Imagine taking any card and instantly changing it.
The six turns into the queen and the seven of hearts visually transforms into the four of spades.
Hey welcome back to the channel everyone, my name's Oscar Rowan and in this video you're
going to be learning three amazing card tricks you can just do with any deck of cards and I'm
also going to be teaching a really cool effect where you can create the illusion that the card
is going through your spectator's hand. So if you are new here my name's Oscar Rowan and this
channel is dedicated to teaching you awesome tricks and skills that will make you the most
interesting person in the room. So if that's something like the sound of then make sure you
hit that subscribe button so you don't miss another video. So this video is broken down
into three different parts. Firstly I'm going to show you how to do the shake change, then I'm
going to teach you how to do the paintbrush change and then finally I'm going to teach you how to do
the pinky change. All of these moves are really easy and you'll be able to get them down within
five to ten minutes so let's go to part one which is the shake change. So as you can see the shake
change is really visual and it's actually one of the first changes that I ever learned. I really
remember when I was probably like 10 or something learning this change and showing it to my mum and
it just blew her mind and it was actually from that moment I became really hooked in magic and
it's one of the things that led me to learning more and more tricks like the other ones taught
on this channel. Anyway let's learn how to do the shake change. So the first trick we're going to be
learning is known as the shake change. You've probably seen the performance of it already but
this is essentially when you take a card you shake it and it changes into a different card. So how do
we do this? Well you'll be pleased to know this is a really simple move if you break it down into the
following steps. So all that's happening is you take the top card and you place another card
underneath it. You then hold this card between your thumb and middle finger and all you're doing is
rotating the card like that. But when you do this quickly and when you shake at the same time it
basically becomes invisible. So there's lots of subtleties and ways to make this even more visual
but let's firstly break down the actual technique. So the first thing you want to do is just turn over
the top card in the deck. Then what's going to happen is what I like to do is I like to show this
card to the spectator let them inspect it whatever it is and as they're looking at this card you want
to get a break under the card that's on top of the deck currently. So the easiest way to do this is
you get your little finger underneath this card here and then you pull the cards back and now you've
got a little pinky break under the top card. Then once the spectator is happy that this is a normal
card you take it back and you place this card on top of the one you've just got a pinky break under.
This means when it comes to picking up this card you can easily pick up both cards. So let me just
you that again you would basically show this card to the spectator or let them inspect it. As you do
that you can see here I've just got a break under the top card. It's really quick and simple and
before you learn this move actually just practice getting that break. So it's card to the side and
you pull it back. Once you're happy with this you then place the card on top of the deck and then
the hand position is this. You come over with your thumb and middle finger and you grab the opposite
corners of the card. So your thumb touches the corner that's closest to your little finger that's
holding both cards under a break and your middle finger comes and grabs the opposite corner. Now
you're in a position where you now want to spin the card round like this however your first finger
won't be able to quite reach the corner unless you've got huge hands and I've got pretty big
hands and I can't even reach the corner really well. So what you need to do is then you need to
bend the cards using your thumb and middle finger so the bevel is coming in towards your hand. So
you don't want to bend out this way you want to bend the cards in this way. So let's just recap
all that. You turn over the top card, you get a break underneath this card here, you quickly show
this, you've everything back onto the deck and then you just pick up both cards and bend them.
If you know you can literally just poke it with your little finger and bend it that way as well
and then once you're ready all you need to do is practice taking your first finger
and flicking this card around. So just do that lots of times just break this down slowly you bend the
cards you flip the card around and then the final part of this move is you just do that whilst
shaking your hand because if you just do this obviously the spectator will know what's happening
so instead what you want to do is you go one two three and the big motion of you shaking your hand
hides the small motion of you rotating the card. So it goes one two three and then you just dump
everything down onto the deck and you can hand this card out to be inspected. Very quickly the
first way to basically make this even better is to spin the card really quickly so the faster you
spin the card the more visual this move will be and the second thing you want is the cards to be
opposite colours. Now they don't have to be but it's much more visual when you change a black card
into a red card or a red card into a black card as opposed to a black card into a black card so
that's just one thing you can try and do if the situation allows for it is change opposite colours
when doing this move. Very quickly before we move on to change number two I just want to quickly
mention that you can sign up to my free magic masterclass by clicking the first link in the
description. So inside the masterclass I'm going to teach you how to put thoughts inside your
spectator's head. I'm going to teach you the same effects that Dynamo does on national television
in front of large crowds of people and I'm even going to teach you how to read someone's mind to
get reactions like this. So the whole thing is 100% free I really mean it there's no strings attached
all you need to do is click the first link in the description to sign up. So trick number two
is the paintbrush change and it's just a really fun and visual effect that the spectators never
really expect it just sort of happens right in front of their eyes. So let's learn how to do it
and then I'm going to teach you a really cool illusion where it looks like the card's going
through the spectator's hand using the paintbrush change. So in this tutorial I'm going to be showing
you how to take cards like the seven of diamonds here and just change it into another card just
like that. So this is called the paintbrush change it's one of my favourites it always takes the
spectators by surprise and it's so so easy to do you're just going to love learning the secret to
this. So the first thing I'm going to do is just teach show you how this actually works and then
I'm going to break down how to do the trick and the mechanics behind it. So the way in which this
works is you get a break under the top two cards like this you then simply brush these two cards as
one and then at any point you want you just drop the bottom card and you then reveal the card that's
on top of it and it looks like the cards have visually changed. So as I said this is really easy
to do and I'll explain how it works right now. So the first thing you need to do is get a break under
the top two cards there are loads of different ways to do this you can do a pinky count and get
a break under the top two cards that way that's slightly more advanced so the easiest way to do it
