Seven styling tips that make your outfits look more expensive.
Hello my name is Lydia
and I am a style educator helping you maximize your own wardrobes.
And I guess this is part of a bit of a series that I've been doing,
going back to what kind of founded my channel almost,
this classic style
With a bit of a twist, outfits that can make you look chic,
polished, put together and that are
easily doable within your own wardrobes
which I think is the most important.
So I've got seven ideas all of which are easy to implement
and hopefully will give you a bit
of inspiration in this autumn winter season.
Tip number one is contrasting genres.
So this goes back to my fusion styling concept
that I came up with which basically means fusing
together two styles that you wouldn't naturally put together
and this is so easy. So something
like denim with something dressier just looks so elegant,
polished and effortless.
And I think that is the key to creating this kind
of style is to form looks that aren't overly try hard.
I'm partnering with Klarna for this tip
to tell you that they're now available at M&S.
So that is where this whole outfit is from.
And I love these pieces.
I've actually had them sitting on my rail for a week or so.
And I've been dying to actually start wearing them
because I think they're all such great pieces.
They work really nicely together, obviously,
but separately too.
Can you see the little kind of bottom detail here?
These are so cool, I feel like they look so good.
A little bit elevated and a little bit of a twist
on classic jeans which is really nice
for what we're talking about today. This kind of luxury
style is all about these small little details within your pieces
and then obviously the
contrasting genres that I mentioned
which is why I chose this jacket to demonstrate the point. I feel
like this jacket will be so useful in this season
and they can feel a little bit repetitive and
Even sometimes.
We just need a light cream jacket and it brightens the whole look.
You can throw this over your shoulders as a bit of a layer.
You can wear it very very dressed up
if you need like a proper kind
of glam evening look especially around party season
or you can do what I've done today. It also looks great with burgundy.
These two pieces, I've spoken about
these before actually, these incredible
Burgundy boots that are like a sort
of like calf length almost like low calf
and they match really nicely with the clutch
and just as a side note I do think burgundy
Fits really nicely into this whole luxurious,
looking expensive kind of look.
It has that richness to it as a shade.
So it's nice to add in that if you want a pop of colour in your outfit.
M&S has some unmissable offers on at the minute.
So do go and check them out.
I'll leave the links below.
And don't forget Klarna is available at checkout on Marks and Spencers.
And you can split your purchases into three interest-free payments.
As I said, links below and everything can be found
through my Klarna Creator Shop as well.
Tip number two is go for shape instead of anything fussy.
Forget things like prints, patterns, logos, fussy detail.
A really easy way to look more expensive
or have that luxury feel to your outfit is to opt
for shape instead of all of this fuss. I'm not
saying that look can never be or look expensive
but I think you can easily go wrong with it. So I
think if you're looking for that straightforward shortcut
to creating this look it's opting for
Interesting, cool.
Shapes that give your look that elevated feel.
I love a shoulder pad, absolutely no secret around here.
Anything with a shoulder pad I think looks a
lot more architectural, I think it does make pieces
look more expensive, a little bit more modern but
still classic at the same time, shoulder pads are not going anywhere.
This particular blouse is
really nice because it's got the draped asymmetric detail
of the neckline with the shoulder pads and
And then I've just paired it with these tulip trousers.
I got these from COS last year, but just...
an example of how you can
do two interesting shapes together you know you don't have to
pair a top like this with something very very straight
and simple you could go for a slightly
looser trouser something a bit more of an interesting shape
because we've not got all
of that print pattern ruffle frills lace anything like
that you can then
play around with different shapes together
and i think this creates a very
Polished but still fashionable look.
Tip number three, swap your trainers for loafers.
This is one of my absolute favourite hacks.
I don't remember the last time I put trainers on.
I honestly wear my loafers every single day,
even if I go out for a walk. Obviously not like a muddy
long field walk, but if I'm just going out for a bit
of fresh air I'll pop my loafers on. I find
them so so comfortable. They're so easy to just throw on,
you don't need to bother with the laces.
Most importantly I think they just look more expensive,
more fashionable,
a bit more thought out and just a little bit different. Everybody
wears trainers and we have been doing for years
so let's switch it up with a loafer. You can find
so many comfortable versions around online
so you don't need to worry about comfort because
I actually sometimes think some of them
are more comfortable than trainers. They have
Thicker soles than some trainers.
They have less places to rub and dig into,
especially a soft leather.
So I just think they're perfect for day-to-day life
and elevate every outfit.
I like wearing mine,
or I actually wear mine with all different jeans,
straight jeans like these, white jeans.
Balloon jeans, I wear them with.
I wear them with wide leg jeans.
I just think they look so cool.
And I think because they're a smarter shoe,
that is what makes your outfit
look a little bit more expensive.
So you can be wearing these casual pieces,
like jeans, a jumper, a coat.
This is a not like really exciting outfit.
