'm doing is I'm just moving that foreground
image of Emma off of the screen and I'm resizing each of the images trying to see how they line up
in the background and see what I need to fix. So for instance, there was this black television that
I didn't want people to see in the thumbnail so I just cropped that out and then I just kept resizing
and playing around with it until I liked what it looked like. Next, you're going to want to go to
the fx tool and then blur the image. I think I put 12 on each of these images as the intensity of it
and this is just so that it's like harder to see and so that the foreground stands out more.
As you guys can see that there are a lot of different blur options but I think I'm just
using the basic blur option. And once I have everything blurred, I'm just playing around with
the crop again and trying to get the image to look how I want it to so that it looks nice and
clean in the background. Next, I'm clicking on this picture of Emma going to these two pieces of paper
looking buttons and then using the move forward button so it's on top. Then I'm going to the
cutout tool and clicking person and this is how we're going to get the cutout of Emma's face.
The app actually does it for you. Then what I'm doing here is I'm just trying to arrange it to
see how I best like it. As you guys can see, I keep moving around the background images just as
I test where the foreground is because Emma's face ends up covering part of it and I want to make
sure that it looks good. Then I go in with the erase tool and I'm just erasing any of this like
extra white outline that shows up. As you guys can kind of see, it looks like a little bit of a blur.
This is just so that it makes it look more like a cleaner edge because Emma does have like a super
clean edge on her thumbnails and yeah I'm not erasing too much. I accidentally erased part of
her arm here but it's just getting rid of that white part for the most part and then anything
else that doesn't look very good like that weird like semi-opaque blob. Again, I'm arranging it and
once I have it how I like it, the next thing I'm going to go ahead and do is click apply and this
is how we get this basically the image that we're going to use for the thumbnail. Next, I'm going
into this app called Fonto and this is where we're going to add the text. I'm using the font
Arial Bold Italic because that's the font Emma uses in most of her videos now and I'm just typing
in the text that I want. So she has two pieces of text, one that says before and one that says after
and I'm just roughly arranging it right now and resizing it. So she also adds this stroke around
her text so you go to style, stroke, and then you can change the color to red, alpha, and then you can
change the size of it. I'm just playing around with the size and the color of it because I wanted to
make sure that it looked like Emma's. Here you see I'm just playing around with all that and then
another thing I do is I'm just playing around with the size by using the size tool and making sure
that it just fits on the thumbnail. I also noticed that the stroke was a little too bright like the
outline was a little too bright so I went and I just changed the color a little bit so that it was
less like intense and it matched her sweater and I got the final thumbnail. In her videos Emma
Chamberlain uses a variety of different effects in order to give her videos character. Some of them
include a slow zoom, a fish eye effect, underwater effect, wavy text, jump cuts, and jump zooms in
order to do this. In the past she used a lot more effects but now she's kind of dialed it down a
little bit and I'm going to be showing you guys how to get some of these different effects.
It's important to note though that some of these you cannot do on your phone so I will not be
teaching you guys how to do them but I will be teaching you how to do them on Final Cut Pro
instead. The apps that you're going to need for this are CuteCut Pro, iMovie, and then Final Cut
Pro for these following couple of effects in this tutorial. The first effect I'm going to be teaching
you guys how to do is the slow zoom. Now you can do this in the app called CuteCut Pro or CuteCut.
CuteCut Pro costs six dollars but if you want a free version it's CuteCut but it does have a
watermark. What you're going to want to do is go into the app and add your clip then you're going
to click on that clip click on the magic wand and then click on custom transition. As you see here
I'm dragging this arrow back and forth and that will basically give you the length of the zoom
so I'm just using two fingers to zoom in and as you guys can see here when you make that those
two arrows super close together the zoom happens very quickly whereas if you drag them apart the
zoom is going to happen a lot slower like this. It's just a matter of taste and preference for
this effect. The next effect I'm going to be teaching you guys how to do is a jump cut.
It's super easy and a lot of the time people do it when there's a pause in the video so you're
going to want to find where there's a pause in speaking, go to the split clip, and then just
shorten whatever part you want. Basically all this does is it adds like a little jump in what you're
seeing and what you're hearing so that it just makes it cleaner and cuts out any boring part.
This next effect is almost like a jump zoom so what you're going to want to do is use that same
clip that you had before just split it somewhere and then I'm also going to end the split so that
the zoom happens and then it disappears so what I'm doing is I'm just finding the part where I
want to split it and going ahead and splitting the little bit of video that I want so that that is
the zoom portion. I'm clicking on that and then I'm just going to this magnifying glass and then
doing the pinch to zoom option and using my two fingers to make it bigger and as you guys can see
when it plays it's going to look like that. The next effect is a fisheye and this is one of the
effects that you can only do on Final Cut Pro unless you use like VideoStar or something but
I'm not really sure how to use VideoStar. Anyway all you're going to do is add your clip to the
library and then you're going to go to this effects tab on the right, go down to distortion
and you'll see that there's an effect for fisheye so you're just going to drag and drop that on top
of your clip and then you can actually play around with how intense you want it to be by
playing with the amount and the radius as you guys can see here this is the different ways you can
distort it. I think Emma just uses like the basic fisheye technique but you guys can see that there
are a lot of different ways to edit this. Another effect Emma uses is this underwater effect so it's
a similar process as before you're just going to want to go to that distortion category in the
effects tab and then just drop the underwater effect over it. I always change the size to be a
change the speed so that it's a lot slower so it looks a little bit more natural because it goes
very fast otherwise but this is basically like what it looks like after adjusting it and then
finally how to do her wavy text effect that she uses in her intro. First thing you're going to
want to do is add text to your movie so I'm just finding basic text I don't want it to fade in or
anything then I'm going over to the tab on the right and I'm just making it say whatever I want
it to say so in this case since I'm recreating her intro I'm actually typing Emma Chamberlain
then I'm changing the font to Arial Bold Italic so you have to change it to Arial first
and then I'm going to the uh like changing it from regular to bold italic and changing the size so
basically just editing the text if I want it then I'm dragging and dropping that underwater text
effect over just the text and then I'm changing the size to make it a lot bigger because I want
it to look a little bit like more natural and not all wavy and weird that distorts the text too much
and then I'm changing the speed to be a lot slower than uh what it's set at and then this
is basically what it looks like and this is what Emma Chamberlain's intro looks like and
how some of her text in her videos looks.
