Hey everyone, today we're going to learn the Suzette stitch
and it's what I used in my aptly named Suzette bag pattern which you can get for free on my blog
makeanddocrew.com. I love this stitch because it creates a beautiful texture
and it's really easy. It's just single and double crochets in a pattern that is
so simple you will have it memorized after one row.
So to do the Suzette stitch we need an odd number of chains. So I have chained 11
and I'm going to start working in the pattern in the second chain from the hook.
So I'm skipping this one here's my second chain and I'm going to start with a single crochet
and then in the same chain that I just worked that single crochet into I'm going to put a
double crochet. So I did that a single and a double crochet into one chain. Now I'm going to
skip the next chain and so in the next chain I'm going to do a single and a double crochet
just like I started with. There's my single and here's my double.
Now I'm going to skip the next chain which is right here and I'm going to put a single crochet
and a double crochet
into that same stitch.
I'm going to skip the next chain I'm going to put a single crochet
and a double crochet into the next stitch.
Again skip the next chain and I'm going to do a single crochet and a double crochet in the same
stitch. Now the only time you break this pattern is at the very last stitch of each row and in the
a chain it's the last stitch and I'm going to put just one single crochet
and then I'm going to chain one. You can chain yours at the beginning at the end of this row
or at the beginning of the next row it doesn't matter as long as you're consistent. So now I'm
going to turn it around and this is the single crochet that I finished with here and the thing
to know about this pattern is that every time there's a single crochet from the previous row
you are going to put a single and a double crochet in it. So there's my single crochet
I'm going to do a single crochet and double crochet
and then I'm going to skip the next stitch which was my double crochet from the previous round
I'm going to skip that one and in the next single crochet which is right here
I'm going to do a single and a double crochet
I'm going to skip the next stitch and do a single
and a double
I'm going to skip the next stitch and this is going to be my
single crochet I'm working into. I'm going to do a single
and a double
Now the way that I can tell which stitch I'm supposed to work into if I get a little bit lost
is I can always flip my work around and look at which was the single crochet in the previous row
so here I can tell this is a single crochet because it's a little bit shorter
this is a double crochet because it looks like two stacked on top of each other
so if I'm disoriented I can always flip it around and look and know that I want to do
all my stitches into single crochets so when I'm flipped around like this
I know that what was closest was a double crochet so this is going to be my single crochet
and you can kind of tell that from the back even the single crochet looks a little bit shorter
and the double crochet the top loop is a little bit wider so I can even recognize from the back
that this is the single crochet I want to work in so since it's a single crochet I'm going to put
one single crochet in it and one double crochet and then we've made it to the end of the row
so you know what that means we're going to do one single crochet in the last stitch and I
find these ends to be a little bit of a booger at first when I'm getting them set up
so there's my single crochet to end with
I'm going to chain
and then because this is a single crochet I'm going to start the row with a single and then a double
then I'm going to skip the next stitch I can tell it's a double crochet
and in the next stitch I'm going to do a single crochet
and then a double crochet
and then skip the next stitch and I'm going to do a single and a double
again skip this stitch and a single
and a double
again I'm going to do a single and a double
and then I'm at the last stitch of the row so I'm going to put one single crochet in the end
and then I'm ready to flip it around
so there you have it if you continue like that you will end up with this again you can get this
pattern on my blog makeanddocrew.com along with a bunch of other free patterns hope you enjoy it
and happy crocheting
