Andrew Garfield FINALLY reveals who's the best Spider-Man | Capital Interview
1 Video View·Oct 10, 2026
Yes, we probably shouldn't
be talking about Spider-Man right now, but...
Rank best to worst Spider-Man.
Tobey Maguire, Tom Holland and yourself, mate.
Honestly, you really didn't have to do that.
I don't think you should be embarrassed.
It was a low blow.
No, I like how you did it.
I can't. I...
This is the game. It's famous.
It made Matt Smith win, had Amelia DeMuldenburg chickening out
and even the stars of Bridgerton waltzing their way out of this room.
It's called There's the Door, and the rules are simple.
We're going to ask you a series
of questions that get tougher and tougher.
If there's a question you don't want to answer,
you simply walk out the door over there, Andrew.
First question, here we go.
Andrew, your first job was in Starbucks.
Apparently, you got fired for sitting in the stockroom too much.
Amazing.
What were you doing in there?
I can answer this.
I was having a rest.
Would you have been writing people's names on at that point,
was that like oh yeah oh yeah it was delightful
so you've signed so many coffee cups but with
other people's names yeah funny how it plays out that's
so true right here we go whilst trying to
make it in Hollywood you Eddie Redmayne Jamie Dornan
and Robert Pattinson all used to crash
at each other's houses but who was the messiest
to live with Rob really yeah i remember going up into
his um his room at one point
and i think there was like sorry rob there's like a half-eaten
cheeseburger from four days previous
with like cigarette butts put out on the thing it was like
that vibe it was student we were students ostensibly we
were just like actor students
and we were just absolute messes andrew you've
been nominated twice for best actor at the Oscars
but be honest do you think you deserved it more than the winners
ah gosh um i'm gonna say and this is honest
my honest answer i think it's so hard to judge
acting anyway the idea of competition in art
is kind of anathema to me i don't really get it
um but i can't say for sure either way whether i deserve to win
or not it's a good answer and
it's the truth and it's the truth would i like to win yeah yeah
who wouldn't it is like anyone who
said nah i don't want one of that one of those is lying well
for ages the people making the decisions
didn't even watch all the movies that's right honestly
that is ridiculous so we're with you
on that one andrew right next that's for another time
that's a big conversation yeah i might have
been given this one because i clearly know
the least i'm interested to see how you answer it
i feel like you're already kind
of divesting i'm happy i don't know i'm just kind of asking
the question i don't know what words these are
i know what you're trying to do you could fill
in i tried to get me to stay in the chair um
come on it's true rank tom holland tobey maguire
and yourself in order of best to worst spider-man
toby's always going to be my number one oh okay
is that because he was your spider-man
growing up because i was in drama school
and i would like practice his lines in the mirror so
toby's always my number one i'm very very proud
of the work that i've done in these movies i i love
playing that part and i think tom is the perfect person
for it for his generation and i think he's
absolutely incredible so toby then yeah tom then you
let's say yeah toby tom then me all right last
one here we go here we go over there i reckon he might stay
for this do you reckon
i reckon he might complete it go
on you've starred alongside Florence Pugh Emma Stone and
Zendaya yes but if you had to delete one of their numbers
which is going and why that is rude
that's a rude question you can walk
um you can walk all right mate
if i don't
want to
i'm going to walk out
Yes we
probably
shouldn't be talking
about Spider-Man right now
but there is a lot of chat
about Avengers Doomsday
so has it finished filming
or how are you getting on?
Mate
honestly
you really didn't
have to do that
and i think you should
be embarrassed
it was a low blow
no i like how you did it
i never understand this banter as well
because I don't understand the intricacies
of what can and can't be said in these situations.
I can say whatever I want.
i'm not part of the movie
I have nothing to do with this film.
and what film's that?
the whatever one she's bringing up
what's the one you're talking about?
the Avengers, Doomsday
The Doomsday one.
The Doomsday one.
Yeah.
