Hello and welcome friends to the Volleyball World presentation of the Beach Pro Tour.
The 2026 season is underway and we are in our second elite stop of the year. We are back
in beautiful Brazil, this time in Sacramento, Brazil. Just two hours outside of Rio de Janeiro
and it is day number four of action at our elite event and we are all the way into our
men's quarterfinal. It's our third men's quarterfinal of the tournament. Kyle, friend of the booth,
joined by a very special guest, Maria Clara Salgado, former Brazilian player and Olympic
commentator. Maria, it is so nice to have you in the booth. We had another female Brazilian voice,
which is a different perspective, which we absolutely love. How has been your experience
so far here in Sacramento in the booth? Hey Kyle, it's so fun to be here with you as well to join
this crew. It's really nice to be back on tour, on site. I have been commentating, like you said,
for a while, but most of the time from the studio. So it's completely different to be here in the
stand, checking all this energy, getting the adrenaline back. I love being here, it's so fun.
We love having you here, legend in the booth, as we meet our referees here in this match. Miss
our first referee from Brazil, monitoring teams up on the stand, and our second referee
on the sand, Mr. Iglesias Tisanovs from Latvia. The team's playing here, it's the number four
seeds, Calvin Aie and Remy Dalbas of France, taking on the two seeds, the Olympic gold medalist,
reigning world champions, David Ullman and Jonathan Pelvig of Sweden. And Sweden has looked
as crisp as ever. They have won two straight sets, every single match, except for one,
they went to three with Taylor Crabbe and Andy Fennish. Here are their opponents,
the up-and-coming French pair, ninth place at world championship, fresh off their silver medal,
Indrall Pessoa, a couple weeks ago. That is the blocker, 27 years young, Remy Dalbas,
six foot four, 194 centimeters, and his partner, the taller of the two players, Calvin Aie,
six foot six, 24 years young. Rare that you see a defender bigger than the blocker in this
day and age, and the coach for that French squad is Elmer Calvis Lopez.
Their opponents, like I said, reigning Olympic champs, reigning world champions,
Jonathan Pelvig, David Ullman. One of the best defenders that we have in the game right now,
Mr. David Ullman, 24 years young, 190 centimeters tall, six foot three,
on the beach pro tour. And his partner, six foot four, 24 years young as well,
coming off their gold medal, Indrall Pessoa as well. Maria is, you know, whenever they're in the
tournament, they have a high chance of winning their coach, Anders Christensen, in the box
alongside coach Rasmus Johnson. Yeah, we saw this match happening in Drom Pessoa, and it's gonna
be amazing to check these two teams playing each other. Yesterday, France had an amazing match as
well, it was so hard, and to see them facing each other after a gold medal in Drom Pessoa,
it's gonna be very exciting. I love watching the Swedish team playing, and also the team from
France, who is getting better and better each tournament. Men's quarterfinal underway, France
in the black tops, it is Sweden in those green tops. And Calvin trying to slime one down the line,
he will miss. It's hard against this team, because you know you gotta do your best to really get the
point. Sweden, just constant pressure on you. Don't miss a lot of serves, make you side out.
Back to Calvin, better swing this time, looking high hands, and like you said Maria, this is a
rematch of the Drom Pessoa gold medal match, but we're getting it early here in the quarterfinals.
Too early for some, but I love that we have a great game going on right now. Stands full
here in Sacramento, come out to watch the best of the best. A little off speed this time
from Helvig, as it drops in front of Calvin. Yeah, it's nice how strongly he jumped and
aggressiveness he put in, so he just break it so hard to make a move into the defender.
A bit of a missed contact from Helvig, and we mentioned coach Anders Christensen in the box,
and he came up into the box a little bit earlier in the booth to chat with Denise and I, and he said
you know they've been mixing up putting him in the box with this team, and then
Rasmus in the box with the Iceman to make sure the team doesn't feel like it's one coach for
this team, one coach for this team, they want to find that happy balance, which I think is
really good. I agree, I think it's awesome that they do that, because a lot of times when teams
have the same coach, it creates a bit of a weird energy when you kind of have a chosen one, you
know, and they are such good friends, they travel together, they practice together, so I think it's
really nice that they are worried about that, they're concerned of keeping the energy very high
and happy vibes for all of them, even because they are that, they look like that, right,
they are like with that turning that they do without braiding, so it's amazing.
