Nov 6, 2026
We begin with breaking news tonight.
SkyFox live over a possible explosion in North Whittier,
the city of industry, sent one person to the hospital
and forced 20 homes to evacuate. Authorities believe a firework caused
the blast around seven near Bunbury and Oakman drives.
The man transported to the hospital was in critical condition.
Sheriff's deputies and firefighters
are on the scene blocking nearby roads while the bomb squad.
is investigating more explosive devices found.
Residents in that area were asked to leave as a safety precaution.
We're watching this one for you.
With that, welcome to Good Night LA.
I'm Christine Devine.
The city of Los Angeles has spoken.
LA officially has a new incoming mayor.
It's Nithya Raman, making
her first public appearance tonight as mayor-elect.
Here's a message for Latino voters.
Fox 11's Christy Fajardo, live in the Fairfax District.
Christy.
Yeah, Christine, roughly half of the city
of Los Angeles population is Latino.
And tonight, Mayor-elect Nithya Raman simply said thank you.
She made that statement as she walked
into a private event here at the original Farmer's Market.
But it took her a while to get through the crowd
because so many people were stopping to congratulate her.
Thank you for your trust,
Mayor-elect Nithya Raman says in Spanish.
It's her message to voters in heavily
Latino neighborhoods of Los Angeles,
like Boyle Heights, which early results show flipped
from supporting Mayor Karen Bass in the primary
to voting Raman this week.
I think they were very, very pivotal, and I'm really grateful
for the support that I had from Latino neighborhoods.
We're still waiting to see all the results,
so we'll see how it all plays out.
Nithya Raman...
Came into Los Angeles with high energy,
with effervescency.
And gave the impression that she was gonna bring something fresh.
Luis Alvarado is a political strategist
who has worked on many campaigns.
He says Latino voters tend to be younger and hungry for change.
And he says Mayor Bass lost trust after
the Lineage fire blanketed Boyle Heights
and other surrounding heavily Latino areas in smoke
and the stench of rotting food for months.
When Karen Bass came to the Lineage fire in Boyle Heights,
she did not convey a sense of leadership.
And the Latino communities felt it,
they felt that it was a tired message.
To earn the trust of everyone across this city
and to make people believe in Los Angeles again.
Now, Raman is promising to deliver on public safety,
affordability and reducing homelessness.
It's a message that appeals to Esther Galeano,
who says she liked what she heard. I voted for Raman,
and the reason why I did is because we need a change for our city.
If the numbers hold up,
it is a cautionary tale that no voting bloc can be taken for granted
because remember four years ago, Karen Bass won the Latino vote
and she also won many of those Latino neighborhoods during
the primary only to lose them a few months later.
Live in the Fairfax District, Cristy Fajardo, Fox 11 News.
More on this. Thank you, Christy.
L.A. Mayor Karen Bass has conceded the race, saying in part,
while this is not the outcome we hoped for,
the people of Los Angeles have spoken.
I've called Councilmember Nithya Raman
to congratulate her on her victory,
and I've committed to ensuring a smooth and seamless transition.
Moving this city forward is what Los Angeles needs from all of us.
Other news tonight in Van Nuys,
a deadly hit and run has claimed a life.
Happened around 6 p.m. near Victory Boulevard
and Cedros Avenue tonight.
Police say the driver of a red Cadillac struck
a pedestrian, then sped off.
The victim was rushed to the hospital, but later died.
Investigators are asking anyone with information to come forward.
Governor Gavin Newsom takes a major step
to dismantle California's death penalty.
He's moving to commute all 548 death sentences
in the state to life without parole,
calling capital punishment discriminatory, costly, and broken.
Newsom can commute about 40% of the sentences directly,
but the rest would need approval from the state Supreme Court.
While the ACLU supports the decision, critics, including prosecutors,
Victims' advocates say Newsom is overruling voters
who chose to keep the death penalty.
Sad news to report tonight.
An on-duty LAPD dive officer has died while training today.
Happened in Fontana around 11 a.m. during a training exercise.
The officer was taken to Orange Coast Memorial Hospital
in Fountain Valley, is now at the coroner's office.
We are awaiting more details about the incident
and the name of the officer.
A seven-year-old child is dead and his father recovering
in the hospital this after a hit and run in South L.A.
Now neighbors are speaking out.
Fox 11's Ed Laskos live right now with more. Ed.
And Christine, all of this after that deadly hit and run takes the life
of a little boy only seven years young. He's hit along with his dad,
his dad in the hospital, serious condition.
And now we're learning two vehicles, two cars involved in this.
The driver of the first car stops, tries to help,
but it's that second car. The driver just kept going. And that second
car and the driver is the target of the manhunt tonight. Watch.
South L.A., a very busy Figueroa and 77th.
