St. Louis Blues trade rumors are continuing
to escalate this time around one very interesting
player in particular as an NHL insider has revealed he's
been linked to multiple teams
now and his story is actually quite interesting
and it does make a lot of sense for a Blues
team that despite picking up a win
in their most recent game has been struggling out of
the gate in terms of the forward group.
We're going to break down exactly who this player is,
why this could be a fit and much
more in this episode of Blues Digest including how
the team has been playing as of late because
fans have high expectations coming into this season
and it might be our fault here on the
channel and guys if you're not yet subscribed
to the channel make sure to do so as we've noticed
about 60 of you guys who watch these videos
on the regular are not subscribed to the channel
which means you're missing interesting key updates details all
of that fun stuff on the Blues every
single day but Mark let's get right into it
a very interesting player in Connor Zary is drawing
interest around the league
and i believe from the St. Louis Blues as well now we've learned from
Elliot Friedman that multiple teams are interested
and have been linked to Connor Zary at this
point he's an interesting player
because he was just sent down to the AHL so in theory why would
you want a player like that but i think there's
a lot to this player Mark that could help the
Blues could help a lot of teams
and i think if you acquire him now he has a chip on his shoulder
where he wants to make an impact in the NHL
and kind of stick it to the Flames as well for what
they've done so with Connor Zary of course going down
and clearing waivers a lot of this
has to do with the cap, teams can't go out
and take on big cap hits if they're not going to use
a guy and plus you get that 30-day grace period of him clearing waivers
so if you acquire him you
can still bounce him back
and for it doesn't need to be immediately in the NHL, you could put
him in the AHL with Springfield, see how he does
if he starts to dominate then you call him up
but Connor Zary a very interesting player
a very young player that has seen his production
drop season after season with the Calgary Flames
of course last year 34 points incredible but never
really hitting the 20 goal plateau that maybe they were expecting
which ended up him going on
waivers and we see that team lead into a youth movement
but now teams are starting to look at
Connor Zary, the trade interest continues
to go up, Elliot Friedman spoke about it on Saturday night
headlines meaning the Vancouver Canucks
but multiple other teams are starting to look at
Connor Zary and the interest continues to grow
but the biggest thing is what we know is Calgary
does not want to retain salary with Connor Zary coming back
but there is a lot of strengths that
he brings to an organization
and looking for an offensive reset I think he fits perfect within
this team now they're looking at Connor Zary
and the scouting report his goal rate leaves room to
be usually supporting scores
and we can see everything he's good at of course he needs to
pick up his speed he needs to be a bigger player on the ice
but with Connor Zeri in my opinion it
feels like a win-win going to acquire a young guy
with a vengeance hey sounds like Mason McTavish
and he's been incredible here what
is your thoughts Darius on Connor Zeri and genuinely
I think we need to see Alex team all over acquiring
a guy like this because it's a low risk a very
high reward I really like redemption arcs
and I think Mason McTavish is in the middle of one
He's going to have one here with St. Louis
Because he looks really good so far
And I think Connor Zeri, there's so much to this player still
And I think trying to get a player
To be who he is
And more of who he is
Sending him down to the AHL
It doesn't always work
And I don't know if that's the best route sometimes
Hey, how about this?
Your team stinks if you're the Calgary Flames
How about that? He doesn't have anyone to play with
There's nobody there
And you traded Nazem Kadri last year, right?
The team is not very good
And obviously everything that's happening
with Jonathan Huberdeau as well
so the team is just straight up not very good
if you were to add him in a supporting role an
offensive supporting role in another team like
the Blues where you do have top guys that can produce
like in theory Holloway and in theory Schnuder as well
and in theory let's just say the first
line and we'll talk about them later
in this video too uh it could work out i think this is a
scenario where maybe you don't have to pay
as much for a former first overall or sorry first
round pick of the Calgary
Flames and you can see he was placed on waivers
last week he cleared waivers
he went down he scored in his first game
in the AHL because he is an NHL
player and then
the report started to come out about
him being linked to multiple teams so Mark
I think that it actually makes sense to add a player
like this and
again we have multiple other updates we're going to get to
on the Blues too because they've made some roster moves but
I think that it actually does
make sense to try and acquire a player like this
they would have to move some money out
But I think it would just spark a little bit in the offense
because we're not seeing too much right now.
And he has to fit, as you can see here,
the Blues cap situation because he will bring $3.7 million
in cap eaten up by his contract for the next two years.
And with the Flames, of course,
they have a lot of contracts on the books.
They don't want to retain salary.
