Hey there and welcome back.
In this section, we're going to use artificial intelligence to
add new items to our images.
Now you can literally type in whatever you want, but in this case, we're
going to try to do things that actually like enhance our image and kind of
add to the elements that are already there.
We've got four great examples.
Let's go ahead and jump in.
So here we are, we are in section 06, add elements.
We're just going to take all four of these JPEGs, click and
drag them right into Photoshop.
There we go.
I'm going to go to window and we're going to start with add elements.
01, let's hit F for full screen.
So in this case, you can see we have a bunch of bubbles in this image
and I want to add a few more.
So we're going to start with the marquee tool, just use our
regular elliptical marquee tool.
And we're just going to make some selections here.
Start off with a few of these.
There we go.
We don't have to go crazy.
I'm trying to make these circles like pretty, you know,
pretty round circles there.
Cool.
Let's start off with that and see how it does.
So we have our different selections.
My goal is that a bubble is going to appear in each of these selections.
So let's click on a generative fill right up here at the top
and we'll just type in bubbles.
There we go.
And hit generate.
Now we're going to show you a few different ways of basically getting this done.
Right now I've made individual selections.
We're also just trying to make a large selection and see if I can just type
in bubbles and see how that works.
Just to let you know that like the selections actually do play a big part
of this artificial intelligence.
And there we go.
Like we have some more bubbles in the background and they look really good.
They actually really do a great job matching the original image.
Now let's go ahead and make that invisible.
This time, let's just try to make a big selection here.
And I'm going to type in the exact same thing.
Bubbles.
There we go.
And we'll just see like maybe it's going to fill this with a bunch of bubbles.
Sometimes I find if you're trying to add more than one element, it doesn't always
do the best job at like bubble versus bubbles, right?
In this case, you can see it just created one giant bubble kind of in the shape of
our selection.
So we can see, I'm just going to delete that because that's not exactly what we
want.
Again, as you can see, we want to create more small selections.
So let's just create a couple more here.
We'll just put a couple more selections.
There we go.
So I chose this example just as like a good way to show you that it does kind of
matter like, you know, what selections you choose to make.
All right.
Let's say generative fill and type in bubbles there again.
So the shape of the selection matters and the size of the selection and how much is
actually selected.
All that stuff really matters quite a bit when using generative fill.
There we go.
And let's see what it gave us.
Pretty good.
And again, we have a few different variations that we can choose from.
All right.
I think all those look pretty good.
This doesn't exactly look like a bubble.
That's totally okay.
I can just go on my layer mask and I can just paint black on my layer mask right
there.
And it's just going to hide those areas because the rest of them actually looked
really good.
All righty.
Let's go to our next example.
We're going to go to window, add elements 02.
There we go.
And then this one, I had a few different ideas of things that I thought might look
cool.
So let's give them a try.
My first one, let's go ahead and go to our marquee tool again.
We're just going to make some selections over here.
There we go.
And I just thought it might be kind of fun to have some floating elements here.
There we go.
And the first thing that I tried was jellyfish.
There we go.
And we're going to hit generate.
And then hopefully it looks like it's got floating jellyfish kind of like in each
of these sections.
Just like, you know, like kind of making our composite, you know, like kind of a
fantasy type image, right?
There we go.
And we can see it does have some floating jellyfish.
And yeah, that actually looks pretty cool.
Now let's try, they're a little small, so let's just try and make another example.
And then we're just going to make some larger selections here.
Okay.
There we go.
And there we go.
Type in the exact same thing.
Jellyfish.
All right.
And see what it does.
So this will give us an idea on how the selection size and the shape of the
selection actually affects what's in the content of the generative fill.
All right.
Almost done.
And as you can see, we do in fact have some larger jellyfish that are kind of
floating around our image.
So you can see here's the, the original, and then here's larger one.
And of course you can have both visible at the same time, which is
actually kind of cool.
All right.
I have a another idea that I wanted to do for this one.
And that would be like little, like fairy lights.
There we go.
So I'm just going to put like little lights or fireflies, things like that.
Fantastic.
So little tiny selections all around.
Okay.
And we'll just call this fairy lights and I'm going to use the same selections.
And then we can type in a few different generative fills.
So obviously in the past, this is something where you would take different
images, maybe from stock or photograph them yourself, and then combine them
together to create these images here.
All right.