It's the very spot where it happens.
I just heard like a loud, like a smack,
like something made contact with metal.
And I came out here, I ran out here
and immediately I saw a lot of like people, a whole group of people.
This is what he sees, a group of people, a chaotic scene.
Everybody out just trying to help.
After this, check it, the security video.
Look to the upper left, that's the father and his son walking.
When it appears the boy stumbles right onto the street,
he and his father are hit.
They're both down.
That's when I seen the man on the floor.
I didn't even know there had been a child at the time.
But I'd seen everybody was surrounding,
and that's when I found out a man had been hit.
And now we know the 37-year-old dad
and his 7-year-old son hit by not one, but by two vehicles.
The first car stops, but that second car never stops.
It just keeps going.
We'll release a video. We're just looking for one thing.
That one thing detectives are looking for is that second car,
thought to be this one here.
A dark four-door sedan speeding away after hitting the little boy
and hitting him right in front of his own apartment.
To be so close to home, across the street, that really hurts.
Neighbors now left hurting
and warning about the dangers on this stretch of Figueroa.
Look how dark it is here, huh?
Most of the streetlights, they're out.
Yeah, we have to be careful.
Dangerous for a dad
and his son just out for a walk.
And they're always walking,
the father with the sons in hand, then the other hand, the
father's holding a dog.
He's always walking with them.
He's always careful with that boy.
He's always looking out for that child.
And now live, no wonder so many in the neighborhood
are taking this one really hard.
They knew the dad.
They knew that little boy.
I can tell you a $50,000 reward is posted now.
They want the driver of that second car.
A lot of the neighbors say someone has to pay for this.
They want justice.
For now, we're live here downtown.
Back to the west side we go.
So very sad.
Thank you.
Former L.A. County Sheriff's deputies headed
to federal prison for smuggling heroin.
40-year-old Michael Miser was sentenced to more than five
years after admitting he tried to smuggle more than a pound
of heroin into a Santa Clarita jail hidden inside Pringles cans.
Prosecutors say Miser worked with inmates
in exchange for cash payments.
Investigators caught him in April of 2024 with the drugs,
$15,000 in cash, a badge and a loaded gun.
He pleaded guilty last year to possession with intent to distribute.
And take a look at this.
A crash this morning on the 405 in Westminster highlights
the risks of unsecured cargo on the road
after a truck is impaled.
While only minor injuries are reported,
officials remind drivers to properly secure loads to prevent incidents
and keep everyone safe to take the time to tie it down.
It could save lives.
Breaking news at first in Vermont, Los Angeles,
where there's been an officer-involved shooting.
Citizen app video just coming into our newsroom.
Police tell us it started out as a pursuit, a man with a gun.
When the pursuit ended, the man got out of a car,
and that's when officers fired at him.
The suspect was injured and taken to the hospital,
as was an officer with a foot injury.
We'll be right back.

Well, we made it through today
with warmer than normal conditions across downtown L.A.
And we do have a beautiful view right up top
our mountains into the valley basin there.
Gorgeous skies.
We are looking at mostly clear conditions.
And we do get through the remainder of our evening that way.
Here's a look into those headlines.
The warm.
Temperatures that we experienced today,
we are going to see more of that for tomorrow,
but then also into the weekend.
Our Santa Ana winds will also be making an appearance.
In fact, they'll be arriving for the weekend
and then stretching into the start of next week.
With that, the windy conditions, but also our dryness out there,
that puts us in a red flag warning on Saturday for some of our valleys.
Otherwise, that coastal flood advisory will
also continue tomorrow through next week.
We are looking at the potential for not just some coastal flooding,
but also the potential for dangerous rip currents and elevated surf.
Here's a look at those coastal alerts again.
...advisory putting us into tomorrow,
stretching through Tuesday of next week.
We'll be watching for that coastal flood advisory,
especially during our morning hours.
And here's a look at that.
Our morning tide cycles could potentially land us over 7.5 feet
for some of the area.
That is going to include regions surrounding Orange County.
We'll be watching for that surf,
elevated surf, anywhere from 3 to 6 feet.
And our dangerous rip current risk will also go into play.
As far as some of that high tide cycle.
We are looking at mostly minor, possibly some moderate,
and again, that flooding potential for those areas
that we have been watching over the last several weeks.
Here's a look into our red flag warning.
We have that typical northeast setup
with our winds pushing up to 30 miles per hour.
Our gusts could potentially make it up to 45, and some isolated
areas may see them even gustier, up to 55 miles per hour.
It's going to be for all of our highlighted areas here.
The western San Gabriel Mountains,
portions of the Santa Monica Mountains and the Santa
Susana Mountains as well,
will be including areas like Santa Clarita Valley, but also
the Antelope Valley.
