FIRST TIME IN MEXICO CITY Why you have to visit CDMX! 🇲🇽💖
It should be horizontal.
We're gonna go to McDonald's.
We're gonna refer to ourselves in third person.
So what's the first thing?
What's the second thing?
My face looks fat. Look at this.
It's so nice.
This is better than where we live.
Going out for the first time.
Just gonna explore this neighborhood.
This is not where we were.
What is this? This is the...
Beef.
And we got pork.
And an egg.
Okay. Commence.
Vacation Brian.
Reporting in.
We're at some cafe.
It's like a chocolate shop.
It's a picture.
Or a video.
Could be a video.
Could be a picture.
So day 3 of our Mexico trip.
She flipped out.
I came to the rescue.
What more can I say?
We're going to this
Tuesday market.
Just trying to remember
what the market is called.
What Tuesday is in Spanish.
Okay. We're going to Tuesday market.
And it's just food?
Or...
Oh dude. It's so much more than food.
So they have like fruits.
And they cut it into like...
They cut it into like unique shapes.
So that it's all like...
Like a penis?
You're not talking about that penis food
we saw yesterday?
Okay. We'll see you at the market.
Is this papaya?
It's hefty.
Okay. This is our little haul
from the market. We're going to make some guacamole.
So we got
avocados here. Tomato.
Onions. Lime.
And then we got some fruits.
Here is the watermelon.
And this pomegranate.
And then we also got a dessert.
This is like some kind of...
It tastes like rice.
Paper...
Rice crackers? But it has Nutella
inside. And we got chips
to go with our guac. And this is
for dinner.
Let me show you.
We got this beautiful paella.
They gave us a sample to try
at the market and it was
delicious!
And then what I want to get
is this
cracker.
Flying gummy flowers!
And then we got McDonald's.
MM for
Meskin McDonald's.
Tastes just like American sausage.
Very sauce heavy.
Sauce heavy?
A lot more sauce than Canadian.
But still it's delicious.
The right way to eat fries
in your sauce of ice cream.
That's disgusting.
What happened to this is disgusting.
If you remember
what it looked like before,
this is what it looks like now.
You just eat the whole thing.
Gone!
We are hot sauce shopping
right now. So we can add it
to our paella for dinner.
But we're torn because
we don't understand what anything means.
Which one? This one.
This one is extra spicy?
This one is extra picante.
Extra with three X's.
This is a good one.
How do you know now? You feel it?
It speaks to me.
Basically we're going to get this one because
we asked someone and they recommended
to us that it's not too spicy.
Look it says for family.
See that?
Watch this one.
It does say that.
I think they just talk about size.
Ah, family size.
Now we're going to go find something sweet.
Like a sweet snack for me.
Gross.
That's the person who ate my ice cream.
Should we get eggs?
I'm not interested in eggs.
Where are the snacks?
I don't know what to get.
I'm going to grab one of these.
It's two for thirty.
I'm going to grab two of these.
Oh no, I'm not.
I'm going to grab Oreo cream.
Chocolate Hershey bar.
A little grocery haul for tonight.
We got some bottled water.
Which I really hate
using plastic bottles but we can't drink
the tap water here. We have to
drink this bottled water
because there's no kettle here.
Either.
And then we got
some yogurt. We tried
this the first night we were
here and it actually was very yummy.
It's a bottled yogurt but
it tastes really thick.
Almost like a Greek yogurt.
So we got a few of those and then we got some
baguette chips
for our guacamole.
And then we got something to satisfy
my sweet tooth.
And then this hot sauce.
And last but not least
we got this
huge bottle of tequila.
And this was only
two hundred
sixty pesos.
So it's like about fourteen, fifteen
dollars for what would have otherwise
been like double the price in Canada.
This is the paella we got from the market
in the morning. We just kept it in the fridge for the day.
It smells so good.
Oh wow, a dangerous amount of
hot sauce.