In this case, the really, maybe my selections were a little bit too small.
So, you know what I'm going to do?
I'm going to hold control or command and click here on the layer mask.
And then I'm going to go to my refine and we're just going to expand selection.
And I'm going to just put 20 pixels and make that a little bit bigger because
it kind of wasn't doing anything.
All right.
So I'm just going to type in fairies.
I think that's how you spell fairies.
I could be wrong.
Oh, it's apparent making this tutorial that I'm not very good at spelling
anymore, auto-correct and you know, things like that on the phone.
Okay.
So we have some fairies.
They look kind of cool.
Those don't look exactly like fairies.
Let's call this a fireflies and see how that looks, but definitely making the
selection a little bit bigger did help.
So that's, that's a good step.
All right.
Let's see how it does with fireflies.
And then I'm going to type in like glowing light and see how it does there.
All right, there we go.
So fireflies, that looks okay.
Let's try glowing lights and see how it does there.
These look okay.
They don't look like super realistic.
I think I like the, uh, um, the jellyfish a little bit more.
There we go.
Glowing lights.
All right, there we go.
Yeah.
Those, those totally look okay.
Um, okay.
Now let's, uh, we can actually obviously combine these together.
Like we could have some of our jellyfish, some of our glowing lights.
We could, you know, kind of put these together and that looks cool.
I think I like these jellyfish a little bit more.
I think that kind of is like more along the lines of what I was thinking.
Maybe I don't want this one there.
So I'm just going to paint this one away.
All right.
There we go.
And then we have some jellyfish in our image.
All right.
We're going to do one more.
Let's just create a new, there we go.
Just go all the way up to the very top and hit L for our lasso tool.
And I'm just going to call this.
All right.
I want to type in elf village.
There we go.
And then if this works, I want to make a few different ones in the foreground
and some in the background.
Here we go.
Just to give an idea of like, literally you can select any area of your
photo and, uh, put whatever you want.
All right.
That looks kind of cool.
We'll put elf village there too.
Alrighty.
Now, of course I don't have any control over this elf village.
It's just going to generate it, whatever it thinks it should look like.
Um, you know, so that's, that's one thing, but you know, kind of cool.
Little bit creepy.
There we go.
Little bit creepy.
If I am being honest, uh, but kind of cool.
We can do this elf village with some fireflies and that could be kind of cool.
But as you can see, it did a good job knocking them out of focus.
It, you know, it put them on the ground.
It made them out of focus.
And it'll actually like, looks like they're in the scene, which is kind of cool.
Yeah.
You know what?
I'm kind of liking this elf village.
I was, I was a little skelp, skelptical, skeptical at first, but now I'm kind of
liking this elf village con concept.
It's looking pretty good, actually, especially as it goes out of focus.
It's starting to look like, Hey, those are, those are maybe you're
actually really there, which is, uh, which is pretty cool elf village.
Got to stick with the red.
All right.
Let's put one down here.
Elf village.
This is a concept.
Uh, I didn't try before right now.
I did the fireflies and the, um, uh, the jellyfish earlier, but this elf village,
uh, you know, this is, this is kind of a new, a new thing.
And if I'm being honest, I kind of like it elf village.
Okay.
And then I wonder if I do some selections in the air, if it'll make like flying or
floating elves or something like that.
There we go.
Or, you know what I want to do?
I want to make a selection here to here and then here to here and then here to
here and let's set, let's type in string of lights.
Let's see what it does.
I'm just curious on this.
We're, we're going totally off the cuff now, but it's fun.
You know, like that's the nice thing about this sort of thing is like you can, you
can have fun and you can iterate and you can create ideas really, really quickly
and see what it gives you.
String of lights.
That didn't do so good.
Let's just delete that.
All right.
And let's try here.
Um, let's try right here.
We'll do flying elf village.
We'll just see what it says.
Thanks for hanging out with me, by the way, while we do this flying elf village.
Uh, okay.
I don't like that one so much.
Let's just delete that one, but we can still go back.
If you remember, we have all these like little fairy lights and things like this.
Um, all right, let's try this one.
I want to just select here again.
All right.
And we'll just try this one more time.
Generative fill.
I want to do like, um, let's do floating lights in focus and out of focus and see
what this does.
There we go.
And it's just going to be on top of everything else to create our little elf
village.
If this doesn't work out, that's totally okay.
I'm still pretty happy with my elf village.
