Hey guys! This is Pibi and Bea and welcome to our channel.
It is sunlight in Korea which is basically the lunar new year and pretty much everything is
closed because a lot of people go back home to visit their families.
So generally speaking, as a foreigner, it is difficult to celebrate Seollal on the actual day
but there are still a few things open so we are going to show you how you can celebrate Seollal
We are now at Namsan Gulhanokmal which as the name itself says is located in Namsan Tower
and it was built in 1998. And in this village there are five different premises that once
belonged to aristocrats and people from the government during the Joseon dynasty and they
they were originally located... Oh shoot! As I was saying, they were originally located in
different neighborhoods but then they moved them here and restored them.
So why don't we explore the rest of the place together?
If you guys are interested in coming here, this place is open all week except for Mondays
and it's free entrance and they do have a lot of Korean cultural activities such as
making rice cake, tea ceremony and I think folk music?
And you can also get married here.
Wedding ceremony!
And this place is located not far from Chungmuro which is walking distance to Myeongdong
and in the area there are a lot of authentic Korean restaurants
and now since it's pretty much lunchtime let's go and try to find a Korean restaurant that is open
Let's pray!
We came all the way to Myeongdong because there are no restaurants in Chungmuro
that are open
Yes and we're trying to find tteokguk
But we're really struggling
There are a few restaurants open but they don't have tteokguk
So let's see if we can find anything
No!
No tteok mandu guk!
No, okay next!
Let's try again somewhere else
I'm so desperate
No, I'm hungry
We found it! Yay!
She's so dancing
We finally found a restaurant that has tteokguk and we had to get it
because it is typically eaten on the first day of the year
And apparently it brings good luck
We ordered tteok mandu guk, porridge
Like mushroom soup
And japchae, this is the vegetable version and we've got lots of cute sign dishes
If you have rice wine, you gotta make sure to shake it
Shake it, shake it
Maybe not, maybe not shake it
You're supposed to shake it
I'm so confused
That was a close one
Happy Lunar New Year!
They can hear us
My first tteokguk this year
So hot and warm
Dumpling, I think the kimchi one
Mandu, yay!
Japchae time now
I'm a mess, stop, I cannot do it
Good?
We love BTS but
We cannot record copyrights
Compared to how I celebrate Chinese New Year in the UK
The way I celebrate Lunar New Year in Korea is very different
Especially coming with the food
Before I was really interrupted by BTS
I would have, like I said, food
Tteokguk, japchae, a variety of jams, the small ones
And then after, I'm trying to finish
And then after lunch, we would have like an activity
Like yunori or go stop
What about you, Kaya?
I don't celebrate it
Yeah, we beat BTS
Look at this
Look at this, mom
Bad boy look
You like your bad boys too
We're saying how Jungkook looks so like hotter
With his tattoos and piercings
I like Jin the best
I like Suga
I always have
These are also really hot
These, looks good now
As you can see, everything is closed
Either because of Seollal or because of Covid
So depressing
We couldn't have a vlog and not include coming to a cafe
And we came to Billy Angel which is a chain
And they have really nice cakes
Very lovely desserts
Yes, and it's perfect because there's hardly anyone inside
Which is great
Perfect for filming
And my friends, they keep asking me if I had tteokguk today
So cute
And we ordered jamong cake which is grapefruit
This one's really nice
I've had it before so I wanted Kaya to try it
I'm excited
And then just some vanilla latte and caramel macchiato
I don't really like grapefruit
Me too
But this is really nice
Right?
It's so good
It's so fresh and tangy
Like it's not overpowering
It's really good
This is actually our first time celebrating Seollal outside
And we do and don't recommend it
We do recommend it if you enjoy culture
So if you want to go to policies
There are not many people around which is great
And also if you want to go to chain cafes
They're pretty much all empty
So you can enjoy a very calm afternoon or evening there
But if you want more like Korean food
Authentic Korean food
You'll be very disappointed
Yeah, you'll find a hard time finding it
Maybe like an hour or two
Like us
So it really depends on what you want to do
This is the end of the vlog
And we are sorry that this video may not be as entertaining
As our previous ones
Yes, but we were kind of sick
And also the place that we originally planned to go to is closed today
So we're really sorry
But next week we'll try and bring you a more exciting vlog
And we still hope that you enjoy today's video regardless
And we will see you next week
And also
Happy Lunar New Year!
Bye!