Option is taken, perfectly done as Dalbas kind of goes with Helvig, leaves an open net for David
to hammer. It's so hard, like do you follow the setter, do you follow the hitter, always creating
a huge doubt for the blocker. So much stress, that's the goal, coach Razzi, they want to stress
the blocker out as much as possible. Another high hand swing for Calvin Aie, just working those
fingers and Helvig holding that thumb. Yeah, one thing that Elmer said is that they have also been
working a lot on their option, which we are going to be seeing them doing more and more hopefully.
Oh, it's an ace for Remy down the line, a little bit of wiggle on that serve, and it's a rare error
from Helvig in the pass. Serving four, nobody up for David and he spanks one right up the middle,
no block there, Remy couldn't get up in time. I think we have also like a similar thing between
Calvin and David because they are all like so light, the way they can jump and spread for options
and the height they get the ball. Speaking of options, there's the first one from Remy and just
a little baby cut shot and a speedy David Ullman can't catch that one. Yeah, I was asking him before
the match like anything new to share, what do you want me to like bring up of different things that
have been working? He said options, the thing that we have been working on. Love it. The line
swing off the top of the block and we have two of the most bouncy blockers here, both standing at
six foot four, but they play bigger, they play so much bigger with their height and their bounce.
Yeah, I think they all, the way they jump, it just blows my mind.
Calvin out wide and thumps it right up the seam, what a swing.
That was a smart move as well because he has been doing the high reach,
getting the hand for a few balls and now he just let Helvey go high and he goes low.
So smart to having this variation as well.
Helvey pushing that pass a little bit far, it's going to be a tight set,
does that go off the hands of Remy? It does. Yeah, Swedish ball.
And so Gisele Amatino first called the ball to Sweden and now they're calling the ball off
of Sweden, a point for France. And I saw it the way you saw it, Maria. And I really think
France saw the same way because they're smiling. Yeah, they went back to pass. Yeah, they both
looked at it here and they were just smiling. I love it. It was like, well,
if they're going to give us the ball, then what can we do? We're taking it.
And because they know it's like a very important point as well, every point you get against Sweden.
Interesting, let's see how Sweden responds.
Trouble here and a little frustration rolling over from the previous play.
Yeah, I think it's like the third break that they get. This float's definitely kind of creating a
bit of confusion for Helvey. It's a timeout here for Sweden. Coach Anders Christensen in the box,
not happy with the call from Gisele, but. I would definitely not be happy as well. No,
but early timeout. Yeah, but good thing it happened right now, better now than later.
Still lots of time for Sweden. But do you know what I don't understand was that the ball is
closer to Gisele. She's a first referee and she gave Sweden the point. Yeah. So why did she change?
Can you translate that Kyle? I cannot. I did live in Sweden for two years. I played pro
ball there two years, but unfortunately everyone spoke such good English in Sweden. And so my
Swedish has faded. It was very little to begin with. You see, if you had come to Brazil, you
would be speaking Portuguese now. No, I need to work on my Portuguese. Well, we have a whole
season to work on it. OK, good. You can help me. Yeah. 9-6, France in control here of three.
What a thump. Oh my goodness. The hang time from Helvey and he paints one to the perimeter.
That was beautiful of how high he went and how he really used the wide hit,
not giving a chance to Remy.
Trouble here for Calvin. It's an overpass.
Nice cover from Sweden, another chance. And David tried to be a little cheeky,
a little funky and deceptive, but he missed contact, sends it long.
It's very rare to see him out of balance like that and pushing because he's definitely under
the ball. Nice dropping serve on Helvey. It's going to be tight. The poke shot, enough time
for Calvin. Oh, and Calvin trying to slice it. It's the right shot. It was available. He just
puts a little too much on it. He's kind of turning his body and his hand. It's so important that he
keeps that body to the end when only you use the wrist. It's so hard. So much easier from here.
Into the tape goes Helvey. Doesn't quite clear. I wonder if the light, because we're just having
the lights turning, turn it on, if this is also kind of like still adapting for them.
It's just a different lightning.
