The San Francisco Giants entire offseason plan has been fully revealed. Obviously there is one
extremely weak group on this roster throughout 2026 and Buster Posey has already come out and
said how he's going to combat that this offseason. We're going to break down later supports and
everything involving the San Francisco Giants offseason here on SF Giants Digest. If you're
new here welcome to the channel I am your host Michael Monreal and if you've been here before
welcome back to SF Giants Digest. We are so so glad you found your way back to the channel. Now
go down in the comment section let me know one free agent or trade target you want to see wearing
the orange and black in 2027. Obviously I have my ideas but I want to hear what you guys have to say
down in the comment section below. Also if you haven't yet make sure to go down below

video go down below hit those buttons that'd be much appreciated by myself and everyone here at
Digest Media. Now getting right into today's video I'm sure you could guess what we're talking about
based on this being the weakest group on the Giants by a pretty wide margin. I know starting
pitching wasn't necessarily great this year or I guess you could say wasn't very reliable but the
bullpen of course we're talking about the bullpen that was by far the worst group on the Giants
throughout the entirety of the 2026 campaign and we all saw it happening. This team did nothing to
really build that group up last offseason and it led to an abysmal 2026 campaign from the back end
of that group. But the good thing is Buster Posey has already acknowledged that that was the case.
In an article with Alex Pavlovich of NBC Sports Bay Area actually I believe it was on the Giants
Talk podcast but Posey was asked about the bullpen and what the plans are. He said I think the bullpen
is where we'll start that's where we'll start our process and then the rotation will be right behind
it. You look at free agents we'll look at trades. The thing I have learned in two years is it's hard
to make trades it's hard to trade for pitching. It's extremely valuable and it's hard to get
people to give up pitching so we do the best we can there and then continue to hopefully develop
some arms. Now of course we knew that the Giants were going to look towards free agency and trades
that's how you build a team that's how you build up a roster over the course of an offseason but
saying that they'll develop some arms I don't know who they're planning on developing besides some of
their top prospects that are rising the ranks. Of course Miguel Mendez, Henry LaLanne are newer
faces to the organization that are going to be on the 40 man and then you talk about a Jacob
Bresnahan who ended the year in AA. You talk about some of those names even a Cesar Perdomo, a Tugboat
Wilkinson. Some of the names we saw debut this season. Are those names really good enough or
going to be good enough by the time the Giants need them to to be in your rotation this season?
It's a real question mark. Now I love Jacob Bresnahan and his future but can he be a contributor
for the Giants rotation in 2027? Of course not. So then we are going to be strictly looking at you
even before December 1st because of the lockout to really build up these groups and we are going
to talk about specifically the bullpen in today's video. Now I don't think I have to go too in depth
because I'm sure all of you know how bad the bullpen was in 2026 but by ERA they actually
weren't you know awful compared to the rest of the league. You look at the A's they're bullpen
out of 5-4-3 ERA. The Giants finished with the 12th worst ERA in baseball in terms of their bullpen
with a 4-1-4. They also struck out only 7.5 hitters per nine which in today's game where
relievers are supposed to be you know throwing 100 just stuff out of the you know what. You
want to see a lot more strikeouts from your bullpen. 4.2 walks per night also wasn't a great
number. It just wasn't a good season whatsoever from this Giants bullpen. Now one thing that also
concerns me with this group is they accumulated just 0.4 fangraft wins above replacement. So
basically they brought less than half a win of value towards the Giants throughout the course
of the 2026 season which is just unacceptable. Of course you see the Nationals, the Royals,
some of these bad teams in this grouping as well and these are teams that just had zero value from
their bullpen but the Giants right there towards the bottom with the 5th worst in all of Major
League Baseball. They didn't get a lot of saves. They didn't get a lot of high leverage outs and
pretty sure in leverage this season in high leverage the Giants ERA was over 10. So that's
something that absolutely needs to drop in 2027 and it looks like Buster Posey understands that
which is a good thing to hear. Now of course Buster Posey is the one to blame for this bullpen
fail because heading into the season he seemed fairly confident that the minor league signings
and these guys coming off of injury like Sam Hendricks and Jason Foley. He seemed pretty
confident these guys are going to bounce back and the Gents are going to have a decent enough
bullpen. Now myself, you guys, every fan of the Giants organization knew this was the writing was
on the wall. This group was not going to be good. This bullpen was not good enough for the Giants to
be anywhere near contention and we saw that pretty immediately through the start of the year. That's
why this season was virtually over in April or May and we knew very early on that this was not
a playoff team because you look at the Padres who were in the division. Their record was better than
the Giants even though their offense was awful and part of that was because they had such a good
bullpen. So bullpens make a really big difference and Buster Posey should know that first hand. He
was the guy behind the plate for the core four and when the Giants won those three World Series
in five years. Now I want to transfer over and look into some of the free agent options that