You know what?
I want, I want to make a scene in the background.
Yeah, this is just, as you can see, that's not what I was imagining.
All right.
No, well, no worries.
Let's do, I want to do from this tree.
We'll do all the way around from this tree and then up here.
Okay.
And then we're just going to go elf village.
I'm imagining, you know, from star Wars, the Ewok village, all the little like
furry guys who lived up in the trees.
I want like a village there and a village there and a bridge that connects them,
but we'll see what it does.
I have no idea.
I mean, I, I have no control over this, you know, elf village, elf village, elf
village.
Okay.
That, that one didn't work out so well, but all in all, I gotta say, I'm actually
kind of happy with my elf village.
It, it totally works.
Um, you know, this, like my subject, she's not like looking at anything, which is,
you know, like, I just want her to look at something.
All right.
Uh, red elf.
I want it to like, make sense where she's looking all these other elf villages.
Like the depth of field on these is so good.
My mind is so blown how it matches the depth of field.
Red elf.
Okay.
We'll hit generate one more time.
It really looks like they're there.
I mean, all the, the detail and like, what is that?
Of course, but like the fact that the depth of field is so good on those, it's
just blows my absolute mind.
All right.
Obviously that's not good.
Um, okay.
Well, there we go.
We can see that that red elf village.
I I'm actually totally happy with that, uh, with that concept.
All right.
So let's get back to our next image here.
We're going to go to window.
Obviously we don't have to like create fine pieces of art here.
More of this is just me trying to show you how the, how the tools work.
All right.
There we go.
And this is one that it worked earlier.
I did a similar concept like fireflies, glowing lights, fairy lights.
Sometimes they look totally realistic.
Sometimes they just look really fake.
So I, I haven't really like, uh, perfected the prompts yet.
If I'm being honest about like what makes it look good.
All right.
So type in fireflies here and hit generate.
There we go.
That elf village is cracking me up.
Honestly.
Uh, fireflies.
See, that looks actually more realistic.
See, sometimes you get something like, it's like, come on, that is not photo
realistic, but sometimes you get something like that, that actually looks pretty good.
All right, let's go back here.
I'm going to hold control to command and click on this layer mask.
Okay.
Uh, let's just go to this selection.
We're going to expand this selection by 20 pixels.
All right.
And I'm just going to try a generative fill again.
So we'll just type fire flies.
There we go.
I'm sure they're going to add more and more features to this generative
fill as time goes by to be like, Hey, do you want this in the foreground?
Do you want it in the background?
Do you want to kind of blend with your image?
You want, it's not fun.
Like none of those fireflies look realistic at all.
Right.
So let's hit generate again.
I'll try like glowing lights and things like that.
You know, it's like sometimes it, it nails it, but then sometimes it just
gives us like, you know, no, um, glowing lights.
You'd think that would be easy, but you know, what are those?
Are those supposed to be fireflies?
I mean, they look cool, but I don't know where they're, there we go.
Now we're starting to see something that actually like might look kind of cool.
All right.
There we go.
Did it give her a bicep?
I guess it did.
Let's go back to our layer mask.
I'm going to hit B for my brush tool and, uh, let's just paint that away.
Cool.
So that actually works there.
And then now what we're going to do, I'm just going to take a new layer.
I'm going to hit, uh, B for the brush tool.
Let's just sample this color and then make a soft edge brush and then
change my layer blend mode from normal.
We'll just go to soft light.
All right.
And then I can just click soft light on these just to give them a
little bit more of a light glow.
There we go.
Little one here.
And here we have like the making of a concept.
I'm going to do a new one right around our subject there.
Change this from normal to soft light there also.
And then I'm going to double click on this layer.
There we go.
Right there.
And here I'm going to say in the underlying layer right here, I'm
going to hold alt or option for my blend diff and say, you know, if
you just click right here and drag, it'll move that slider and you can
see what it does, but if you hold alt or option, it separates out these
two points and then you get in feathering, which will allow you to
create some nice light effects.
Here we go.
Perfect.
So you can see now it kind of looks like it's actually like lighting
our subject a little bit more.
Here we go.
So there's the before and the after.
Maybe just lower the opacity that a little bit more and lower the
opacity that a little bit more.
All right.
And then we have one more example for you.
Here we go.
Uh, beautiful, right?
I love all this red.
