Thank you for joining us. It's the day after the midterm elections
and Democrats are riding
a wave of victories across the country.
That momentum is showing up right here in Arizona
with some key wins in some of our state's biggest race.
So let's start at the top of the ticket.
Governor Katie Hobbs declared the winner overnight
with a sizable lead over her Republican challenger,
Congressman Andy Biggs.
Also declared the winner overnight, Arizona Secretary of State
Adrian Fontes, given a second term
in office over his Republican challenger.
In the battleground First
Congressional District,
which was closely watched nationally,
Democrat
Dr. Amishah continues to expand his lead
this afternoon over Republican former NFL kicker
Jay Feeley.
The seat has been held
by Republican David Schweikert for over 15 years.
Shaw lost the race two years ago by a narrow margin.
He now leads this race by a wide margin against Feely.
Some other big house races getting a lot of attention in District 2.
Jonathan Nez with the lead over Eli Crane.
And Congressman Greg Stanton heading back to Washington.
The Democrat has won a fifth term representing
Arizona's 4th Congressional District,
defeating Republican Zutty Jasser.
He spoke with Stanton live on AZAM about his victory
and what Democrats hope to accomplish next in Congress.
The American people want us to negotiate.
We're going to be tough in these negotiations.
The American people have overwhelmingly supported us
to lead in the House and the Senate,
but the president still controls the other branch
of government for at least the next
two years. And so we are going to have to sit at the table
and negotiate with him.
District 5, former Pinal County Sheriff Mark Lamb
with the lead over Elizabeth Lee.
And District 6, Joanna Mendoza with a growing lead over Juan Siscomani.
Two of the top vote-getters in Tuesday's election
are the candidates for Arizona Mine Inspector.
Yeah, so the Democratic nominee maintains
his lead over the Republican incumbent.
Now, according to unofficial results, Brian Matlock,
seen there on the left of your screen,
has 1.9 million votes compared to his generation.
GOP challenger, Les Presmic.
He's on the right with more than 984,000 votes.
Now, there are more than 400 active mines here in our state,
and the current mine inspector estimates there
are another 90,000 abandoned mines out in the desert.
Inspectors work to ensure the safety of the tens
of thousands of mining employees and the public.
Now, we spoke to Matlock on Tuesday afternoon.
He says the job of mine inspector isn't really a partisan position.
When you talk about hazards
and the things that the mine inspectors are responsible for,
that's pretty much nonpartisan, right?
Any hole in the ground, a Democrat, a Republican,
an independent, a dog or horse, anything can fall into it.
So that kind of sets it apart by itself.
And so this isn't really a policy making job.
So I think that's one of the things
that keeps the partisan role out of it.
So Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs
appointed Prez make to the role in
September of last year after the
previous inspector resigned.
Now if Matlock wins the race,
he'll be.
It'll be the first Democrat elected
Arizona mine inspector.
in 50 years. We're staying on top
of more election results right here in Arizona. All right so let's
take a look at the current numbers
for the superintendent of public instruction. Democrat
Teresa Leyva Ruiz in the lead over Republican Kimberly Yee.
And state treasurer Nick Mansoor
is beating Elijah Norton.
And Arizona Corporation Commission here's at the top who is at the top
right now that includes two Democrats Clara Pratt and Jonathan Hill.