Here's a look at those gusts for us tomorrow.
We could potentially be watching areas out to the east of us Friday,
moving into Saturday
as well as Sunday.
Here's a look at our...
Seven-day forecast, 83 degrees for tomorrow,
warming up across the weekend.
By Sunday, we are looking at temperatures in the upper 80s,
and we do, even at the start of next week,
get a stretch of our temperatures on the warmer side.
And by the middle of next week, moving into Wednesday and Thursday,
we could also be tracking the potential for our next rain cycle.
We'll look at that when we get there,
but we do have the next few days to go ahead and enjoy.
Back to you.
Good evening. I'm Gerard Moncure.
We've got Rams news for you on the way, including you'll hear from
Aaron Donald as they prep to play the Washington Commanders on Sunday.
But first, tonight's Pechanga Sports poll question.
Rams are sitting four and four,
won a couple in a row heading into week nine.
Do you think they're a playoff team? Yes, keep stacking wins only
when they're fully healthy or no, they've been overhyped.

The results coming up at the end of sports.

Welcome back. Still no official word on whether
or not Miles Garrett will make his return to game action
this weekend against the Washington Commanders.
But this afternoon, he practiced for a second straight day
with no setbacks as he continues to trend upward towards taking
the field at Northwest Stadium Sunday afternoon.
Sean McVay's squad beginning to stack W's winners of two straight.
And of course, everyone knows winning is fun,
especially when a future Hall of Famer like Aaron Donald
is giving fans a little something to laugh about.
In Sunday's blowout win against the Chargers,
A.D. had a chance to score his first ever career touchdown.
Number 99 chasing down a potential scoop
and score in the third quarter.
But as he tries to pick up the loose ball, turns into an epic fail.
He falls and knocks the three points out of bounds.
As he explains his misfortune, you find out the thought of finally
reaching the end zone after 10 years in the game can be a heavy burden.
I've seen a ball.
First thing that came to my head, touchdown.
I'm going to get this ball.
I should have slowed down, but I felt people behind me.
I'm like, I'm going to get hit in my back.
That's going to hurt.
So I tried to go full speed and scoop it.
The ball was going, I thought the ball was going to bounce this way,
but it bounced that way.
And it just looked at all damn silly.
And I was like, ah.
And then I hit the ball out, and I just laid there.
I can't believe I just did that.
So when I seen it, the first thing that popped in my head was,
I got my first touchdown.
That's what I was thinking.
But it didn't play out like that.
It was pretty funny sitting in the press box, I got to tell you.
All right, Thursday night football, Ravens hosting the Jags.
Joe Spagnuolo making
his first career start after injuries to Lamar Jackson
and the backup Tyler Huntley, but no Cinderella ending tonight.
Jags leading 10-3 in the second.
Trevor Lawrence over the middle.
Parker Washington's on the receiving end.
That's an easy six as he takes his time getting across
the goal line before the half.
50 yards, jags up 17-3.
As for Fignano, he and the Ravens, down 20 in the fourth,
trying to make something happen.
He's picked off by Jordan Lewis.
On the first play of the drive, two picks,
just 60 yards in the air tonight.
Less than ideal conditions, less than an ideal debut.
Jacksonville threatening again in the fourth.
Chris Rodriguez Jr. punching home the TD out of the Wildcat formation.
Ravens have been outscored 84-10
in the second half over their last four games.
Jags dominate tonight, 33-10.
To the ice, Ducks in Edmonton taking on the Oilers.
Tied at two in the second period.
Anaheim on the attack.
Crowded down by the goal.
Pavel Mityakov sneaks the puck in for a second of the night.
Benek Seneca also scored a two-piece for the visitors
as the Ducks hold off the Oilers 5-4 the finals.
11th-ranked UCLA hosting UC Irvine in Westwood.
As expected, this one all Bruins.
Up 29-10 in the second quarter.
Elena Arnasolo feeding Sienna Betts down low for the bucket.
Betts led the way with the game high.
17 for the defending national champs.
Bruins now on top four.
48-21 in the third.
Off the offensive rebound.
He's still alive.
Arnasolo knocks down the three ball.
14 points, five assists for the junior.
As the Bruins route the Anteaters, 78-42.
Their 16th straight home victory dating back
to the start of last season.
All right, finally,
results to our Pechanga Sports poll question of the night.
Sean McVay's squad 4-4 through or into nine weeks of the season.
They've won two in a row.
You think the Rams are a playoff team.
72% of you believe they're overhyped.
They are going to be a playoff team with Miles Garrett and company
probably coming back this weekend.
Terrence Ferguson, too.
Keep that in mind.
Six losses probably get you in the postseason for sure.
That's your Thursday Night Sports.
We've got more news with Christine coming up after the break.
