Adjustable Wire Wrap Ring with Stones Tutorial
So today I'm doing a little bit of a throwback to my street vending days. In 1989 I came to
Montreal and started selling jewelry on the street and for a while there we were making
lots of rings. So this is going to be a adjustable ring and it's pretty easy to make.
So what you're going to need for this project are flat pliers, round pliers, cutters, a round
form to make the ring, I have a marker and an actual wooden ring form, a 20 gauge wire,
it's about 15 inches long, and a short piece about 5 inches long of 24 gauge wire.
And for this one I'm using one 8 millimeter bead and two 4 millimeter beads. To get started you're
going to take your long piece of wire and just fold it approximately in half and you want to
kind of smooth the edges so they straighten out a little bit. And then use your flat pliers
just to give it a little pinch so it's flat-ish. And then I'm going to go ahead and get my round
pliers. So these are sort of a larger round plier and we're going to just turn the end a little bit
just to give it a little bit of a roundness to it. And then we're going to take our round form,
hold this with our thumb and just turn it all the way around. So it does one complete turn
and then you want to go around so it's like doing one and a half turns
like that. And so you'll see the part that's going to be adjustable is at the back.
And so once you're at the front here you're actually going to bend up one wire like that
and the two wires like that. So they're kind of both bending up a little bit.
And then what we're going to do is take your round pliers again and we're going to
position them about a quarter to half inch up. We're going to bend this down like that
and bend the second one to follow it. Okay bend that one down to follow it like that.
And then we want to make a little bit of an oval shape. So we'll actually put the
pliers here at the bottom and complete our oval shape like that. Okay and then we're going to
twist it to the inside of the ring. Do a full twist through catching both
sets of wires. So it's actually winding around what looks like four wires because it's
two sets of two. So we're going to catch those two
sets of wires there and for that side you simply clip it off. So we'll simply clip off the end.
So now you have this end going down here and you want to twist it around this part here. So
we're just going to bend that a bit twist it around into the ring like that and kind of wiggle
it so it's tight-ish. Okay we're just going to leave that end for now and now what we want to do
is attach the beads. So they're going to go inside. So what we're going to do for that
is take our thin wire and we're going to put instead of putting the semi-precious beads which
is what I did for the first sample I'm just going to put a four millimeter bead and a
eight millimeter bead and then another four millimeter bead like that and then we want to
so we don't lose our beads just bend the wire on either side like that and now what we want to do
is actually add the beads and the wire to this ring. So we're going to put these
wires here so it's positioned inside and we will twist this one towards the outside
and then back inside like that and the same with this. So we're going to twist it
in and like that and then we'll just clip our ends. So now we're going to cut the little
ends off of the thin wire and you can pinch them in if they're sticking out too much with the flat
pliers and for this ring I'm actually going to make a little spiral with this end to make a
little more fancy. So I'll clip it at about an inch and a half and get my thin round pliers
smaller ones twist it around to start the spiral and then you just kind of go around like that
with your pliers and start the spiral and then you flatten it out a bit and then from here you
can actually use your thumb and your finger to twist it around and you can actually just
squeeze the spiral in however you like it like that and to be sure about the size you just go
to go ahead and put it on the round form and you'll see because they're not too the wires aren't too
pinched around these ring wires you can actually make the ring bigger by pushing it down or smaller
by pushing it up and squeezing it in so here's the finished ring with the spiral and without the
spiral thanks so much for watching the video give it a big thumbs up if you like it be sure to
