Gadi Eizenkot, the opposition leader who won,
in fact, significantly more, I would say,
parliamentary allies than the prime minister,
will receive what's called the first mandate
to form a government.
In other words, in Israel,
a government is formed by alliances, by creating a coalition.
And Gadi Eizenkot has received the recommendations
of 67 such new incoming parliamentary members.
Prime Minister Netanyahu is left with just 46.
And so the expectation is that Sunday morning,
which is when the weekday, the first week
we're here and weekend now, will start,
that the president will make this announcement.
But there have been a little bit of concerns,
I'd say, in the opposition because the president
appears to be intent.
On creating some kind of alliance
or trying to support the idea of a unity government
between the two opposing leaders, Netanyahu and Eisenkot.
So there's some concern the weekend may
be used to further some sort of negotiations
we don't yet know anything about.
But in principle, on Sunday morning,
we should expect that Eizenkot will receive the nod
And we'll then begin immediately to try and form such a government,
even if it's a minority government, and to take power,
I would say, even over the next few weeks.
