Video Summary
AI GeneratedA culinary journey through Bangkok's authentic local markets, exploring traditional Thai breakfast, lunch, and snacks. The tour highlights the \"farm-to-table\" nature of street food, the preservation of century-old family recipes, and the superior quality and value found in non-tourist hubs like Nang Loong and Ton Chai Mai Kha.
Today we are eating nothing
but market food for the whole day here in Bangkok. We are going to be
eating breakfast, lunch and dinner
at three of my favorite food markets
in Bangkok. Let's go!
Okay, so we're starting here at Trok Mae Morning Market one
of the best morning markets in my
opinion in Bangkok, absolutely packed
the food choice here is outrageous, there is so
many different dishes to choose, it can be a little bit overwhelming
but luckily for you guys
I've been here a few times so I have my favorites which I will show you
today, but you could come down here
and get every single Thai dish you want to try
just in this one market, I absolutely love
this market, I can't believe not more tourists come here
it's absolutely amazing, as soon as you walk
in, you're greeted with street food, this is the sort
of market people come and pick up all of their bits
for the day ahead, like this fresh veg here
you've got fresh meat here, fresh fruit, seafood, all sorts
but then dotted in around all that
fresh produce is just some amazing
really, really good value Thai food.
Hi guys, met some new friends, subscribers from Australia.
they're gonna eat some good food
See these lot, these guys know that this is the best market
for food at breakfast in Bangkok
See guys, you can come over and say hello, I don't bite.
I know a lot of you messaged me after and say
oh, I saw you today.
you should just come up and say hello
That was a really, really nice couple.
I love speaking to you guys when I see you out and about.
So please, if you do see me, come and say hello
I am so in the way here filming, it's so busy here
Right, behind this sea of people walking past,
there is a man selling some of the crispiest looking pork
you've ever seen.
Cabo, nigga.
Cabo.
All right, so we got more crab.
All right, Mark, he's done well there.
He's fed me the crispy, salty pork,
like a good drug dealer.
Now he's got me hooked.
Now I'm gonna have to buy a box.
And we got a free Yakult as well.
Bye-bye.
Bye-bye.
Right, so if you want to come
and try this delicious crispy pork for yourself, he's only
here on Friday, so one day a week.
Friday is probably the best day here,
in my personal opinion, for whatever that's worth.
But yeah, everyone's really, really,
really nice, really, really friendly.
Even though I'm very much in the way,
it's super busy down here, guys, but not in a bad
way.
More in like a sort of hustle and bustle.
Local life kind of way rather than
when you go to like a really busy shopping mall that being said
I don't know how long I can walk through
this crowd for so what i'm gonna do
There is a breakfast. I want to show you so I will grab that now
and then we might get a couple more bits
Then head to the next market.
It's a super famous Thai sweet shop
that I actually did a video with Chou at.
This is a great little stall as well.
Khao Kluk Kapi.
So shrimp paste rice salad.
It's really, really good.
This is one of my favourites.
But yeah, this is by far the busiest I've seen this market.
in months as i said friday is always for me
the best day to come with the most amount of selection
all right so this is our first stop i had a mad craving for khao tom
which is rice soup for some
reason this is one of my favorite rice soup shops in the city they
also do really good curry rice in
here but you have to get here early for that it's already sold out
but i have got myself a mixed bowl
of
She's starting to make it, so I'll show you that now.
All right, so I've gone with
so that means everything.
So we've got some prawns, we've got some pork soft rib,
we've got homemade meatballs, some stomach,
which I probably should have said I didn't want, some,
Any.
Come on.
Okay.
Burrow
Baramundi fish.
Any .
How old are you?
Oh, so we've also got, look at this.
All right, so .
Some pickled radish, but then we've also got...
Hello and pass the onion.
This is galangal, this is sort of dry roasted galangal
and garlic, celery and then we've got
This is pork rind.
then we've got
Crispy pork, there you go.
Someone speaks English.
Okay.
Okay, so we've got yellow bean sauce as well, wow.
I'm glad one of us speaks English.
Very, very simple shop, just with a little countertop.
To eat up. So the fish one is 90 to 120.
We've got 150 which is what I got with everything in
but you can get one for as little as 70 baht.