Back-to-back miss serves. We didn't mention this before, but this is the fifth meeting
between these two teams. All four previous meetings went the way of Sweden. Just one of those,
the Jal Pessoa event last year went to three, 15-13. So that's three in a row now, and yeah,
credit maybe the light. Light's coming on, trying to provide some support in terms of lighting on
the court, but three of his serves, rare, uncharacteristic for these two teams. Yeah,
I would assume for the passing, that can really bother, but for the serving,
because the float comes, even for men, the float comes like in a different speed, right? So
I think nowadays we have probably more floaters than we had before. In the past,
we had a lot of jump server, and now we have more floaters, and these ball floats a ton.
And I think that's the answer right there, is that this Mikasa ball really moves. When you hit a good
float, it's so hard to track. You have to be so clean and crisp with your passing. Yeah,
I remember a long time ago, every time we would practice with men, women float way more, right?
And then they would be like, we hate that kind of serve, you know, because it's so tough,
the ball drops so fast. And nowadays, they all serve good floaters. Sometimes a hybrid, but
very good floaters. 12-9, France holding on to that three-point lead.
Good read from Calvin. Another opportunity for Sweden. The lefty knuckle poke is so creative
from Jonathan. Just gives, opens up so much room for him as well. He goes high,
and you don't really know if he's just gonna drop a short with his right or go with his left.
And Remy going high and cranking one. That one catches the end line right up the middle. It
really looked like it didn't touch well on his hand, but he goes just so high that he still got
the line. Jump set here, Helvig. His favorite swing is that no-look line bounce, and he gets
it to sneak down. This is so beautiful. The problem is that people at home, they, you might think that
it's easy, because they make it look so easy, but it's, trust me, it's so hard.
Up and down for Calvin. It's a little bit tight, and Calvin, again, so
calm when the ball is tight. Maria just going high hands, high hands. Yes, and it's something that
it's so hard to practice. It's not easy to practice using a hand all the time. I think
they have two very high-level teams nowadays as well. That one ricocheting the way of Calvin.
It's going to be a high free ball that Helvig will just wisely go and spike, and he said,
if you're going to put it that tight, I will take it. Did you ever see a bump coming that way that
becomes a very good set? No. You got to put that thing deeper. Deeper, yes. Line blocks the call
here from David. He wants it on Remy. Touch from Helvig, but he misdirects it. David was on his
way to collect the poke as well. Yes, David had it. That's why Helvig was really frustrated. He
just looked like, oh, you had it. Serving 12, and that float just doesn't come down for Remy,
and again, the Mikasa, when you float it, has a mind of its own.
Sometimes, yeah, it's like, I really wanted something different, but it's like ceramics.
The clay has life, and the ball sometimes does the same. 13-15, Sweden playing a little bit of
catch-up here. Good swing right up the middle. Calvin staying consistent right now in his
offense. I love how these two teams, they create really a problem with, like, who should we serve,
because the four of them, they're just siding out pretty well. How about 100% side out for
France right now? Unreal. Wow. And another high hand swing, this time off of Remy's left hand,
and out of bounds, and Sweden has to somehow break the rhythm of France. I would say,
definitely get better in the serve is the only way now to stop. A little change up here,
going the way of Remy, and Remy sizzles one cross court off the forearms of David.
The thing with Remy is that he's very, like, strong, but he has the technique as well.
He can do easy shots, but also come full power. Nice short serve to David.
Nobody up for Omen, and Calvin gets a touch on it. That is so difficult to control.
You got to be brave to face that, right? It's like, put your helmet on. In the past,
I always thought, like, I didn't want to play against Evandro, not with his serve,
and now I think he's about so many teams. So many open net swings. It's so dangerous out there.
There's a good serve up the middle. Calvin a little bit off the net, and that shot is way
too low. Helbig with the hang time and the swat. Coach Elmer Calvis thinking about the timeout.
There it is. Yeah, it's a good timeout. He had three point lead, and now if they don't side out,
it's going to be the same, so only one point lead. But also, like, Calvin definitely came a bit
slower. Yeah, a bit early on that one, and then against Helbig, he can read that really well and
just delay the block. Very good choice by him. So both teams going to the bench here. It's been
near perfect side out for France, minus that last side out. They're 14 for 15 now. A little bit
extra service pressure from Sweden. Let's listen in to Coach Calvis Lopez.
