Ladies and gentlemen, just a few hours ago,
JPL, the Jet Propulsion Laboratory,
released information about a new NEO, Near Earth Object,
which is inbound currently
for a very close approach tomorrow on the 28th of May.
Not giving us much warning.
Now, this rock is between 40 and 50 feet in diameter.
They believe they've only been able to see it
or observe it for about 48 hours or less than.
This is known as or been named
as Space Rock 2025 KX3.
Again, they believe it's between about 40 and 50.
Feet in diameter, it's moving at about 8 kilometers per second,
which is a good speed, and there
is quite an inclination.
Definitely not on Earth's orbital plane,
according to our map here at JPL, and see
that this is the big day on the 28th here.
All right, 2025 KX-3,
first observed on the 25th.
They've actually...
I have a solution date here of the 27th today.
Just released the information to the public.
Two days of data was actually observed.
Only 31 observations during that two days.
Condition code is a little bit lower than we're used to seeing it.
Zero means they know exactly where the rock's headed
and exactly how large it is.
Nine means they really have no idea or they're highly uncertain.
This is, well, right in the middle there,
probably closer to nine than zero, but
we're used to seeing condition codes of seven or eight.
The rock was spotted by Automatic, our AI
software. Good thing because humans don't seem to ever see any rocks.
All right, taking a look
at our close approach data,
we see that it's inbound for 1554 UTC time on the 28th.
Now, unfortunately, that means about 11 p.m. this evening,
Central Time here in the U.S.,
so in a few hours.
It's going to be a close flyby of Earth.
You can see the distances to Earth are half
the distance that's going to be to the moon.
It's going to fly by between Earth and the moon.
We said it was about 40 to 50 feet in diameter, they think.
This shouldn't be a huge problem, although there is an inclination.
And it is moving at a rapid speed.
So, we're going to look for something
at about 11 p.m. Central Time this evening
that may or may not be visible to someone with a telescope
or may or may not break into Earth's atmosphere.
So, in summary, ladies and gentlemen, there we have it.
2025 KX3 inbound for a close approach in just a few hours.
We will bring it to that closer approach date there, 2025 KX3,
which says it was moving at around 8 kilometers per second.
There is an inclination, which means there's more
of a chance of it breaking through Earth's atmosphere.
Luckily, the rock is only thought to be 40
to 50 feet in diameter at this point.
The condition code is 6.
God bless you and yours.
Stay safe and always look to the skies.