Right so we've got that beautiful pork stock,
all of those fresh herbs and veggies
and that lovely fresh seafood which they buy
at the market. All the pork's from the market. So this is basically,
and the fish, this is basically farm to table.
You can see that is barramundi. They call it,
Sea bass here, but in Australia, it's called barramundi.
We've got the soft pork ribs.
I think that's stomach, is it?
Not sure, but anyway, guys,
what a way to start the day.
In our pots here, we've got some dried chili,
chili vinegar, and I'm guessing sugar.
Yes, we won't be using that.
Fish sauce and white pepper.
Right, so I thought this sauce was to dip,
but she's saying I can throw it in.
So this is almost like a
Sauce, a Hainanese chicken rice sauce.
It's got the yellow bean, chili,
little bit of lime juice, I think, instead of vinegar.
But garlic, yeah, it's really, really good.
So actually, I'll try the soup first.
Oh my God, just straight off, that's unbelievable.
Pure bone goodness.
But then you've also got like a little bit of the taste
of the fish and the seafood in there.
It's quite salty, which is good.
A touch sweet, and like the hit of that fried garlic
is very, very prominent, which I like.
But yeah, I'm going to throw the sauce in.
Let's go chili as well.
We'll go vinegar.
And I think we've just made the perfect bowl of soup.
Oh, she's just helped me look very beautiful.
The lady that just walked in, which is always nice
to hear when you feel like absolute,
Salute.
you know what in the morning.
It's always nice to hear.
This market almost reminds me of coming to like
a provincial market out in the provinces.
Where everyone hasn't seen too many Farang
and they're not too jaded and you know everyone's
super super friendly. So this is one of the reasons I like it.
But anyway guys let's get on with this.
Let's try one of these meatballs.
I like the fact that the bowl has a handle so I can actually hold
it up while I'm talking to you guys.
That's on another level. It does taste like almond
guy sauce. It's like very very heavy on the garlic.
There's ginger in there, heavy on the ginger.
Natalja is like almost it's like
an almost alcoholic like fermented bean flavor which is
absolutely fantastic let me get a bit of this big meaty fish
for you guys it's just cooked through
that is perfect i love barramundi it's like salmon without any of the
additives it's got all the same benefits and prawn
I'm going to try to make a deal here.
Again, just cooked through. I thought they were going to be hard
because they were cooked and then recooked.
Perfect. Not the biggest, but if you were in England,
that would be the biggest portion you were getting.
Now that is absolutely fantastic.
The stewed pork as well, melts.
I often get asked what is a Thai breakfast
and the answer to that question is there probably isn't one.
Thai people just eat whatever. You can get whatever for breakfast.
As you saw with this crispy pork,
which I should probably have a go at and maybe even throw into my soup.
If I had to say like one quintessential breakfast dish,
it would either be khao tom, which is rice soup,
or jok, which is rice porridge.
Wow, that is amazing.
Really, really salty.
You've got like a lovely bit of fat, which is soft,
that more sort of firm meat,
and then really, really bubbly, crispy skin.
That is a perfect example of a perfect crispy pork.
And I'm gonna put it in my rice, and if it's any good,
I will suggest a collab for these guys.
So after about 9 a.m., if you just came now,
you wouldn't even know this was the same market,
I don't think, because it's noticeably quieter.
It's at its busiest from very early
in the morning till about eight, half eight.
Then it starts to die down a little bit.
So I would say get here early.
I think, guys, I've peaked too early, though.
I've eaten too much.
I've just seen another stall that I always stop
at so I'm going to grab some food from here.
These are Kanom Krog coconut puddings
and these are my son's favourites. I'm just going to grab
a box just to support and I'll take them home and give them to my son.
They are absolutely incredible.
Some of my favourites actually in the city so I always
have to grab some from here.
They're super cheap and a great little Thai snack. After we grab
these we're going to head over to the oldest land market
in Bangkok for some more absolute treats.
So this one can be a little bit weird for Farang.
They have sweet corn on their coconut puddings.
Um, well,
But I absolutely love these.
My son loves them as well.
.
The best, the number one, I like this one a lot.
How long?
Do you know what, I wasn't feeling great this morning
and then that lady said I look beautiful
and then this lovely gentleman just said I look like David Beckham,
so I'm feeling a little bit
better about myself. It might be this new t-shirt I've
been sent from Unbound Merino, 100% Merino
wool, keeps you cool, but a bit more about that later.