are at the top of the market this season. Now these are the top 10 relievers that are going
to be free agents or could be free agents I guess you could say with the most war in 2026. Now Garrett
Whitlock I'm going to point out early he's probably not going to be a free agent because the Boston
Red Sox have that club option which they are absolutely going to pick up which he's been really
good but outside of that every name in these top 10 could 100% be Giants for being honest just
depends how much money they'd like to spend. Now Adrian Morehone is going to get a bag. I don't
know how much I love bringing him and yes he throws 100 he has been dominant but typically with
relievers who have a higher workload which I believe he's over 80 innings this year who throw hard we
usually see a pretty big dip in production the next season it's a pretty big trend but could be
wrong he's been one of the best relievers in baseball over the past few years and 2.8 wins
above replacement this year is extremely good for a non-closing reliever. You also look at Michael
Sirocco who's been pretty good this year and then you look at David Bednar. Now this is a name that
I'm circling for the Giants this year not only do the Giants and Buster Posey need to sign a closer
for you know obviously the better of this team production but just in terms of good PR of making
themselves look better the Giants need to do something with that bullpen because they are so
rock bottom of Giants fans and how happy they are with what they're doing so I am looking towards
some of these names at the top of the market when typically we wouldn't just because the
Giants need some good PR after the season they just put together. You also look at Gregory Soto
he's a really intriguing southpaw that the Giants could look towards of adding this offseason. Alex
Vesia is the name I would have loved to see in the Giants bullpen now obviously he's been a Dodger
his entire career so that'd be a very intriguing aspect of that potential signing would he even
want to come to the Giants after the seasons they've put together and seeing the Dodgers
just dominate them year after year I'm not sure but if the Giants throw enough money at them
you never really know. Raiso Aglestis is his name I also love I see him going back to the
Braves though so there's some really intriguing names in this grouping that I wouldn't be
surprised if they ended up San Francisco Giants it really just depends how much Buster Posey,
Zach Minassian and company are really willing to spend on that group. Now I did want to throw out
a really you know out of left field name that could be a Giant next year and I'm looking at
Josh Hader of the Houston Astros now I know he's one of the best relievers in baseball he's been
one of the best closers in baseball pretty perennially for the last what five six seven
years he's been dominant and we'll get into his numbers in a second but the Astros just looked
completely overmatched they did not look like a good team in the playoffs got absolutely
mollywhopped by the Chicago White Sox. I wonder if you know they want to cut some payroll and
they want to you know switch things up in Houston it's time to get some fresh energy they need to
change things around. Could Josh Hader be available? Now his contract isn't the most
appealing we'll get into it right now he's basically owed right around 19 million dollars
a year through the next two seasons so 2027 and 2028 you would be getting him and then he's a
free agent in 2029. Now the one thing that's a little concerning is with a lockout we don't
necessarily know how much of a season we're getting next year so you could be paying him 19 million
for two months of baseball but either way you are adding a surefire closer to the back end of your
bullpen and I know 19 million sounds like a ton for a reliever but when you look at what you know
closers and especially dominant closers are signing for free agency in today's game you
wouldn't necessarily be extremely upset about a 19 million dollar AAV for a closer as dominant
as Josh Hader. Now we can get into his numbers really quickly but this past season he posted a
101 ERA in 44 and two-thirds innings now he wasn't necessarily extremely available he did deal with
some injuries and stuff but when he was on the mound he was utterly dominant and him not throwing
a ton of innings this year is actually a good sign for the Giants if they were to add him
throughout the offseason so a 101 ERA in 44 and two-thirds innings this past year 1.9 F4
in just 44 innings is extremely extremely impressive struck out 11 guys per nine walked
only three that was just really good numbers all across the board and this is exactly the type of
arm the Giants need to add to their bullpen if they want to find success in 2027 which I know
sounds like a stretch but at the postseason press conference Buster Posey, Tony Vitello, Zach
Manossian they all said the same thing they do think the Giants can contend in 2027 now of course
they could just be saving face and next year could be a development year and they're just not going
to say that but if they are serious I would love to see them be aggressive use these prospects that
you have as a top five farm system in the game and go get a dominant closer in Josh Hader that
would be awesome I would love it let me know your thoughts on that down in the comment section below
I'm not sure how likely it is but if he's available there was rumors about him being available at this
year's trade deadline if that is real go well get yourself a surefire closer and fans will absolutely
love that let me know your thoughts on that you know entire conversation what Buster Posey needs
to do this offseason what you want to see him do this offseason for the bullpen for the rotation
everything involved I want to hear your guys's thoughts down in the comment section below
as always thank you so much for watching and we will see you next time