He's saying, like, he's now talking French, right, after a long time there,
but he's saying that they should still, like, push the service and block his angle and keep,
like, trying to change blocking defense for line and angle. I didn't know that you had some French
in you. I mean, since he's not French, it's a bit easier to understand. If they're speaking
between each other, then I don't think I can translate a lot. Oh, with the push set, trying
to go back to the angle, Calvin finds the hands, and Gisele Aventino just reminding Calvin, hey,
don't be smacking my net now. Yeah, I understand your frustration, but please keep it for yourself.
Yes, leave my net alone. 17 all tied up. Here comes Sweden. There's a good swing, good response,
a much needed side out for France. Yeah, very good from Calvin, who really kept his reach high
after two mistakes. They definitely need a good float now back, try to get that one.
And the option, a missed contact from David, and the football very close,
I think he had a football. Yeah, that was my feeling. No complaints from Sweden,
they might not have seen it, but I did see that line get a little wiggle. Yeah.
Big miss, 1917. Right at the face of Calvin, but it's too hot to handle.
It's a fraction of a second that if you're not facing really forward, it's so hard. Once it gets
to your balance backwards, then no chance. What a good hit by Helvig. That serve drifting all the
way over to the middle, forcing a difficult situation. Helvig working in transition here.
Oh, the right-handed dig is not going to stay in play. What a touch from Helvig, and he worked
to earn that one. Such good hit by Helvig. I thought that Remy could have tried that,
but it was a tough one. 19-0. Remy will take the middle ball here. Good, calm poke back
from Remy Daldas. I love how calm he can be on these moments. To get the middle,
they're pushing Calvin more inside as well. Set point number one now for France.
Line is the call from David, and Jonathan listens and snakes the one down the line.
They're blocking angle and digging angle right on that one. Yes. Both of them in the angle.
Maybe just a read from Remy. Yeah, I think Remy's giving kind of like a step and showing.
20-all. Set point save for Sweden. That one too hot to handle as well as Calvin
zips one cross court. We still didn't really see Calvin hitting the line. He shot twice,
but he didn't really hit the line. I wonder, like, maybe Helvig's just waiting to see and
at some point diving that block there. Second set point for France.
Nice set. Even better swing for David as Remy just giving him a little too much line there.
I think Remy can try to be more centralized with his hitter, but they are definitely blocking and
digging the same. He's blocking angle and Calvin, but Calvin's kind of running to the line,
but more for the shot. Went for the shot. Good swing. All tied up again.
Calvin, smart, taking a page out of Remy's book with that little poke back putty.
And now Helvig blocking his angle. Yeah, that was one. I was like, at some point he's definitely
going to try that because I didn't see Calvin hitting the line yet. Set point number three
for France. Oh, and Calvin in the right spot there, but it's just better offense from Helvig.
It kind of felt to me that he was waiting for something else instead of really being for the
hit. So maybe playing lighter for the shot. The line swing. There is the line swing you
were looking for, Maria. He was waiting, keeping it to the end. Way to kind of like use all the
balls he has. Good looking block from Helvig with just a little too much line. And so fourth set
point to go to the short serve. Breaking that rhythm. And that's a great touch from Remy,
but it's out of reach for Calvin. And so neither team willing to crack here inside out.
They have been putting Calvin more in the middle. Let's see if they're going to keep doing that.
Pushing Remy to the sideline. And a good high swing from Remy using that height
of that jump. It's just over the top of Helvig. They could try a different serve now as well.
They have been one point ahead all the time. Maybe a little line to line down David's,
David's sideline. Just mix it up here. There you go. But unfortunately it's a perfect pass. Calvin
almost makes a miraculous dig, but Remy's got to be hyper aware of getting up to the net on that
option. It's just so hard. I think it's really hard to do a line to line with this team. Yeah.
Because then you're too far from the option. Set out wide. And that is a beautiful wrap.
Just the elevation, the hang time from Remy is crazy. Remy goes so high. It just blows my mind
because I mean Calvin's very light, but Remy's stronger and he still goes and jumps like that.
He has all the technical shots. It's impressive.