All right, so these are the little puddings
Things in all their glory,
just crispy balls of absolute deliciousness.
I'm not going to eat these though,
because one, they've just come out and they're
far too hot to eat. I've been caught out
with that too many times where I've just stuck to
the roof of my mouth and taken my skin off.
And two, I don't want to fill up before our
next stop, but I am going to take these home.
As I said, give them to my son and
you should definitely try them next time you
are in Trok Mo Morning Market.
All right guys, next up we're at Nang Loong market,
said to be the oldest land market in Bangkok.
Another fantastic food market
and there's some real real gems in this place. All right probably
the most famous restaurant in this market is Khao Ging Ratana,
a very very famous curry rice
stall. But that's more of a morning thing so there's not too much left.
So this is definitely
a dish I would recommend you try when you come here
because you can't really get it in too many
Other place is called Panem.
I guess that's pickled fish.
So it's a rice and pork sausage grilled,
served with flaked snakehead fish.
Toasted rice powder, chili, pork skin, all wrapped in a betel nut leaf.
It's absolutely fantastic.
Auntie is super friendly.
I will link a video that I did here
in the description box below if you want to check that out.
I really like the vibe in here.
It's kind of got this like dark, moody,
almost like Netflix documentary kind of aesthetic to it.
But that is contrasted by how...
Friendly and happy everyone is.
It's got a food court in the middle.
Really, really old school.
Loads and loads of different dishes.
So again, you could come down here
and probably try every Thai dish you need to try all in one place.
So what we'll do first, we're going to go and grab a coffee.
Because there's a really good coffee shop out the back.
Before I take you to a hundred year old beef brisket noodle shop.
So really, really cool little coffee shop.
It's all of the original structure from...
The old shop house so you've got all
the wooden stairs going upstairs and you've got all these
sort of bits of paraphernalia from days gone
by it's just a really really cool
old school coffee shop that sells new school coffee
so I've actually gone for a whiskey
blend if you watch my channel you'll know how much I love
a whiskey blend anyone who's got fruity
coffee or whiskey coffee are all right in my book
if you want something western they've also got
cakes much needed guys much needed that is such
an interesting cup of coffee if you haven't tried
The beans are aged in whiskey barrels
so they take on like an almost bourbon whiskey flavor it's
Mind-boggling the first time you have it.
But anyway, guys, this little coffee break
is probably the best time to thank the sponsor
for today's video, Unbound Merino, for not only sponsoring the video,
but sending me this amazing t-shirt that I've
been wearing throughout the whole video.
By this point in a 24-hour food video in Bangkok,
I probably would have changed my t-shirt twice already.
Not sure I've ever mentioned this but I have a lot
of the same color t-shirts which I keep in the
back of the car and then every stop because I sweat
so much in this unbelievable Bangkok heat.
I changed my t-shirt so I don't stink so much
but today I'm wearing this from Unbound Merino and it
is designed to help with that very problem.
It's made from a hundred percent super fine merino wool
which naturally helps regulate your temperature,
wick away moisture and resist odors. So even when
you're spending all day walking around the markets
in the Bangkok heat you can stay comfortable.
Without your T-shirt getting quite as pongy as you might expect.
It's also lightweight, incredibly soft and ideal for traveling
because you don't have to wash it after every single use.
Which means fewer T-shirts to pack,
less laundry to worry about and more room in my bag.
for the important things.
So guys, if you want to hit all of these food stops
in Bangkok, be out all day without smelling
like an old sock, use my code in the description box
for 10% off your first order.
But let's see how it does at the end
of this 24 hour challenge.
With that being said, let's drink our coffee.
and hit that beef spot so i think the best thing about
this market is that you can find so much
old traditional stuff here it's definitely not as buzzy
and busy as it used to be like when i
first got to bangkok this is one
of the main markets now everyone's got a little bit older
i think and i think eventually they're going
to demolish this place if i'm completely honest so
if you want to come down and see something
traditional come down and do it now and
there's not much more traditional than these traditional central thai
Sweets that this guy sells and this one of the oldest shops here
and it's like just full of stuff
You don't see at other places.
It's also a great place to try durian because you can get it durian
sticky rice with sauce.
