Ladies and gentlemen, we just had a 6.2
or 6.3 magnitude earthquake just west of this location yesterday.
Pop, now we've had another 6.2 or 6.3.
Maybe a 6.1, depending on which agency you ask.
Starting with the USGS, they say we have a 6.2 magnitude earthquake
that just popped off south of Tasmania near
the Macquarie Island region
with an associated tsunami warning at a default depth of 10 kilometers.
Now, I want you all to keep in mind, this is near.
Tasmania. That's going to come into play very shortly.
I want to show y'all some of the other
quakes we've had just this week since I did warn of an uptick.
That would include of course today's
6.2 or 6.1 or 6.3 depending
on who you ask. Yesterday's 6.2.
We had up near Tonga and Fiji
Another 6.6.
We've had four or five 6.6s
and a 7.3 with this swarm here off the Russian Peninsula.
We had this 6.2, of course, off
the Aleutian Islands or the Alaskan Peninsula.
We also had this 6.3 in Indonesia.
So what do we have there?
Well, it looks like we've seen...
Let's see, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 6.0s,
maybe 9 6.0s or more in a 7-day period,
and one that surpassed a 7.3, I believe, a 7.3 magnitude.
So let's get some information on the latest and greatest.
Jumping down to the sizable earthquake we've just had pop off.
Someone's calling it a 6.1 magnitude.
It's going to be the Australians.
The Germans are coming in at 6.2.
Raspberry Shake coming in at 6.3.
They're all over the place.
This is, in fact, on a plate tectonic boundary, as you can see,
one that's still forming.
Also, you can tell via the black.
Again, this is just south of Tasmania.
That's going to come into play in just one moment.
Jumping over to VolcanoDiscovery.com you can see
that they're calling it a 6.3 here but on the map
they're calling it a 6.1. This is a very freakish event.
Nothing I've seen before. They're saying a
very strong magnitude 6.3 earthquake 29 minutes ago
and then on the map they're calling it a 6.1.
I have a feeling they're going to try to downgrade this earthquake.
Let's look at some earthquake details,
a 6.3 magnitude here, and they're saying that
Australia is calling it out as a 6.3.
So, a real quick reminder,
we just saw Australia call it out as a 6.1 seconds ago.
So, a lot of confusion associated with this earthquake.
2.7 atomic bombs worth of energy released by this earthquake.
Again, this is the Australians calling that as a 6.3.
And yes, it is the same quake.
Still at VolcanoDiscovery.com,
we have the Australians calling that as a 6.3.
27 kilometers of depth.
Followed by the Germans calling that as a 6.25.
It would be a default depth of 10 kilometers.
Raspberry Shake coming in at 6.3, default depth, 10 kilometers.
We then have the Europeans calling it out
as a 6.2 magnitude earthquake,
default depth, 10 kilometers.
Of course, the French come in at a 5.79 default depth.
We have a 6.2 being called out by the Incorporated Research Institute
for seismology at a default depth of 10 kilometers.
The USGS is calling this a 6.2, default depth 10 kilometers.
And finally, we have the Italians coming in at a 6.3,
the depth of 30 kilometers.
The strongest quake we've seen in 17 years
in this particular area, Tasmania, Australia.
We had it 7.1, 17 years ago.
And we had a 7.7 101 years ago in 1924.
Now, we did have a tsunami warning associated with this earthquake,
this very strong earthquake, but we don't have any buoys in event mode.
And I guess the closest buoy would be 55015,
which doesn't look to be in event mode whatsoever.
So, in summary, we've had a large earthquake uptick over the last week.
The latest and greatest is this 6.2,
6.3 magnitude earthquake associated tsunami warning just south
of Tasmania on a plate tectonic boundary.
God bless you and yours, folks.
The ring of fire is awakening.
