Marco Rubio shoots down reports he plans Trump exit for possible 2028 run

Marco Rubio has shot down reports he is plotting an exit from the Trump administration to prepare for a possible 2028 presidential run.

The secretary of state said staying through the end of Trump’s term had “always been my plan” and dismissed the reports as baffling.

Rubio joked that with several senior roles, he was not even sure which job reporters expected him to quit.

He flatly refused to discuss 2028, saying he would no longer engage with questions about a potential White House campaign.

Rubio has previously said he would back Vice President JD Vance if Vance runs, calling him a close friend and strong candidate.

Speculation intensified after reports claimed Rubio was weighing his future following Republicans’ bruising midterm losses.