Am I just well old or something?
No, the thing is...
No, you've got better things to do with your tone.
He denies it.
Andrew always denies it, doesn't he?
Well, there was a period of time where I was having to deny
that I was in the Spider-Man film No Way Home
because it was a big surprise that me and Toby were in it.
So I was on a press tour for other things
that I was promoting at the time
and I just happened to have to do all these interviews
but all anyone was asking me was, are you in this?
And for about eight months, I had to lie to gajillions of people.
So this is your problem, is you've got form for lying.
I cried wolf.
And now everyone thinks you're a liar.
Exactly.
We've got a clip of it.
Is Andrew Garfield playing Spider-Man again?
Yeah.
Oh, you almost got me.
No, no, no, I'm not. I'm not. I'm not!
I hate being given the responsibility of disappointing people.
Um, but yeah, no, it's not something that I'm, uh,
that I've been asked about or anything like that.
I heard about it and I did see it and it's a photoshop.
That's amazing! So it's half your job lying about roles
that you either haven't got or...
Just that one!
But it was like being in an eight-month version of Celebrity Traitors
where I was the traitor and I had to say I'm
not the traitor for eight months.
You would be so good on that show.
You would be so good on that.
Honestly, I wouldn't be.
I'd like to be a faithful.
I think I would crack if I was a traitor.
I don't know if you're lying now, though.
You are a bit of a deep reader.
You do like your books, don't you?
I'm trying to stop doom-scrolling, so yeah.
Same.
That's what I'm trying to read.
I'm trying to get back into...
I've got into Romantasy.
That's weird.
Now, I'm doing this because I've read our research,
because we do our research
and find out that we're into a lot of the same books.
We actually read a lot of the same books.
Okay.
Okay, but have you read this Court of Thorns and Roses?
No, I haven't.
ACOTAR.
Everyone's obsessed with it.
Are you across it?
I've got his wife into it.
I actually don't know anything about it, no.
He's got my missus into it, and let's just say, game's on.
Oh, God.
It's amazing.
As in, wait, what?
Well, it just seems so...
Romantic-y wife, game's on.
What am I supposed to do with this information?
Sorry, that is confusing.
No, I just mean these books seem to activate the brain.
Oh, the brain.
In quite a strong way.
Okay.
I mean, try and give them a flavour of it.
So it's a romantic novel.
It's not like an erotic thing.
Yes, and there's wolves.
So game on.
Oh, mate, I'm so happy for you.
There's wolves, and it's very light.
It's a bit like Fifty Shades of Grey,
but with wolves and fairies.
Hot.
Yeah.
Right, and the reason why I ask...
Say less.
Genuinely, I'm a few into him now,
and there's a guy in it called Tamlin,
and I think you'd be great if they made the movie version of him.
This extended eye contact we're having,
as you are telling me that you want me in your romance fiction,
is a little overwhelming.
Yeah, because you're saying you love the books, right,
and trying to recommend, but in your mind,
you're now picturing Andrew.
I am going to say, and look right in the camera for this,
forgive me if you're listening, because we're going to clip this up,
wouldn't Andrew make a great Tamlin
in a katar wouldn't he it'd be perfect right let's get into
this new film the uprising you play a plowman
from the 1300s yeah yeah just give everyone the
lowdown on it just quickly sum up the film
um yeah it's a wonderful film by Paul Greengrass
and this is his first kind of historical epic in the vein of Braveheart
or Gladiator and the
emotions are big and the fight for survival is big
and it's based on a historical event 1381
peasants uprising the first popular uprising
in England where ordinary people realized they were
living in a very very unjust society they realized
that there was a small group of oligarchs who had
all the power and the wealth
and they thought to themselves this is no life for us this is unfair
we're going to change things
or die trying that's a pretty intense thing to decide to do you've got
go and see Andrew's new film.
It's called The Uprising.
Give it up for Andrew Garfield, everybody!