Taking that just shy of $4 million is probably going to be the make
or break if the Blues can get this done.
with no retention coming from calgary you would need
to of course maybe attach an asset you can't
do this trade with the straight up as you can see with the current cap
and where the blues currently
sit maybe this is where you attach
a player you make some roster moves send guys down of course
this is all stats before they made the roster moves
with multiple guys coming up and an injury
which we're going to touch
on but Darius Conner's area again it feels like a guy he fits in this
team like a glove a young player redemption arc we love
that over in st louis and a guy that of
course if coming in if things pan out
and you don't see a future with them that's a buy low
asset that you go out and flip immediately
at deadline maybe next year maybe he fits the fold
maybe you see sooner traded because we see Connor Sire fit
that role even better and even looking at
where he can fit a middle six left winger
or someone that can fill in the gap at center we
know Connor McMichael Mason McTavish do exactly
this but looking at the lineup of course the
Blues need to do something
because that top line has not been clicking like we've seen last year
we see the comments of you guys speaking on it
and Darius do you have any final thoughts
of course on this because we're going to dive
into an injury update we're going to dive into
even more on the team but I want to know
the fans thoughts as well do you think Connor Sire fits
because again low asset maybe you get them for completely free
or small asset to take them on
and so on just looking to get into a lineup
and prove not only the Flames wrong but other 31 teams
that did not claim him that he deserves to be in the NHL
the reason he wasn't claimed too is because
there's a lot of implications around the league i think
a lot of teams would have liked to claim
the player but there's a lot of teams that are close
to the contract limit maybe teams would
like to move off of something in return
for Connor Sire there's a lot of teams like the
Blues for example that couldn't just take him
on right like a lot of people at this point in the
season so early or close to the cap and there's
so many injuries around the league too i would
take a chance on him i think i would look
into a move like that and it's to just spice things up
and change things up a little bit because
not to get too negative here on the channel because we
normally aren't but let's face reality here i did
i didn't i know they won last night i didn't like
the way man a lot of people might dump on me
for this i didn't like the way it happened ross johnson
has a big fight it fires up the boys that's cool
that's not sustainable that's not sustainable at
all right like that's a one night thing where it's
like oh we don't have it we're down to nothing
i'm gonna drop the gloves for the boys that's the type
of stuff that gets you fired up and i do love
that stuff that's why you have the guy
and that's literally the reason Alexei signed that contract
for ross johnson but that to me is not sustainable
and we're gonna get into the roster move in a
second but mark i don't know if you have any
thoughts people are commenting and we're seeing
the comments people are pissed
because this team is not as good as advertised as last season or at
the end of last season right and then they made
a couple moves in the offseason Connor McMichael
you move out Kyrie you bring in Mason McTavish
and you're like all right you're building something
pretty cool here so far a lot left to be desired
and especially with that top line do you change it
do you continue to ride it out until 10 games
in i don't know if there was a lot of turnover i'd say
yes but to me that top line there is no turnover
so you have to get going so to me do you like it
in a vacuum that response yes to win that game 100
but i don't think that's sustainable and that's a
problem for me now we can get to the roster moves
and mark i don't know if you have any thoughts on
that specifically but uh i don't like
the way they've started this season and you might be
asking why do i have the old standings up it's
because this is the team that went on the run
last season i mean looking at the conference you almost snuck
into the playoffs of course not making
it but you built that momentum just to come
the flat footed out of the gate there's it felt like
one of the situations we want
to see more yes did we hype them up too much probably yes because
we're super optimistic but looking at the team
on paper it's hard not to be optimistic with the
moves they made but of course speaking of moves there's
been some injury updates and roster moves
made to the team where Dubé was injured
and called for a call-up with Springfield after that now
touching on Dubé it's not going to be too long well we're
not going to touch on it long I should
say eight weeks with Dylan Dubé
who will be re-evaluated this is added to a already very long
list of injured players within this organization
of course Dubé scored his goal on shorthanded
he's been a good depth piece within this organization
and Jim Montgomery has been
trying multiple things but like Jim said it's now
an opportunity for a depth and that's where we see
the call-up where Dylan Peterson was called up
from Springfield as this is another Blues team
dealing with quite a few injuries
and someone that was very interesting during training camp
someone that can fill in on the fourth line you can see
that from Lou Johnson Suter and Peterson's
fourth line on Tuesday Suter will have two great bodyguards
with him on the ice at all times
that's for sure with these injuries it's opening minutes
and you love the opportunity for
young guys or players fighting to get into the NHL to get it
but Darius are you worried with
already the turmoil over on this team as we've dealt
with injuries to Logan Mayhew's already out
and multiple key other young players are now having
to fill in those big roles like obviously
worried it is a good opportunity for the depth I guess
but how can you not be worried about injuries
right there's a lot of injuries around the league I don't know
if it had something to do with players
really ramping up training before training camp
because there was a short training camp I don't know
exactly what it is but there's a lot of injuries around the league
so worried yes because these
are significant long-term injuries
but next man up what do you got in terms of depth there was
a reason why they made some of the moves they made
who's next what do you got and let's continue to
roll here and that's what you got
to do because you can't take back injuries right you just have
to move forward and you can't blame the injuries either right
so let's see what the team continues
to do and i think that's the biggest thing
but fans we want to know your thoughts on everything
from the scoring droughts from the top line
from everything in between this is a comment that we
seen pop up as well we're after three games so far
was had more points than Thomas and Holloway
combined it's absolutely insane what's happening there
as you said a perfect awful is a good word
for that as well do you think they need
to split things up do you think Peterson gets into this
lineup and doesn't get sent back down what
is your thoughts on Conor's here let us know all your
thoughts down in the comments because we love
reading through it I've been your host Mark
with my co-host Darius and take care Blues fans
