For some, fall means weddings.
And for others, it means football and other fall sports.
And we're nearing the football playoffs now.
So let's get into some of the local players
who continue to do good things,
according to all DMV.
And once again, Washington Sun reporter Noah Ferguson back with us.
Who's standing out this week?
Hey, good morning. Yeah,
I have to start over at Murray in DC where Tristan Johnson had a big
performance for the Frogs.
Your colleague Chad Ricardo calls him the Tim Tebow of the DMV area
due to his dual threat capabilities.
He had 174 rushing yards and two touchdowns on the ground.
Also had 116 passing yards
and three more touchdowns through the air. So impressive
day for him. Had a couple other quarterbacks as well.
Hunter Humphreys from Churchill only had
He had three incompletions and three total touchdowns for Churchill.
And Tristan Saab led DeMatha to a big win in the WCAC over Gonzaga.
And then over in Virginia, Aiden Mejia from Langley
has been lighting it up all year as a running back slash wide receiver.
And then Dayon Smith in D.C. had nine tackles at linebacker
and two touchdowns at running back.
So a lot of big-time talent this week as we get into the playoffs.
It's the most exciting time of year for high school football for sure.
Yeah, I love the two-way players that are just coming out strong
on both sides of the ball.
for somebody like Aiden Mejia.
Just throw him in there as an athlete at this point, right?
Because it seems like wherever you line him up,
he's going to do some great things.
How about some other sports?
Are we gearing up for the playoffs in other sports
in addition to football?
Yeah, absolutely. Last week I was just
at the Prince George's County Volleyball Championship
where CMIT North won their first ever county title.
And a lot of that was thanks to AVL Lewis
from CMIT North, who's one of our volleyball players
of the week this week, had 32 kills in
four sets, which was really impressive.
I talked to her after and she said that it was one of the
most raucous atmospheres that she's been a part
of in her brief high school volleyball career.
career. She's only a sophomore, so big time performance there.
Also, Kennedy Williams from
National Cathedral had 39 kills, which is very impressive.
And then Kiara Oguno from Thomas Jefferson won
the National District Player of the Year.
So, yeah, gearing up for playoffs
and volleyball as well, and same for soccer.
Noah, I have to ask you, with all the coverage
that you guys have been devoting to high school
and local athletics at the Washington Sun,
what kind of feedback are you getting from people?
And what do they want?
Do they want more coverage,
more celebration of the local accomplishments at the younger levels?
What are they looking for?
Yeah, we're seeing a lot of great feedback from coaches,
from the communities, from the players themselves,
and I think people want more and more, and that's why we're so excited
to be continuing to bring our coverage into the fall, into the winter,
into the spring, and continuing to do it with you guys.
So yeah, it's been a lot of support so far.
We've done a lot of great work at the Sun in collaboration with you
guys, and look forward to continuing to do that into the playoffs.
We're happy to be part of the collab
with the Washington Sun, doing great things.
If you find out more information,
if you'd like to follow your local athletics accomplishments
and our local athletes at the Washington Sun.
Noah, thanks.
We'll see you next week.
And, man, playoffs, before we even know it,
it's crazy how fast the fall is going.
Thanks, Noah.
Always good to talk to you.
Absolutely.
