And sing again she did.
Celine Dion officially opened her Paris residency tonight
to around 45,000 fans at the plenitude arena
who all welcomed the Canadian singer's comeback with resounding applause.
As she took to the stage, the star was moved to tears
saying that she promised herself she wouldn't cry.
The Queen has returned.
The Queen has returned. She's back. It's amazing.
It was a spiritual show
She returns to the same city where she last performed
from atop the Eiffel Tower
during the opening ceremony for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
In 2022, Dion announced that she'd been diagnosed with stiff person syndrome
and cancelled all of her scheduled shows.
It was something that was very scary for me
because I didn't know what was going on.
In a profile with Harper's Bazaar, she disclosed that she'd been suffering
from symptoms of this rare neurological autoimmune disorder for 17 years.
Fans were thrilled to see the star back on stage.
She's wonderful and she's always been in my life
as long as I've been like...
When I was five years old, I was singing her songs
so it's been with me all my life.
Including some Canadians who brought this symbol from home.
The start of the show was delayed around 45 minutes
which is unusual for Celine Dion.
But the fans kept up their energy for most of that time
breaking into spontaneous applause and even the wave.
And the party did not stop there.
Fans continued to sing outside of the venue
for quite a while after the show finished
and they're not done.
Celine Dion's Paris residency runs from September 12th, 2026
to May 29th, 2027.