There's just a couple of areas that like, you know, we want
some more red roses, right?
So let's just fill it up a little bit.
I don't know if these are roses.
I'm, I'm not like a flower expert.
But I typed in a few different types of flowers when I did this for the sample.
And, um, when I typed in red roses, it gave me the best results that kind of
like looked most similar to the original one, you know, so that's, that's
what I'm going to go with in this.
They might not be roses, but you know, that's, it's okay.
All right.
There we go.
Perfect.
All right.
So we have a bunch of selections there, generative fill, and we're just going
to type it red roses and hit generate.
Obviously this could be literally anything.
I'm just trying to use examples of generative fill to stuff that like makes
sense to actually add to these images.
There you go.
Look at all these red roses we just added.
And they actually do look like, in my opinion, pretty similar to the
roses that were actually there.
Right.
Let's just try it again.
A few more of them.
These are on their own layer.
Again, you can turn these off and on at any time.
So there's no, there's no harm here, right?
You could just keep on, keep doing this over and over again.
Just holding down shift and making this, but you know, it's really pretty
with a bunch of red roses, right?
There we go.
I mean, there already are a bunch.
So like, you know, more, why not?
No one's going to be mad at that.
There we go.
Perfect.
All right.
Let's just do the same thing.
Put one over here too.
Red roses.
Cool.
Yeah.
Cause she has this beautiful red dress already, you know.
I don't see if I can put one in her hair or, or in her hand.
Let's see.
Let's let's do one of each.
Boom, more red roses.
All right.
Let's do one in her hair right here.
And then one in her hand.
Hands generally don't work out that well with these AI tools.
They're just getting, they get confused with hands.
It'll be better in the future, like all this stuff.
But sometimes you just get like six fingers or, you know, something
that doesn't really, you know, work out.
So, well, all right.
The rose in the ear worked pretty well.
Let's just delete that.
And then I just hit the delete key, by the way.
Um, go, we'll just type in red rose here.
And, uh, just give me one right there in the center and leave her eye alone.
Please don't, don't make a new eye for her.
There we go.
I kind of did make a new eye.
Hit delete again.
Let's make a selection right around here.
Hit L for the lasso tool.
And then I'm just going to minus this out.
Like, please just like, leave her, leave her eye alone.
You can put the rose over there if you want, but all right, there we go.
Red rose.
I really can't even tell which roses are artificial intelligence
and which ones are real.
I mean, the resolution is a little bit worse.
There we go.
That's, that's beautiful, right?
The resolution might be a little bit worse, but in terms of like how it
actually looks, uh, looks kind of amazing.
All right, let's do, I want to see what.
Some red roses on her dress might look like.
We'll just try it.
Why not?
I mean, these tools are so once you get the hang of them, they work so quickly.
It's like, you know, it's like, why not?
I sorry.
My selections all over the place.
I apologize.
There we go.
Let's just try it and see, see what it looks like.
All right.
Red roses there too.
Cool.
Almost done.
Here we go.
Yeah, no, I liked it without, I'm going to hit delete.
Just going to delete that layer.
All right.
So we have all these different layers.
Let's just shift click and I'm going to group them all.
So here we can see, let's just make it a little smaller so you can see everything.
There's the before and the after you can see, we just filled it.
We doubled the amount of roses, you know, and it looks pretty good.
I got to say like, boom, red roses doubled in our image.
Looks good.
Very, very easy to do.
So as you can see, obviously I could just type in whatever I want.
I could type in like truck over here.
Like, in fact, let's do it, you know, just like, you know, okay, there we go.
And I'll just type in truck, you know what I mean?
And it's going to put a truck there, but you know, why for one, and is
it going to look realistic, you know?
Um, generally I find that these tools actually kind of does look realistic.
You know, that's the crazy thing.
Is like it actually, you know, maybe lacking a little details, but
it actually kind of looks good.
So like, why, you know, it doesn't make any sense in this picture, but it does look good.
There's just a good example of like, literally you can just put anything you
want in any picture and usually it's going to look actually pretty good.
I was surprised by that truck one, honestly, did a good job.
AI did a really good job.
I tried to do examples here that like might actually make sense.
Like might be actually something you would want to do.
Um, but of course, literally you can just type in anything and add that to your photos.
Alrighty.
Thanks so much.
We'll see you in the next section.
Bye everyone.
I'll truck you later.
Bye everyone.
