How Jamie Miller Made 'Babydoll' the Viral Hit of the Year! | Capital
Oct 21, 2026
Hi, my name's Jamie. I'm from Wales.
I'm from Wales.
Baby Doll.
I feel weird hearing it.
Like, honestly, the first time I got sent all the messages,
I was bawling in my bedroom.
It's 12 years in the making.
You did the voice, you've done loads of things.
I've got to be cheeky as well.
Do you reckon you might get a little cameoing off campus too?
Ah, listen.
His song Baby Doll is arguably one
of the biggest songs in the world right now.
Let's give a proper Capital Breakfast welcome to Jamie Bell.
What's going on, man?
It's so nice to finally meet you.
we know you're a big fan of the show
this is mental man i've like looked up to like this radio
station and like see you guys all the time interviewing
my favorite people so this is such
a such an honor for me to be honest what is it about
this because you're a big pop star now i've
been doing music for a long time
and i've made a fan base over the past nine years but like it's
like everywhere i go now like i was just in new york a few days ago
and walking through times
square and it was nuts
so i i think it's just i'm trying to process in real time because i
I still just see myself as like a kid trying
to trying to make it you know I hear you so it's the
reaction to yourself and when you see your fans
and that and they're all around you and I have
such bad imposter syndrome okay yeah it's just hard
to process it's like everything that I've
ever dreamed about since I was a kid happening
to me within the span of 8 to 12 weeks I see what
you mean so then when you hear the song on this show
and you hear it on Capitol, yeah it all becomes
real yeah dude absolutely yeah do you know what
though it's good especially you know we're on the
school run right now it's good for kids to hear
this because for people that are just seeing your
name now because you are a fairly new artist
to most people yeah it seems like an overnight
success comes straight off the bat here's
a number one bosh you're everywhere yeah but the truth is you
said this is it's 12 years in the making it's hustling you did
the voice you've done loads of
things along the way so now for you i feel like it's great
that you're getting this success now
with a little bit hindsight
a little bit appreciation there total appreciation i also
just feel like it's so hard to like cut through
so to cut through in a place like 2026 is pretty
special yeah this is your year next year is going
to be even bigger oh man we're going to be
there all the way should we make a deal we'll talk about
this once on this show and then we'll talk
about it never again yeah okay do you know what i
mean otherwise it's always going to be like you
were on the voice back in the day yeah whereas actually
as shani says it was part of your journey yeah
we've got a little clip of you on it do you want
to hear it oh no go on you can do it okay so this
back in 2017 and you
came third on the
voice i um it was a it
was a beautiful
experience yeah
it was like an amazing stepping stone
and i learned a lot through that it was like my first
time really singing on stage in front of people
and yeah it was wicked i loved it and jennifer
Hudson was your mentor at the time, has she reached out
to you since Baby Doll was released? She's like
kept in touch with me since The Voice, she's like such
a beautiful human, like she's like been a
a mentor throughout like my career
and telling me what not to do and what to do and she's just
incredible. I um, is there one bit of advice
that sticks in your brain? She actually told me like
all these years ago, uh, if you don't believe
in yourself no one's going to believe in you
and I feel like I've actually took that throughout every stage
of like these past nine years like
um, but I've like really applied it this year
so good, it's really cool and again it goes back to
that thing of you can do something as big
as The Voice, do a performance as incredible like that
it doesn't always just happen overnight, yeah you've had obviously
this last 12 months it's
just been wild, but was there a moment
in particular where you felt things had changed
was it something to do with the Kardashians using
your song or something? Did that happen
that happened nine years ago, right
so that was like my, that was my start, I feel like that this
year though opening up for the Jonas Brothers playing
my first arena going out to 20,000 people
and hearing 20,000 people singing Baby Doll
was insane, that's cool um this is happening within
the span of eight weeks
so I'm just trying to catch up to it all, yeah it's a lot and it's the
off campus uh hasn't that helped it as well
so tell us about that Antonio yeah he's one of my
best friends he's absolutely incredible um yeah he
his fan base is absolutely nuts so it's definitely
took the song to a whole new level like that show
is huge especially in America but yeah he's just
like an amazing dude and i got to bring him out
on the Jonas Brothers shows and just to see his
impact is like absolutely wild like he is so big he's having his moment
and as he's having his
moment like he's bringing me up with him
so i just feel i don't know everyone's so kind and like
seeing the baby doll challenge go online
as well i've never really seen people rally around an
artist like this before
you know what i mean it's like it's weird like yeah you've got so much
support and as i say like i feel like we're behind you now we need
to take you out for a night out
a few beers and stuff like that.
a few beers, let's go.
shall we do that?
shall we go and ruin him?
Yes, absolutely.
wait, and i've got to be cheeky as well.
Do you reckon you might get
a little cameoing off campus too?
yeah listen, the conversation is
being had right now.
Oh!
That's good.
he's got a little exclusive baby.
I think, genuinely,
some of our listeners
will be shocked
even just to hear your accent
because we know that you're Welsh.
When I first, yeah,
I used to,
hi, my name's Jamie,
I'm from Wales.
I'm from Wales.
I've lived in America for
for nine years,
so it's a little bit
all over the shop.
Well, but this is
what always happens.
Same with Harry Styles.
You know, we chat to him
and there's a bit of
New Zealand in there
sometimes, a bit of Aussie.
It's crazy how, like,
everything changes, but yeah.
I feel like I'm in a fever dream.
I'm not going to lie.
I watch you guys all the time.
This is crazy.
Likewise.
And you haven't been back
to the UK in a while, have you?
Last time I was back
was Christmas.
Oh, wow.
I come back once a year
to see my family, so.
How do the nights out compare?
I've not done too many nights
out in LA.
What's better?
Are we talking LA
or Cardiff?
Oh man,
I'm going to have to say Cardiff.
Yeah.
No, I'm joking.
I feel like,
I feel like
it's just very different worlds
to be honest.
When I first moved to Los Angeles,
I was,
it was like a massive,
massive culture shock.
But now I've gotten used to it,
but I definitely miss home.
Like just even landing
and coming here.
I used to live in Canary Wharf.
It just feels so nice
to be back to be honest.
What's that in Outburg
like in LA?
Is it as good as,
yeah,
is it as good as everyone makes it out?
I really want to try one.
Yeah,
it's great.
Is it?
I love it.
No, I feel like I feel like British food is better than America.
Sorry America, but there's a fast food chain
in America called In-N-Out Burger
You're obsessed with it, I know, doesn't shut up about it.
And I'm like it is just like have you been oh, yeah
It's like a Five Guys or something it is it looks well better well
Because it looks like it's well better.
Well better.
Our accents sound a bit weird now.
It looks well better.
All right, so does that mean you'll
be getting down to Chippy Lane then in Cardiff?
Oh, mate, I wish I could go back, but I love Chippy Lane.
Cheeky Nando's, I can't wait to go to Greg's.
I just said to my team, my manager, I'm like,
I'm taking them to Greg's right after this.
Yes, yes, get straight on those pasties, my friend.
Jamie, thanks so much for coming in this morning.
Thanks for having me, man.
It's great to meet you.
We love playing your song on the show.
Give it up, guys.
First time he's on Capital Breakfast for Jamie Miller!
