Arthur Awakens

Bob Dylan's visit to His Holiness Pope Leo XIV last week got me thinking about Bob's 'Born Again' years. Especially relevant for me as this was my first exposure to Bob's music, only allowed because it was 'christian' and my parents at the time were deep into the pentecostal scene.
This song is from Bob's first album of that short era, 'Slow Train Coming' in 1979:

Longing for a hero to save us, whether Arthur, Jesus, Thor or Aragorn can be a strong drug for the human mind. And the trope is especially potent when our lives seem terrible. You have no control over heros, real or mythical, but we can be kind to those around us, and work on our own nature with the tools available to us.