We'll get this because Finley wants to try durian. He's never tried it
before so I'll get this for him to try.
Yeah Finley's coming out with me tonight so I'll
make sure I get his reaction to this before we go out.
I forgot about this snack that's been
here for 120 years. It's called Kanom Pagad.
So stir-fried turnip cake. I think they call it
Carrot cake in Singapore for my Singaporean viewers.
It's kind of like pad thai but with
these steamed fried radish cakes.
It's a fantastic little snack and again not something you see
absolutely everywhere.
Kanompaka Jekia.
All right so this is the legend.
I think her daughter's actually cooking now.
Hello.
Okay, so you can sit inside,
but as I've got to film, I need some light.
I'm going to pull myself up one of these
little plastic chairs.
All right, so here are those crispy radish cakes.
So it's a daikon or a muli,
which has been steamed, pressed into cakes,
then deep fried in lard.
So we've got bai kapow, which is holy basil,
garlic, kapow dang, so red kapow,
a little bit more rare,
Chinese chives, so porky garlic,
and then some pickled radish.
Eggs and chili.
Ah, so here are the normal steamed cakes
without being fried in the pork fat.
All right guys, so we're gonna go for the signature dish here.
All right, so here we go.
All right, so she starts with that crispy garlic,
the cakes, a little bit of dark soy sauce,
a little bit of light soy sauce.
I haven't seen her put any sugar in, which is good,
because usually these are super sweet.
Bean sprouts, Chinese chives.
Stir fry that all up, lovely.
So it's like three times fried or three times cooked
because you've got the boiling and pressing into cakes
or the steaming and pressing into cakes.
Then you've got the deep frying, which you can see here.
Then she stir fries it again for a third time.
And you'll see this when she cracks the egg,
she kind of leaves it to char and crisp up.
Look at that, you can tell she's cracked
a few eggs in her time.
Absolute master of the trade.
This looks absolutely fantastic. Look at these. Look,
crispy on the outside, soft on the inside.
They almost, if you didn't know they were radish,
almost taste like mashed potato. To us Londoners, bubble and squeak.
We've got that beautiful egg and you can see
how she's charred that. You see the way she
cracked it and it stuck to the side of the pan and she just left it
for the perfect amount of time. The bean sprouts, everything's fresh.
Beautiful right on the table again got our usual suspects
so let's get a little bit of the dried
chili a little bit of fish sauce which is nice to see
and let's get some vinegar as well just
to cut the sweetness a little bit
and that richness of the pork fat give it a little mix up
And let's go. I've just moved this chair
and I've almost done a bed in Bangkok and just absolutely
obliterated it. The back leg just went.
It would have been very very embarrassing. I've put on a
few pounds, I'm not gonna lie. But anyway guys, I digress.
We've seasoned up our radish cake.
Time for the big bite.
That is, hands down, even after the first bite,
the best one of these I've had.
The actual cake itself, as I said, is super crispy on the outside.
And where it's been cooked in lard, and it's so soft.
I'll try and find a video of how they press the cakes
and put it up over the top so you can see.
But they're soft, almost, yeah,
like a condensed or like pressed mashed potato.
And then fried.
It's almost got like a sort of either a...
sort of roast potato kind of feel to it where the outside is so crispy
so rich from the lard but
then you've got that squidgy sort of inside
because usually they put the sweet sort of dark soy sauce
on and then throw a load of sugar on where she's used no sugar at all
so the only sweetness is
coming from that the soy sauce the light soy sauce
is giving it like a saltiness then i can add salt
with my fish sauce vinegar to cut the sweetness
and then it's just perfect like just cooked
Bean sprouts, freshness, chives, freshness, heat from the chilies.
Half a plate through, it's not difficult to see why this lady
and her family have been in business for 120 years.
Not here, though. This has been 108 years.
She said before that, her mum's or grandma,
great-grandma sold on the street.
But the business has been running for 120 years.
And unless you're producing food of this quality in a market like this,
you're going out of business long before then.
yeah it does it reminds me of bubble
and squeak for anyone who doesn't come from England we
surely have that across the whole country i'm
not even sure if it's an outside of London thing but
bubble and squeak is mashed potato
with cabbage fried basically you used to get in like greasy
spoon cafes that's exactly what this reminds me
of but just with loads more flavor
All right, it's quite hard for me to explain where
this Kanom Pagar, this snack shop is,
but it's down a little alleyway just off the market.