in my opinion is just to hold the deck and mechanics grip in your hand come over with your other hand
and using your thumb you just want to riffle up the back of all the cards till you get a break
under the top two cards like this. So just practice this a few times it's not too complicated
you don't need to overthink this just very casually riffle up the back feel for two cards
or you can even look and you see there's two cards there and then just place these two cards on top
of your little finger and you've now got a pinky break. Once you're in this position you need to
transfer further cards from here to here so the two cards are just resting on your thumb and again
this is super simple two cards are underneath your pinky you come over with your other hand
and keeping this edge of the card down you just pick the cards up from the other side
and rest them against your thumb. So let's just go over that whole thing one more time
you're you know you're doing whatever I'll show you a really cool trick with this in just a second
you then riffle up the back of the cards you get a pinky break and then you transfer it
into a thumb break just like this then all that happens and the rest of this is pretty much
self-working is you come over and you just grab the cards with your thumb and middle finger just
below your thumb and your middle finger rests here as well then this portion of the card always
maintains contact with the deck and all you're doing is painting this card back and forward
on the deck and I'll do this no more than two three times because you don't want the cards to
split so you just you know you show this to the spectator you go one two and then on the third
time you simply release your thumb drop the card and keep painting and it just creates the very
visual illusion that you've just transformed one card into another so you just do that one two let
me now teach you a really cool trick you can do with this so now you know how to do the paintbrush
change here's just a really fun effect you can do with it so it's this cool illusion where you're
sort of sort of penetrating a card through the spectator's hand so what you do is you tell them
to hold their hand face up and you take the top card which in this case is the king of diamonds
and you just place it next to their face up hand face up hand and you tell them to put their hand
on top of the card so there's no way you can get to it so I will use gosh what will I use I'll use
this old box of cards here to represent the spectator's hand because I obviously don't have
a spectator so that would be their hand there and it'd be on top of the king of diamonds you then
take the next card down which in this case is the seven of clubs and all you do is you just wave the
seven of clubs over their hand and it visually changes into the king of diamonds meaning under
their hand is the seven of clubs so here's how this magic trick works on the top of the deck
I've got seven of clubs then underneath that I've got the king of diamonds and underneath that I've
got a duplicate seven of clubs so there's two of the same card and then one random card in the middle
and all three cards go on top of the deck just like this you need to know how to do a double
lift for this trick to work I won't go into too much detail here because I've already taught that
elsewhere on the channel but I'll do a brief breakdown just in case you're not familiar with
the move so the first thing you do is you need to do a double lift which is essentially where you
turn over two cards as one so it looks as if I've just turned over the king of diamonds but I've
actually turned over the top two cards the easiest way to do this if you don't know how is to riffle
up the back of the deck get a break under the top two cards and then just turn them over like this
and you say we've got the king of diamonds here hold your hand out nice and flat and you're
turning over what they think is the king of diamonds but in reality it's two cards
and you place what they think is the king underneath their hand but it's actually the seven
so that's underneath their hand and we'll represent that with the card box and then what we do is
another double lift so you can do this any way you want so I'll do another double lift like that
and you say we'll take the next card down which is the seven of clubs you've actually got two cards
there and what you're then going to do is a paintbrush change over the hand so you just wipe
it wipe it you deposit the seven of clubs change it into the king of diamonds then they'll remove
their hand and you can see that they've now got the seven of clubs so this is a fun far
amazing trick you can do with the paintbrush change so trick number three is the pinky change
now I actually don't know where I learned this move I think it was in like some old book or
something but this is a little bit harder than the previous two changes so if you're looking to
challenge yourself then this is a really good one to learn that being said it's not impossible
anyone can do it so let's go to the tutorial and learn how to do the pinky change so the pinky
change is a really visual color change that's similar to the cardini color change but I don't
actually know who invented this one so if anyone knows please let me know down in the comments
because I really haven't seen many other magicians doing this so it's quite a rare move I think
and I don't even know where I learned it it was in a book or something like that anyway what you
need to do in order to do this trick is well firstly the way in which it works is like this
you're holding the cards in this position and then you click your fingers and your little finger
pulls this card down underneath your palm and then you square up the cards bringing the card
onto the bottom of the deck if you can then do something like a herman pass you can then do that
and then their card is face up in the middle of the deck by itself we're not going to be going
into the herman pass section in this video but for now what I'm going to do is just explain how
the actual card change works so it's best if you change a red card into a black card a black card
into a red card as explained earlier and then all that happens is you hold the deck in this grip
here so the deck is face up so the spectators if they were over there you'd be holding the deck
like this and what you're going to do is your little finger is the most important finger in
this move but before that your thumb is just below halfway and these three fingers are on
the other side of the deck then what you need to do is practice applying pressure with your
little finger to the where roughly where the bottom pip is or the bottom corner of the card
and the pad of your little finger is going to apply pressure to the deck going this way and drag
the card down and eventually it's going to hit a point where the card sort of flicks out of view
and then you keep pressing pushing your little finger forward until the card is basically
parallel with the ground so that's what's happening but let's break it down even more
so your thumb is here these three fingers are here and you want the spectators only really
seeing the top half of the card then you do apply a lot of pressure so you're really pushing your
little finger into this top card here and as you do that you drag it down and the more pressure
apply the faster it's going to flick out of view like this then all that happens is this hand palm
up just comes and collects the bottom card and you lay the rest of the cards down on top of it
and it really looks as if you visually change the cards then if you want to sort of reveal that card
you can give it you know the cards a nice cut snap your fingers turn the deck over there's one card
face up in the middle of the deck which is the one you just made vanish so that's the pinky vanish
and yeah it's a really fun move i hope you enjoy learning it thanks so much for watching this video
