2026 VidantaWorld Mexico Open recap: Andrew Novak get 1st solo PGA Tour win
Nov 3, 2026
Andrew Novak is a winner for the second time on the PGA Tour,
but at the Vedanta World Mexico Open,
he became a solo winner for the first time,
and he did it in record fashion.
I'm Ryan Balinty with Golf News Net,
here to look back at the Vedanta World Mexico Open,
played now in the fall portion of the PGA Tour schedule
at Vedanta Vallarta in Mexico.
First of back-to-back events for the PGA Tour in Mexico.
They were in the kind of central,
west-central portion of the country for this event,
And then they move to the.
Baja, California portion of the country
in Los Cabos for the World Wide Technology Championship,
which is at El Cardenal this upcoming week.
But back to Andrew Novak.
Wins for the first time as a solo winner on this tour.
He won with Ben Griffin just a couple years ago.
At the Zurich Classic in New Orleans one year, well,
two years ago to get their first win together.
And this was a product of a great two middle rounds for Andrew Novak,
where he shot 61 and 62 on a rerouted golf course that was expected
to play soft because of the weather conditions leading into the event.
He took full advantage, shot 123 in the middle two rounds,
took a huge lead into the final round.
And that last 18 holes was effectively a procession.
He shot 269 in the final round for 25 under.
259, setting the tournament record in the course of business.
He wound up beating Stephen Fisk and Chris Ventura
by five shots for the victory in the $6 million event.
Gets $1,080,000, gets 29-ish official World Golf ranking points.
So those things are great for him.
He's also now 53rd in the FedExCup fall standings.
He was 89th heading into the week.
Didn't have the best year.
Certainly had his status on the PGA Tour locked up.
But this now.
Pretty much guarantees he's going to find himself
in the first two signature events of 2025.
Remember, players who finish 51st through 60th
in the FedExCup fall standings at the end of the FedExCup fall,
they get entry into the first two signature events of the year,
both out in California, out of Pebble Beach and Riviera.
So it's a huge opportunity for Andrew Novak now having won
his first solo title on the PGA Tour
to get a chance to play in those two events.
We still have plenty of events left in the FedExCup fall.
We've got the aforementioned Worldwide Technology Championship
this week down at El Cardenal,
which is a tremendous Tiger Woods design.
Similarly open kind of style golf course.
Ben Griffin, the guy he won the Zurich Classic with,
is the defending champion there.
Then we're going to have the Austin Championship.
which used to be the Good Good Championship.
It's now the Austin Championship with
Korn Ferry Tour sponsor Compliance Solutions
stepping in to be the new presenting sponsor.
And then we will wrap up the FedEx Cup
as we always do with the RSM Classic
at Sea Island in Georgia.
