Quick review of some excellent high NNR ear defenders from Fnova. Available here (worldwide link): http://geni.us/DdBDu These ear defenders (ear muffs) are excellent for quiet operation of powered tools e.g. all the petrol powered gear I use for maintaining my garden and woodland: chainsaw, lawnmower, leaf blower, hedge cutter, strimmer (weed whacker) etc. They would also be very good for people who use noisy guns for target practice e.g. shotguns and unmoderated rifles although I do not use them for that purpose as all my rifles have moderators (silencers) fitted. You may or may not know
but I get loads of companies asking me to review different products
and I turn about 95% of them down
because it's stuff that I just either wouldn't use
or I've already got something that's
so similar it wouldn't be worth reviewing, you know?
But in this case, I actually needed a new pair of ear defenders.
One thing you probably don't know about me
is I used to work in a sawmill for many years.
And that is obviously a very, very noisy environment.
I also used to regularly use nail guns, which is a really high-pitched.
You have to wear earmuffs when you're using them,
otherwise it just destroys your hearing.
These are better than any of the earmuffs that I had
when I was working in the sawmill
and I went through quite a few pairs over
the many years of working in that noisier environment.
There's no real way that I can demonstrate just how well
these block the sound out.
Um...
So I don't really know how to review them, it's a very difficult one.
I mean, I'll basically just probably show you
a close-up of the build quality of them.
I've put a link so you can check them out further,
there's diagrams on the link that I'll give you.
It'll show you exactly how they're put together with various cups
and pads and foams and all sorts of things in there.
They're just very comfortable, very lightweight as well.
You know, even a child would be able to wear them.
And if you get into shooting or you use heavy machinery, yes,
you definitely need something to block all that sound out.
These are called F-Nova ear defenders.
And when the company contacted me, I didn't say yes straight away.
I looked through all the reviews on Amazon, and I noticed one review
that gave them one star, and I just cannot believe that at all,
because they do offer excellent noise reduction.
As I say, it's certainly better than anything I've used previously.
You give it a one star because they come with these.
These are little foam plugs, which you squash and you put in your ear.
A lot of people use these just by themselves without
the muffs in heavy industry and to
give it one star because of that is just absolutely ridiculous.
This just makes it even quieter.
You know if you put those in your ears and then these lads over the top
it's going to reduce the noise even more.
Now the one thing I don't use these for,
and you might be surprised, is for shooting.
Even when I'm just shooting around the place,
lining the sights up, shooting targets and so on,
I will not use ear defenders
because all my rifles have got silencers on so they're already
moderated right down
and I like to be able to hear if anybody is shouting of me because I
have numerous people coming to collect parcels
and drop parcels off because I work from home.
If they're shouting at me and I'm blasting away with a rifle,
I want to be able to hear them.
If I had these on, I wouldn't be able to hear them.
They're exceptionally well made, and you can see they're quite thick.
That's because of all the foams and various cups
and padding and all that they've got in there.
That's what keeps the noise out.
Apologies, they're a little bit dirty.
As I say, I have been wearing them.
And if you've got a head like a melon, you can adjust them right down.
That allows you to get those on.
If you're a little child, you can adjust them back up.
There you go, that's going to pretty much fit a toddler.
Nice soft plastic top to them,
Um...
that is very cushioned,
I don't have any hair on top of my head so that is much appreciated,
and overall they're just very very well made
and they do the job admirably. Just take a look inside
the cup there, got a great big lump of foam there
and that deadens the sound. Soft plastic here
for a comfortable fit
and overall just an excellent pair of ear defenders.
These things come in a range of colours.
I went for the black because almost everything I own
is either black or olive green but you can get them in red.
They've basically just got
like a red strip down here so they're available in red and yellow.
If you were using them on any
sort of working site
or anything like that I would probably say go for one with the yellow
because black and yellow stands out very very well.
You're going to be noticed.
If you're working on any site, you're probably
just going to have high-vis gear on anyway,
but the more high-vis you can be,
the less chance there is of getting run over by a digger.
Now, if you check the link out in the video description,
it goes to the FNOVA Amazon page,
and I'd just like to actually thank FNOVA for sending these out,
because, you know, it was something I needed, and they are excellent.
But if you look at the price that they apparently have been,
I'm not sure that they would ever have been sold for that price.
That seems like an astronomical price.
I think when I checked last time they were £12.99 and that was
something like 87% off allegedly but for £12.99 cracking pair of muffs.
Thanks very much for watching I'll see you in the next video.