While Calvin's stepping far. Maybe a deep float here. Go for the jump. Go for the jump. I think
the jump. Sixth set point now. Oh it's a good serve. A bit tight for Helvig and Helvig is
going to get the fingers of Remy and a little smile from Calvin as he knows it. Yeah that was a
very good hit. But it's the third time or fourth that Helvig gets the inside ball and he goes back
to the line. Remy maybe could fake that and just dive that ball. The touch from David on the
ricochet. What a play. France to reset here. It's going to be an open net bounce down for Calvin Aia.
Yeah there's no way you don't use that option with these situations in the men's size.
You gotta use the option. It's just what a dig from David. That was insane.
Looking like. Gotta make your game fast otherwise it's just.
Seventh set point for France. Oh wow. Is he doing that? And Remy going for the sky ball and it is a
bit long. Just trying something different. Would you do that? I don't know. I would never do that.
First I would be like oh I love that he's done he's doing that. Last year in Cape Town Tina
Grodina hit about six or seven sky balls. She didn't miss once and she earned an ace on one
of them. Wow. Calvin cross court staying in it. Sweden again no the defense of Sweden is usually
so good and they just don't have an answer right now to find some touches. I think they should
right now maybe they should try going for Helvig but it looks like he's going to David.
Short middle. Good read from Remy. Remy's gonna get the slot. Got the shot that David wanted.
It is France that takes the first set and a nail-biter. Extra innings here 28-26.
That was so incredible. What a set we watched. The way they all sided out in very tough moments
with such calmness it really impressed me. You know the service they kept they tried different
things and they had all these balls on the side out they kept changing. We're like okay we didn't
see yet that kind of hit and then it comes. They just first Calvin was using the hand super high
from like Helvig's hand and then he just comes with a low hit and then he the way they open up
their field and their they had all the options they could use that was amazing for me. A lot of
variability from France to wrap that up and just a lot of composure and mature volleyball being
played at least some of the numbers here in set one. Seven kills to just five that seems a bit low
I don't think that's right. Nope don't look at those those are those are not correct.
Missing a couple numbers there yeah yeah no block on the final point there for Remy.
Yeah I'm just impressed with the composure of France and of Sweden here and again France
0-4 against this Swedish team and so trying to get that monkey off their back. Could have gone to
any of them. Yes set number two here in the quarterfinals a spot in the semifinals is what
is on the line and that is ricocheted through the block of Remy Delmas. A big shout out to the
crowd here in Sacramento they are filled they have filled up the arena today we love to see it
a bit tight and Helvig is there with the stuff. I love how he followed without losing his balance
it's so easy to lose your balance and keep flying with the hitter but he really stayed more inside
than Calvin. Another tight ball this is a good cover that is going to be a lift from Calvin and
that is the right call. Yes I'm kind of impressed that he's complaining. Yeah I agree why are you
complaining Calvin that was set from your belly button. Yeah I understand that you really like
you were frustrated with the game in the situation but you you gotta know that that's a lift he knows
that it's just like and France need to be careful here already down 3-0 you don't want to let Sweden
get too big a lead that'll help a gift gift wrap right there from David. Yes we also got to remember
they they got a gift in the first set that moment where that tight ball the joust right that was
right yeah and a very tight game one point means a lot. Good rip and good dialogue you can hear the
dialogue from David about whether to swing whether to set him. I love what they do he blows my mind how
light and just looks like a bird it just goes up and hit that ball so easily. Oh good touch from
David almost there it's the same option we saw earlier from Remy and David gets the hand on it
but it's just too good. That's what kind of like really makes me enjoy so much watching Remy because
he can come with the full power but it's also like so calm to give a normal shot. And down the
line as David slings it a sneak it right down the line outside of the hands of Remy. The thing with
Sweden is that you cannot let them turn the blender on it's like because they're just too good when
they open the score. You don't want to be playing catch-up to this Swedish team
if you can fight it. Good calm swing and another really good platform set from Remy who's doing a
real nice job putting Calvin where he needs it. Yeah that's a very good point I think the set is
usually the kind of skill that people really see less you know like notice less importance
what cleans the game right. And using the platform there is David who is one of the
better passers that we have you have to be good passers to run the offense that Sweden runs.
Nice touch but better swing from Remy this time a bit more heat on his option.
