Hi friends, this is Connie. Today we're taking the first steps to meet your new friend,
the cello. So now first, let's take it out of the case. If you have a soft case like me,
you can gently put the cello on the side like this, on this, take the cello out,
and you can grab the cello by the neck. So right here, you can grab it like this,
and then remove the case. Okay, that's the first step. Now, we want to adjust the height of the
cello. And one thing you can remember is nose to scroll. So this part is called the scroll,
and then we want it to be as tall as the nose. And how do we do that? Let's sit down,
put the cello on your lap like this, and at the end, there is a little screw right here.
You want to unscrew it and then pull it out. Just put it for a hand's length approximately.
See how tall it is. Okay, so it's still a little bit too short for me.
So I want to readjust. That is a good height. See, nose to scroll. Next, I want to tell you
about the proper sitting positions for the cello. You want to put the cello gently on the side,
very gently with the scroll facing forward. Put it beside you. And then I want you to find
something from the back called the rock stop. So this is a circular object that keeps your
cello from slipping. You're going to put the rock stop on the floor, forming an equilateral
triangle with your feet, which means that the distance between the rock stop to each of your
foot should be the same. Next, let's check our sitting postures. Make sure you're sitting at
the first half, front half of your chair, your feet flat on the ground, and sit nice and tall
with your back straight and relaxed. Next, let's take our cello and put this part, the end pin,
into the rock stop. Hmm, that doesn't look very comfortable. How do we check?
So this part, called the upper belt, will be touching your chest area. And then this part,
called the C belt, because it's shaped like a C, will be slightly above your knees. So just adjust
the distance of your end pin until you are sitting comfortably. So make sure you are not
leaning forward like this to meet your instrument. You want to sit straight,
and then let the instrument fall onto you.
And then make sure that your knees are not squeezing the cello, but just gently position
on the side, so the instrument rests comfortably between your legs. Next, I want you to turn the
just slightly to the right, and then make sure you're sitting very comfortably. And then use
your thumb to swipe across your screen. And there you go. That is how you get started with the cello.