This outfit with trainers just wouldn't feel the same
so because they're a little bit more of a
substantial sort of classic wardrobe piece it just
then transforms your entire look so
although you probably think people don't look
at your shoes that much actually
visually people do and they take in the full outfit
so I do think the loafers make
all the difference. Tip number four is to add some sheen.
So essentially I mean add something shiny to your look
and I'm never going to stop talking
about croc. You all know my absolute love and obsession around croc,
I just think it looks so elevated. I just think it looks so
Luxurious, so expensive, so classic, so timeless.
This one should still be available from Arket
and choose something like high shine.
It doesn't have to be cropped but maybe something patent or
a bag or a leather that has a shine to it because I do think that gives
The outfit that expensive quality it's almost like adding
that texture of something rich and
indulgent looking. The same with something like a big bangle
so you don't have to do it with the bag
and obviously you might be somewhere where you take your bag off
but do it with a bangle do it
with jewelry do it with a belt something like a croc belt
or high shine belt. The bangle in
this shiny gold metal in particular looks really expensive
to me it gives the outfit a luxurious look
A little hack is I mentioned this the other day
but put something like a cuff over your
sleeve especially at this time of year
because not only does it look a little bit cooler
and more stylish you can actually see the bangle
when it's this time of year and you've
got sleeves down.
I've also added in a high shine earring
but anything that kind of catches your eye with
a sheen to it or shine to it definitely has that expensive feel.
Tip number five, if in doubt...
Cream black and camel. Sometimes we just need
a go-to expensive looking colour combination
and I just think...
There's nothing that beats these three colours together.
The cream just breaks up the camel and black together.
Otherwise, I think it would feel a little bit flat.
And I think cream does just have
that naturally expensive look and tone to it.
You could go for any shade of camel, whether that's something
a little bit more muted to something a little bit stronger.
This is a bit more of a beigey camel.
I've then paired it with a bit of texture, so black leather.
It doesn't have to be this.
But as I was mentioning before about adding a sheen or shine,
I think something like a leather skirt ticks that box.
I also think it ticks some of the other boxes
of something a little bit more dressy
with something more casual like a jumper.
And also the concept of shape over too much detail.
All of these pieces have great shapes to them.
So I think this overall outfit is one that feels very expensive, but
Don't think that expensive has to feel really kind of classic
and stuffy looking. I think it
can feel modern too, especially
when you're looking at shape and I just think these colours
look so good together.
Tip number six to looking expensive is chocolate brown faux fur.
And I specifically say chocolate brown
because I think it looks so luxurious. It's a bit like
that dark croc.
Adding this like dark brown texture just looks so chic. It's very old
Hollywood glamour. This coat is from Pretty Lavish.
I think this is the most amazing coat
ever. This is perfect.
You know, I get loads of questions about wedding guests like...
Winter wedding guest outfits and what to wear
and what layers to wear and what jackets.
This is so nice because it's like kind of cropped boxy
and has almost an evening feel to it but then
you can very much wear it in the day like
I've done here just with a wide leg trouser
and my trusty loafers.
You don't have to do it as a coat you could do it as a collar, a scarf.
They look really good too.
If you just want to add a little pop of it
into your wardrobe or don't want to buy a whole coat,
try out a little splash of it with a scarf.
There's so many around.
I particularly have had scarves like this for years
and faux fur coats for years and years.
I actually mentioned this on Instagram the other day
that I've got one from Zara.
I got, I think I worked out it was at least 11 years old, if not more.
I've still got it and I
still wear it. It never goes out of style
and I think that is the beauty of a faux fur is that
it comes back every single year
and always has that really expensive polished look to it.
My final tip to looking more expensive is tonal dressing.
Yes, creams and beiges look great,
but if you want to do a little bit of a modern twist on that look.
Try a burgundy or a very dark brown.
Maybe I should have just done brown as a whole category
because I do think it has that luxurious
but contemporary look to it.
Another thing to add that I've kind of noticed
popping up through this video
is that leather is a bit of a reoccurring theme.
And I think that is what gives an outfit
a modern contemporary fresh twist.
Whereas the tonal then gives it
that expensive polished pulled together twist.
So then combining.
Finding the two looks super chic, very expensive,
very classy, but also not old-fashioned looking
at the same time. And I've added in the M&S accessories.
So I've got the burgundy bag.
I feel like I'll wear this a lot because it's so simple.
It's a really good size too. And
then I've also got the burgundy boots on,
which again, they're a really nice shade because
neither of these are too burgundy,
which means they can then tone with things like
The trousers which have a bit more of a brownie tone to them
but then the jacket is a bit more
burgundy so it can pick up on that as well
so really nice accessories and I think it's good
to have a matching bag and shoes because
then you can kind of do a bit of colour sandwiching
and wear anything in the middle
but tonal look always has my heart no matter what the shade.
It always looks great.
So maybe try a little bit of burgundy this autumn winter.