I think I wonder why he's also like the the jump serve was really good at that moment
something that he has been doing well.
That is a miss from David an open swing into the angle and that is long. It's the third miss in the
option for David which we rarely see very rare to see him make a mistake in his options. Three-point
lead now down to just one and smart calm over angle you could hear David call diagonal for
his partner the communication is on point right now. It's hard because as a defender you can't go
early but if you don't get there you're too far. A little pump fake the cut shot is collected from
David but it's a missed contact from David that was an easy one that he misses. Yeah
and France is back in the game they had like five two and now it's only six seven.
Off speed chop is good the hang time is perfect from Helvig still finding ways to get the ball
to the sand. Yeah Remy got look at very frustrated with that one as it was like that ball we could
get that one but it's very hard with Helvig because when he breaks the rhythm
you were expecting something so strong and then. Oh and that is a big missed contact from Helvig
that serve goes into the bottom of the net. Yeah the timing he jumped he kind of lost his timing.
What a serve up the middle Maria you wanted some jump service pressure
there it is from Calvin. Yeah I think that's a very smart like he has such a good tool on that
one like it's such a strong service he has been doing a great job with his jump serve.
A little off speed Helvig will score excellent control to reset after that ace Calvin overhead
and he goes high line off the fingers of Helvig. I think the incredible thing is also the resilience
these teams have to have to play on that high level all the time because you see that each ball
so well played we barely see like ugly mistakes or something bad happening so they are all like
on that high high high like the the way they need to be thinking and focus one second that
they will lose the focus then it's gone. Yeah no question good and a lot of communication again
from Calvin on that tight pass and Remy calm calm calm up on that option. Like you said that's
the third time that Remy chooses that option the short one. Yes. Let's see if they're going to
change the site for the next one. Great serve that block is out of bounds off of Remy but
France creating some more opportunities as we go into technical timeout.
Yeah at first I thought it kind of touched the line but we didn't have a replay so I'm not sure.
No replay 11 10 into our tech timeout in set number two if you're just joining us
it was France that took a bar burner in set number one 28 26 but I am liking what I'm
seeing from Calvin kind of ramping up that pressure with the jump serve and the side out numbers.
We might have a few French but they are definitely loud.
Carrying the weight of France here about eight fans here in Brazil supporting the team in blue
but the side out proficiency drops a bit when you jump serve David. Our team shout out to Brian
Hurler and our USA squad and our staff at home doing some of the data research because we played
my team my USA team played Sweden this weekend and so the numbers drop a little bit it's very
interesting when you jump serve I think that ball becomes higher and it becomes more difficult. Yeah
it comes with the spin yes less option and also the set gets a bit slower maybe yes you see that
Helvic just drop it to try to get that yeah the cut shot so the way Remy noticed that and just
hit that ball is amazing love that chess and a little rush that serve getting a little too far
out in front of Remy losing some of that height back and forth we go 12 11 Sweden and again another
option you said it Maria coach Calvin Lopez the focus has been working on that option passing
and they're using it yes exactly it's really nice to see that it's on purpose that they
have been working getting better on a skill and it's really proving that it's worth it
Calvin just missing there but I think it's a good miss
we're trying to push that serve yeah there are misses and misses right when you miss on the way
it's a good miss another option oh my goodness this is a new looking team with the amount of
options we're seeing and Remy you can see he's taking that little look as well he's using his
vision so well yeah even more when you have one person that is normally more servant than the
other one then you really it really helps oh what a dig from Calvin Calvin off the arms of David it
France to settle it down quick jump set Remy is gonna miss why what a rally here a couple
unbelievable digs from both players I really think that's the first miss for Remy isn't it
wow I don't I don't remember him missing anything before on his hit might be wrong but
wow what a rally anyways was just like no I think I see zero errors for Remy in attack right now
yeah just two for Calvin yeah that's the first one I think it's a good swing but how about the
dig Calvin wow just putting on his helmet absorbing all the heat that David could bring
and then David bringing that up as well Calvin trying to go low line but good discipline
from Helbig and he gets a stuff yeah that's the like we were saying before the discipline
and the patience these teams nowadays they have to practice patient more than ever
because it's so tight you have here the Olympic champions the world champion
and the game France won the first set you know like in the past you wouldn't have
that difference being so little long joust there right back to France David with the