Oh yeah, it's got a kick.
Oh yeah.
I feel that kick for sure.
Okay.
That dinner was really good.
But it was really spicy because I put too much
hot sauce on. So I'm going to try this
biscuit thing.
It looks like this.
It's got this like rice paper
situation and then
on the other side it has chocolate and I think
coconut.
Okay, we're just going to have some simple breakfast
today with the groceries we bought
and then the plan
is to go see the castle
today. We actually live
quite close to the castle. You can see
it from our windows
just right over there.
So we might just walk there.
My sunflower
is still alive and well.
There's another one.
So nice.
It's beautiful. Gotta bring a door knob.
So you can access it.
This weirdo is walking on white tiles
only.
Goes to Mexico.
Eats Korean food.
It looks pretty authentic.
It looks decent. I can't wait to
dig in.
So good.
I never even
get this in Canada.
Is it called Sikhye?
It's like a rice drink.
It is a rice drink.
It's very cold.
After lunch, we went around the
Reforma and Roma area to do some
vintage shopping. Window shopping.
Look at this sunset
from our apartment.
It's like I think
we live here.
You look very pink. Having a makeover.
And later that night, we went to some local parties.
Hello. We're at the
Casa what? Casa
Ghiyardi.
It's one of the really
famous
estates that this
Mexican architect
built. What would you call that
blue? Periwinkle
blue? Oh, yeah.
I know my colors.
We booked a tour at
Casa Ghiyardi which was the
last house Louis Barragan built.
This is probably one of the places
that a lot of people would visit when they go to
Mexico City. I found it
through a video on Nowness
which I'll link in the description.
Because someone currently lives at the house,
they do charge a photography
fee if you wanted to photograph the interior.
It's about 500
Mexican pesos so that's
35 Canadian. This was also the
day we had to move Airbnbs but
before we did that, we had to stop by
this taqueria near our first Airbnb
that actually appeared on Taco
Chronicles on Netflix. The owner was super
friendly and gave us very generous portions
of food. The tacos were freaking delicious.
The next day, we took a bus
out of the city to see the Teotihuacan
Pyramids.
Transportation was actually very easy.
We took an Uber to the bus terminal
and there you can buy round-trip
tickets to the pyramids and back.
We're here.
Okay, we can walk
this way more.
Lift your arm up higher.
Extend it. You should do this.
Yeah.
We're going there.
And we've gone
this far.
We're here.
We're going to climb this. Base camp
to vlog. Base camp to vlog. We have reached
base camp. Over.
Okay, we're as
ready as we'll ever be so let's go!
Status report.
We're like halfway.
Halfway done?
We've discovered
the mummy. It's place of
residence.
Another one.
Finally.
Naruto ramen.
Does it live up to its name?
It looks like the Naruto
because of the circle thing.
The next day.
It's Saturday.
It's already like 1pm and we're getting breakfast.
We're at this place called Market.
It's really cute.
They've got like an outdoor
patio situation.
I got that thing
that you said was a traditional Mexican breakfast.
And I got something else which I will
just put here.
I don't remember the name.
But I think I ordered something
vegetarian by accident.
Even though I wanted chicken.
There's chicken in mine.
Okay, what are we doing?
Dude, we're flying through Mexico City.
With a bird!
We're riding these scooters.
I have safely completed
one scooter ride.
I gotta say that was kind of
stressful.
I felt like I was going to die in the middle of
traffic. What did you think?
Dude, it was so fun except she's just really slow.
I was scared!
Refer to the video of her riding by.
That is 1 tenth the speed that she...
Would recommend
if you're a coordinated person
unlike me.
Now we're at this market.
It's like a Saturday vintage market.
It's in
Jardin Ignatiel.
Or something like that.
I'll show you around.
Hey, freeze!
Brian just made
the purchase of his life.
C3PO, beautiful.
Actually beautiful.
