Monday morning, the sun isn't even up yet.
Agents in jackets line up outside a house in
Washington, D.C. The house belongs to a sitting member of Congress,
Ilhan Omar. And the agents?
Not the FBI. Immigration investigators.
Well, three weeks before an election, love her or hate
her, this is a first in American history.
And first, I have a funny way of turning into habits.
Let's get into it. Here's what happened.
Omar's home was raided early Monday morning by Homeland
security investigations according to a source
who spoke to Fox News Digital several agents in HSI
jackets were seen outside her DC home in the early hours well
the Justice Department confirmed it a
spokesperson said HSI executed
a judicially authorized search warrant secured by the
department so yes that means a judge signed off what
were they looking for though well
Fox reports the case is a criminal fraud probe
into her immigration paperwork, which her late
father filed or filled out when she was a child.
Now let's pause on that for a second. A form from
the 1990s filled out by her dad.
Now this didn't come out of nowhere because in May, Vice President
J.D. Vance said the Justice Department would investigate
her and he brought up the long-running
claims that she married her brother.
Well, the claims are currently under investigation and
have never been proven in court before.
Vance didn't hedge though. He previously said in an
interview, quote, we think Ilhan Omar definitely
committed immigration fraud against the United
States of America. Then in September,
Border Czar Tom Homeman confirmed that HSI was investigating
and he didn't rule out stripping her citizenship.
Well, his line, quote, no one's above the law.
Omar fired back, of course.
She called the search an attempt to target political enemies
and weaponize federal law enforcement.
And she added, I will not be silenced.
Also, Democrats are also pointing at the calendar.
House Judiciary Democrat Jamie Raskin says
DOJ broke its own policy of avoiding overt moves
in politically sensitive cases during the 60 days before an election.
So, as of right now, there's no charges
and no arrests have been reported.
A search warrant is not a guilty verdict.
So, why is this unprecedented?
Lawmakers' homes have been searched before. Rare, but it happens.
Remember 2005? FBI agents found $90,000 in cash
in Congressman William Jefferson's freezer.
Well, cold cash, literally.
Or Senator Bob Menendez.
In June 2022, the FBI searched his home
and found gold bars worth over $100,000 and more than $480,000 in cash.
Well, you see the pattern? Bribes, cash, gold, classic corruption.
And when agents knock on a politician's door,
it seems like they usually check the freezer.
But this time, though, they went for the filing cabinets.
And we searched the record and found no case of immigration agents
raiding a sitting member of Congress over how they became a citizen,
not once in more than 230 years.
And here's the part almost nobody in Washington wants to say out loud.
if a 30-year-old former Cambodian agent to Omar's door,
whose door could be next?
All right, let's count the doors.
Pew Research says 19 members of the current Congress were
born abroad, 17 in the House and two in the Senate.
If you count lawmakers with at least
one immigrant parent and you hit at least 80, that's both parties.
Democrats like Senator
Mazie Hirono, born in Japan,
and Republicans like Congresswoman Victoria Spartz, born in Ukraine,
and Congressman Carlos Gimenez, born in Cuba.
But here's the detail that complicates the picture.
Omar said she came here as a refugee kid,
the man who filled out her paperwork was her father,
who passed away in 2020.
So the dad literally can't explain the single box he checked.
Now let's zoom out for a second,
because this raid sits inside a much bigger push.
DOJ says it has filed 122 denaturalization cases since January 2025,
and the goal is at least
250 cases by October, way above the historical average
of about 11 a year from 1990 to 2017.
And back in April,
the New York Times reported DOJ had already identified 384
foreign-born Americans whose citizenship they want to revoke.
Supporters say that is the point.
Fraud is fraud.
Equal justice means a congresswoman gets no special pass.
And if she's innocent, you know, the process will clear her.
Well, critics see a very different picture.
Think of the rule of law as a ladder.
it's supposed to hold everyone up
but in the wrong hands it becomes a battering ram and
conservatives know this feeling very well
because August 2022 if you still remember FBI agents
searched Mar-a-Lago half of the internet said
if they can do this to a former president they can do
it to anyone well same principle different house
and remember that October deadline DOJ set for
itself. We are in October right now.
Election day is three weeks away. So here's where we land.
As of yet, no charges, no verdict, just a door.
a warrant and a whole lot of questions. If Omar
broke the law, let the evidence speak in court.
And if she didn't, America just crossed the line
it cannot uncross. Keep your eyes on that door. I'll see you next time.
