Video Summary
AI GeneratedAfter a 750-mile journey from Fiji, the crew arrives in New Caledonia. The trip involves exploring the island's unique landscapes, hiking, and navigating local anchorages. While dealing with docking challenges and wildlife like sharks and jellyfish, the narrator prepares the vessel for the next major passage to Australia as the cyclone season approaches.
After sailing 750 miles from Fiji, we arrived in New Caledonia. It was an exciting passage
including a bad lightning storm near the end but we made it. Time is ticking to make it out of the
South Pacific before cyclone season but we still find some time to explore one of the lesser known
island groups, New Caledonia. Sorry for the long wait in between videos and thanks for your patience.
The first thing we did after resting up was going on one of the many amazing hikes in New Caledonia.
We really wanted to camp up here but just didn't have time before catching the next weather window.
We're up here in Mount Dore or something like that.
Awesome view up here. It's really hot but it's enough breeze to keep it cool enough and we've
already reached the summit. Heading back down to try to make the bus back by noon. We are in
Noumea, New Caledonia where we've been for the last few days resting and stocking up and exploring
the island. After coming from Fiji a few days ago that was a five day 700 mile trip but today we're
going to leave the marina and head out to a couple anchorages in the area before making the next big
passage to Australia. I've already fixed the damage that happened on the last trip so thanks
to everybody that pitched in for that. New Caledonia is actually a huge island and there's tons of
islands to explore around it. There's a lot of sharks, the most I think attacks per capita anywhere
which makes it a little bit less appealing to swim but it's a beautiful place regardless. I had a bit
of a near miss trying to leave the dock for the first time in New Caledonia. I'm not used to being
able to steer in reverse. On my last boat it was a full keel so it really would just go any direction.
I got a bit nervous about hitting the dock behind me which you can't see in the video now
so I started turning forwards into the right a little bit prematurely which caused me to get
way too close to this catamaran. It was my fault. In the future I will try to just back up more,
give myself more room and I haven't docked this boat that many times so I'm still just
getting used to it. We spent last night at this nice place called Signal Island. Crazy clear water.
Lots of jellyfish in it though so we tried swimming this morning and got stung a bit. It's a
cool little island over there with a barbecue we did last night
and we're gonna head about 30 miles to the south now to a different bay. I got a drone
from a friend to use so that's cool and it should take us about five hours roughly.
Our fishing vessel has continued its success. Got another Spanish mackerel we're dragging
behind the boat to get the blood out of but it'll be good eating tonight. We're heading to
the next island over now called Crony Bay or something or it's right next to Crony Bay.
We might go here if the anchorage looks good. If not we'll go all the way into this
really protected little area. New Caledonia is a really cool place. Most people that sail here
don't stay long because they've already spent two years in the islands but there's so much to see
and I'd like to go back someday. I've never seen a landscape quite like it. This rock is really
weird. It just pulls right off. We found our best spot yet. We were anchored out by this little
island over there but the anchorage wasn't that nice just because the wind was exposed
but this place is perfect. It's about nine feet deep, just pure sand, lovely mountains all around
and enough breeze to keep us cool so we'll spend at least one night here.
While we get the dinghy inflated and head to shore later and cook our fish.
I am Bear Grylls. We're in the wilderness of the Alaskan forest. We've just started a fire
using only our hands and this is a life and death situation out here. There's no help anywhere nearby.
We just picked up anchor at this nice little spot we spent last night at.
Had a nice little cookout on the beach. Hiked a small hill this morning that we thought was
going to be a hike but it wasn't. Now we're going to head to the lighthouse and I'll probably clean
the boat, I mean the bottom of the boat really well because there might actually finally be a
window on a about a week from now. My dad's flying in in three days.
We stopped at a little island along the way. I don't know what it was called but it was really
pretty and it's got perfect circular parts of the Caribbean island. Now we're headed to
Amity Lighthouse just over there. It's really close. One mile and we'll spend the night here.
I think there's some diving and I can use a friend's starlink to finally upload a video.
It's been a while because I can't figure out how to get mine activated again.
Anyways, we'll drop anchor shortly and see what we can see here. This place is pretty nice. The
island's a bit touristy. There are a lot of boats but the water is crystal clear. We're
gonna hop now and scrape all the little barnacle-y things off the bottom.
We are back to the Port Morzelle marina area. It's just in there. Hopefully I do a better job
docking than I did undocking. We're going to the fuel dock first and then head to the dock,
clean up, get everything ready, and edit videos for a few days. I have gotten better at docking
the boat. I just have to remember, as my dad taught me, to get the boat completely stopped
with the engine before using any lines. I can't get away with nearly as much as I could on hooligan
because the boat's so much heavier. Thanks for watching even though it was a bit of a short one.
In the next video my crew is going to be leaving the boat because they had other commitments and
my dad is joining me for the trip to Australia. I planned on posting a video about my sailing
background about a week ago but I underestimated how long that would take so I switched to this
one and that's why it took so long to post. I really appreciate you guys being patient.
I appreciate the support and I'll see you next week.
