Hi everyone, in today's video we are going to be talking
about how to become more consistent,
aka how to make success automatic.
Now, I strongly believe that this being consistent
is a question of behavior management,
and I want you guys to remember that you
are the CEO of your life, and you can promote,
demote, or fire any behavior, emotion, or thought
that you find unfitting with your company's goal,
philosophy, or where you want to be in the future.
So, with that in mind, I just want to share with you
five ways that you can become more consistent,
whether it be at school, at work, or in your everyday life.
Number one, repetition, the habit of successful people.
Now, has this ever happened to you that in the first week,
or let's say in the first two weeks of school,
you're on track with that syllabus, you do your homework,
you review your notes every single day,
and then throughout the semester,
it kind of starts to dwindle, and you're like,
and you just lose motivation, and you just don't feel like it
and you get caught up in the work,
and then you end up binge studying for that midterm.
In order for you to make a behavior consistent
and do it over and over again,
you need to integrate it into your routine.
My advice to you is to be honest with yourself
when you want to plan a certain behavior
and when you want to be more consistent.
If you know that you're not a morning person
and you give yourself a goal
to wake up every morning at seven,
well, you're gonna do well for the first two weeks,
but after a while, your pattern of waking up at eight,
which is not that bad, falls in,
you're gonna be less likely to do that desired behavior.
So what I'm trying to say is my first tip
is observe your actual routine,
not your ideal routine,
and then find ways how you can integrate
the behavior you want in that actual routine.
Number two, motivation as a matter of choice.
Now, I hear a lot of people keep telling me,
Anna, I'm not motivated to study,
I'm not motivated to get up,
I'm not motivated to do this and that.
You have a choice.
It's a question of choice,
because we all know what we have to do,
what we should do, and what we're actually gonna do.
So technically, the choices are in front of you.
What motivated people have is the ability
to push beyond their comfort.
When you are faced with two choices,
either do your homework or do not do your homework,
it is up to you to decide.
I know one's more comfortable not doing your homework
and looking on YouTube.
Promise me you'll go to work after you watch this video,
because that's what I'm trying to preach here.
I want you guys to understand that motivation is a choice.
You choose to be motivated.
You can get inspired to try to boost that motivation up,
but at the end of the day, it is your choice.
You choose what you want to do.
You choose if today you are gonna be
a step closer to your goal or a step behind.
Number three, keep track until you are on track.
Find a way that you know will motivate you.
So if you don't like agendas, don't use an agenda.
Use a bullet journal, or hey, use a post-it note
and just jot down everything you have to do
during the day and stick it to the mirror.
When you wake up, you see it, it's gonna trigger you
that you have to do this, this, and this,
and you're more likely to do it.
Now, I'm not saying that you have to keep
a bullet journal or an agenda or keep lists
for the rest of your life, but definitely in the beginning,
when forming a habit is hard because you have to push
through that zone of laziness and unmotivational,
I wanna pick the other option because it's easier phase,
when you're in that phase, seeing a list kinda forces you
to have physical evidence that these things need to be done
and you should be doing them.
So it's an extra push, so why not do it?
Number four, the power of social accountability.
We like impressing people.
We like to show people that we're good.
We like to show the good side of us.
So if you tell, bleh, that was not the good side of me.
That's more like it.
Get other people involved.
Tell other people your goals.
Tell other people what you want to do.
Tell your parents, tell your friends.
Make it loud and proud because if you're,
I don't wanna say this, but if your reputation is at stake,
you're more likely to do it.
Last point I wanna make is the fail principle.
I call it that because I wanted to dissect the word fail
and make it positive, so put a positive spin on it.
So when you think of fail, don't think of it as like,
you're a failure, it was horrible,
you're a month of nothing, and blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
Think of it as fail, assess, internalize, and learn.
There ain't nothing negative in there,
except maybe the fail point if you see it that way,
but I promise you, failure is a beautiful thing.
However, the way failure generally works
when you're trying to be consistent
and you wanna integrate some behavior in your routine,
or let's say you wanna quit smoking.
You're good for like four days, and then you know what?
Ah, you can't do it anymore.
You take a cigarette and you're like,
my whole goal is ruined, my whole plan is ruined.
I'm gonna smoke the whole pack.
That's what people usually do,
is they see one small hiccup on their road to success
as a complete destruction of like,
not with 1,000 men, can you do this?
This is how people think.
I'm here to tell you that if you have a hiccup, keep going.
Don't like, fail once, give up forever type of thing.
Don't do that.
So just think of it as a little, little like,
whoop, oh, sorry guys, I stumbled there.
Just think of it that way.
When you fail, when you don't do the desired behavior,
keep going, it's okay.
Pick yourself up, don't worry about it.
Don't punish yourself, don't reward yourself,
don't give in, and don't give up.
So with that being said,
I really hope you enjoyed this video.