I just ordered
a chamoyada
with mango. To be honest, I'm not sure
what I ordered, but here we go!
Oh, that's really good!
It's like sour.
I think it comes
with tamarind.
This is easy.
It's a gallery.
Look at this burger.
Brian got this one, the mojito azote.
And I got the
tarong, which is
a grapefruit drink.
Wow, that's real good.
After a morning stroll around our
neighborhood, we headed to Koyukon.
Someone we met at a party a few nights ago
recommended that we have to visit
the Frida and Diego house, and they were
absolutely right. The artist couple
shared the studio space in Koyukon.
The red house belonged to Diego, where
a lot of his original art is still preserved.
And the blue one belonged to Frida.
Then we went to the nearby museum of
Al Carmen. It's inside a
beautiful monastery and a garden.
But below that, we saw
mummies.
Okay, now time
for some food. In the area, there's the
Al Carmen market, so we got some lunch
there. This was definitely more of the
higher-end market, so lunch was
a little bit more expensive than usual.
And I got to try a cocktail
at the show. Gracias!
After lunch,
we explored the Koyukon neighborhood.
This was definitely one of my favorites in the city.
It's super vibrant with cobblestone streets
and colonial architecture.
Our last stop of the day was
Yunnan University. It has one of
the biggest campuses in the world.
And we took a nice afternoon walk
before heading home for the day.
50th Uber ride.
We are about to embark on a
journey around
Lake Zochimilco.
Oh.
I'm impressed. What do you mean you're impressed?
My Spanish is, like, top-notch. Oh, dude,
my acne. We'll find out
later if we've been scammed or not.
We'll also find out later if my acne
is gone.
Acne update.
Okay, basically,
around this lake, you can
rent these, like, boats. What are these
boats called? I don't know.
Boats. And
someone
drive you around. Or what is
they steer you around? No, it's like
the Venice of Mexico.
Yes, essentially, yeah.
But it's so packed. Like, we're about
to, like, get in a
boat accident with this other boat.
Here's how this looks.
There are all these boats
waiting around.
And we're just going
around this lake for
an hour. That's the tour.
Oh, there's so much stuff.
Yup.
We went back to the Tuesday morning market
again. And this time, we're trying
something new.
I have no idea what I'm eating.
But this looks pretty good.
A
local gentleman who was sitting across from
us told me that this is called
Takoyo?
What's it called?
It's a batter
corn tortilla
thing that
is kind of shaped like an
empanada and then topped with
cactus and I have, like, a slice of meat
here and some pickled onions.
We couldn't film
inside the house, but we definitely
recommend visiting here. There's so much
history here about Frida's life and the entire
museum is painted in this vibrant cobalt
blue color.
Brian got a chicken quesadilla
and I got a...
Well, I thought I only got a
cortita, but I guess I got a cortita and
a quesadilla.
I think this is just a cheese quesadilla.
Time for the cortita.
Right after we left the market,
we walked past this other taco stand
and it smelled and looked
so good that we
just had to. So we got more tacos
and we brought it back home.
And we just added some avocado
on top there to, you know, level
it up a little bit. One was like
the stewed soft
pork and then the other one was
a intestine. This is the one
I'm eating right now. And it's so
juicy, even, like, 40 minutes
taxi ride later.
On our last full day
in the city, I went on a solo tour
to Louis Berragon's house and learned
so much about his work and his life as an
architect. And then we met up
for lunch at this Hindu temple, one of
the best Indian food I've ever had in
my life. And then we came
to this super fancy post office
in a search for postcards.
So we have arrived at
Gringotts. I'm, like, half
expecting ******* elves
or goblins
to, like, pop out and be like
what can I get you?
I'm half expecting someone in my family
left me a huge inheritance.
I need a couple gallons, you know.
And the very last stop
on our trip was the vast counsellor's library
which looks like it's straight out of a movie.
And there you have it, friends. That's 10 days
in Mexico. See you next time.
