💬 Comment below: what’s something that scares you, but you know you should do anyway?
Do you ever feel nervous to speak English in front of other people?
Like everyone is smarter than you.
Lately, I've been feeling scared.
Scared to teach a lesson.
Scared to go to a dance class.
And I'm an English teacher with over a million followers.
So this is a little bit
Embarrassing or vulnerable to say, but today
I want to be honest with you because I'm sure
that you've felt this way before, but today I want
to be honest with you because I'm sure
that you've felt this way before too,
especially when you're learning English.
Hello, I'm Miss Honey.
And this is my slow English podcast.
I'm going to tell you how I got stuck
in my comfort zone.
And the one thing that made me feel amazing again.
I have been lacking purpose lately.
All of the things that I love to do,
I haven't had time to do them.
And I know why.
It's so easy to stay at home.
It's so easy to not go to a class
that's difficult for me.
It's so easy to do the things that I'm good at.
To be around the people that I already know
and feel comfortable around.
It's hard.
To do new things,
to try new classes that I'm bad at,
the classes that I'm still learning,
and of course I'm bad at, because I'm just starting to learn them.
But it's easy
to avoid feeling uncomfortable. It's easy
to avoid feeling self-conscious and
Awkward.
And I wanted to share this with you guys.
I've been feeling self-conscious lately
about the way I speak to groups of people,
about the way that I speak to smart people,
like my sister, for example.
My sister is a great speaker.
She's always been really good.
at debating her ideas with other people,
at expressing her point of view in a way that
anyone can understand.
She's always been very good at articulating her thoughts
and putting them into words.
It's something that I have always admired about her.
And I'm really just an English teacher
who accidentally became an internet sensation.
I'm kidding.
But I'm just an English teacher
who accidentally became a very popular English teacher on YouTube.
An English YouTuber.
And now...
I have meetings with people
who studied business or who own their business.
I interview teachers for my English community
and I'm just an English teacher.
Thank you.
Of course, I have to give myself credit. I have to acknowledge
My achievements, because I've been very courageous
with handling all of these challenges.
It's something that I'm very proud of,
but I'm still human.
I still get nervous.
I get scared.
I get overwhelmed.
So I started taking
communication coaching sessions.
To improve the way I communicate
and to make me feel more confident in these nerve-wracking
situations. And I'm taking steps towards growing,
even though it makes me feel uncomfortable.
Because it's so much easier to stay where I am,
to work on the things
That are comfy and easy, where I don't join any live sessions,
where I don't have to speak
to anyone or challenge myself in any way,
to challenge my body in any way,
where I could just live in a state
of constant ease and relaxation.
And honestly,
That's exactly what I have been doing lately,
but it created a fear inside of me that I
had never had before, and it just kept building up
and building up until it got to the point
where I was more afraid than ever
to teach a lesson.
And I'm an English teacher because I got
so comfortable that I forgot
how to be comfortable with discomfort.
I didn't know how to be comfortable
without feeling discomfort.
Just listen back and you'll understand, I promise.
And you know what? I think this is exactly what it feels like
To speak English while you're learning it.
You know you should practice, you know
you should speak,
but it's so much easier to just stay quiet.
So a while ago I deleted Instagram and TikTok
because it was just distracting me too much.
I was using it, scrolling too much,
so I started using Pinterest a lot more
because I didn't have TikTok or Instagram.
And I started seeing so many more people sharing
their experiences, their progress in painting, in dancing.
They showed videos of themselves
When they first started dancing and had no coordination,
it didn't seem like they were
very good dancers at first, of course.
Same with their drawings, photos of drawings and paintings.
When it was just a hobby and they didn't have many skills,
but they show their progress
And how they just kept going.
And they eventually,
they finally saw results.
It was so inspiring because before that,
I had always just thought
there are some things I'm good
at and there are some things that I'm not.
And that everybody has their own talents
and their own set of skills.
Skills that come easy to them but that's just not true.
That's completely false actually because
anyone can do anything that they want if they just set
their mind to it. Maybe it'll be more
difficult for you than it is for her but that's just life
and even though it's difficult,
You can still do it. Don't let that stop you from trying.
So I realized something.
Even though I didn't need to feel uncomfortable,
I don't need to go to this dance class
that makes me feel nervous.
I don't need to go to a party full of strangers,
but I should.
And I only know that I should
because once I do it, I feel so good.
After I do something that I was so nervous about doing,
even if it was a complete failure,
I completely embarrassed myself or...
Felt awkward the entire time.
I will always feel amazing after.
And I know that you would too.
You would if you did.
And just today, I woke up feeling very scared
of the day ahead of me.
So I knew exactly what I had to do.
I had to get up.
I had to go for a run.
I had to join a live meeting, which I did,
and I had to go to a dance class, which I haven't done
yet, but I promise you I will today at four.
It's two. And that's exactly what I did
I will do.
And I really wanted to share this with you guys.
Because I know that sometimes we feel like we're the only ones
who feel this way.
And it's a constant effort
to feel proud of yourself.
And sometimes it's a constant effort to just feel okay.
And that's normal.
But we can't let the fear win.
We have to be stronger for ourselves.
Because you're worth it.
All of this time and effort, it's all for you.
And you're worth it.
So I hope you guys enjoyed this little rant.
I know I haven't made a video like this in a while.
But I just hadn't felt like I needed to share anything for a while.
But I love these videos.