pickup on the cutting another dig so has David who will end this
oh it will be from this crowd they're getting a show right now oh my god that's like
such high level volleyball here it's beautiful time out for France
yeah they need this time out definitely
he got there but he was just a bit high with his hands yes look how he gets there but from here
yes oh it's crazy because he gets so frustrated with a very good cut shot it's not even fair with
himself after so many incredible digs i agree you got to be nice you got to be nice to yourself
give yourself a break it's a very hard thing you guys are doing out there
no i could not translate that sorry the only thing i heard was him saying like
every ball something about keep going on every every ball also sometimes the break is just
to take a deep breath right it's not that there's nothing really to change in your
technical part or your strategic or anything like that also to ice the server just a little bit
make that server think a little bit more and there you get that got the job done that got
the job done great time out from France when they turn a defensive stop here
they won't as Calvin gives one right back he reached a bit low on that serve
jump set a bit far for Calvin enough time for David not enough time
Calvin works a little magic there to get that one to the sand yeah that kind of impressed me because
with that set Calvin did not have a lot of lots of options and David breathed so well
that i thought he had it David one of the fastest first steps in the game
what a wife with the left and Gisele having a long think about this one and that is going to
be off the block and out of bounds yeah there's not a lot right that's Sweden ball that is Swedish
ball yeah it's interesting Maria we've seen it more when we had the challenge replay uh with
video challenge blockers are getting a little redemption with the players having that long touch
and that is clean from Calvin off the hands unbelievable wow that i love that because it
explains a lot to so many people out there people are like oh bitch what about we cannot pass
with a handset you can if it's clean you can you absolutely clutch it's just too hard to do it and
but he has done it i haven't seen it late in a match like this at on these stakes but Calvin
is playing as confident as ever and he gets rewarded
oh Remy gets the stuff he just opened it so wide his arms now he got the line in the middle
look the replay how he opens up no angles available for David there business end of
this second set France took set number one trying to get their first win ever against Sweden
what a cut shot a late change up looked like he was going to go to the line and then he flicks
i think he looked at and Calvin kind of got a step to his left and change it
so smart 1917 one more look at this shot you see the neck coming down
the hands good pickup from Helvig but it's not a perfect set for David
good option taken and right Calvin says Remy you're having all the fun with the options
i'd like to hit some as well since they don't serve you i'm gonna hit the transition
the thing is that that cladding these players are so athletic nowadays
18 19. David a little hesitant on that approach and that catches the arm Remy can't believe it
it does it touches his face it touched his bicep his bicep you think i don't know or the the outside
of the lower part of the arm i don't know if we'll get a replay i thought it hit the net and just went
out either way it's going to be set point for Sweden it's a good serve from Helvig
oh and the off speed works as David was on his horse to the line Remy might be one of the best
bump setters i see in the men's side i don't know at least in this match zero mistake on his
bump set it's a very hard thing to do even more in the men's side because they can hand set so good
second set point that's gonna drop oh my goodness really i thought that ball was
long the minute it left his hand so did David when it drops out of nowhere oh my god that
that's just insane when he goes for a serve that's really not a push it's just like a
deep close yes but it's not like a very aggressive or something that it was
i'm going for the point you know that was high and please be in serve
and like you said like ceramics the ball has a life of its own
it'll make up its own decisions just because this game it has to be played in its high level
check in a timeout with Sweden that's the thing with the balls in the end of the game
since we're young it's like you never just make how do you say that in english like you just
get your body out of the ball that you're not 100 sure in that moment of the game
the one that the coach will come and be like what are you doing but you know i think David
owned his way to like be able to do that without feeling frustrated yeah i think especially late
in games you'd like to play the close balls you don't want to leave it up to chance exactly
these ones and cover block overs yes or high digs deep high digs so one set point has been
saved from France and they tie this up after the ace oh my goodness how about back-to-back aces
for Calvin I don't think Calvin believed in that I don't think when Randy came he just
looked at Calvin like okay what's happening here and now from set point to Sweden is now
match point for France and that's going to be a double off the block he touches and it is France
that get the upset and their first win over Sweden and punch their ticket to the semi-finals
oh my god