I'll stick a link because there is a
Google Maps pin with directions to the shop.
We'll stop here, but then I will show you,
I can't eat anymore until tonight,
but I'll show you there is one of my favorite beef noodles,
definitely in my top five beef noodle soup shops
in Bangkok right here in the market.
Really really friendly owner as well,
speaks very very good English, better than mine.
Place is always absolutely packed.
This is the speciality here guys, the brisket. I also like
getting it with the ligament, tendon.
But you can get everything in here, it's not just brisket.
If you like stomach, look at all this guys, look at all this.
I'm absolutely stuffed but I'm
looking at this and I'm going I need to be eating this, this is crazy.
The smell is insane.
If you like beef and you like the smell of beef,
that's all you can smell throughout this whole alleyway.
Just beef.
Good, nice to see you again.
Not really long time.
I know, very long time.
It's been a long time.
Two years, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Two years.
With your friend.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Let me think.
It was...
I've got to order one, guys.
I'll just get them with no noodles.
How mad's that?
I haven't been here for...
I just looked at my last video.
Two and a half years.
Yeah, the guy is so friendly.
He recognises me, obviously.
Right?
Super, super, super friendly guy.
And I've just said,
do you know what?
I will take a bowl
because it smells too good
not to take a bowl.
I don't care how full I am.
He remembered my order?
From two and a half years ago, how mad is that?
All right guys, I won't go too much into this,
but just have a look at this jiggly piece of brisket.
He also knew that I wanted some tendons as well.
And the thing I love about this place so much,
not just this lovely, beautiful, beefy broth,
it's also the fact you get loads and loads of morning glory.
Pak bong, Chinese water spinach, without having to ask for extra.
That is the one thing I wish more beef
noodle soup shops actually did in Bangkok.
All right, as I said, guys, I'm not going
to bang on about this too much.
I want to save a little bit of your attention span for dinner.
Mmm.
Just know though, this is one of the best soups you
are going to find in Bangkok. That beef is
ridiculously tender. I'm talking no resistance whatsoever.
Now I need to throw in some of this
chili vinegar because the chili vinegar here is just so good.
Really fermented, like really,
really, really fermented and that just counteracts that sweet sauce.
Oh that is almost like...
I sort of don't know like a jalapeno
or something like that it's it's crazy not that spicy it's just
you've got that sort of green peppery kind
of taste not green peppers in peppercorns
and green peppers in like capsicum
but that really really sour fermentation it's perfect.
I know I've eaten a lot of beef soup recently
which is why I'm trying to keep this
to a minimum guys
but yes if you are in Nang Luong make some room for this bad boy don't
do what I've done don't hit more than one market
in a day just do more one day.
And then maybe have dinner somewhere else.
Just do this market another day.
You could do Wang Lung another day
and just hit as much at each market as you possibly can.
Now I've got one more market to show you tonight, guys.
It's a more of an unknown local market
in the Thonburi area of Bangkok,
but they've got a really, really hot Isaan joint there.
So I'm going to go home, regroup.
Don't need to change my shirt because I'm not joking.
I smell like I've just put it on.
I'm going to grab Finley because he wants some Kor Moo Yang
and we'll see you at the market.
I'm so scared, I'm so scared, I'm so scared,
I'm so scared, I'm so scared.
How does it smell?
You can smell the gas.
Good?
Thumbs up or thumbs down, bud?
Thumbs up.
Thumbs up?
Oh, it's on gas.
All right guys, it's dinner time.
Early dinner, it's just about six o'clock,
sun is starting to set.
Now I've taken you to definitely
the least famous market on the whole video.
We're out by Bang Wa and Bang Phae MRT stations.
We're right in the middle of both.
This market is called Ton Chai Mai Kha Market.
This market translates to
Plants up market, I think, plant nursery market.
I could be wrong.
Not sure why, because they don't sell plants here,
but maybe they used to.
Anyway, it's a small, very, very local market.
And the actual reason I brought you here
is not so much to show you the market,
although it is a very good local market.
I've come to show you one dish in particular,
but we'll get a few more.
Of course, when my partner in crime found out
I was coming for Isan food, he had to come with.
All right, so you saw Finley ate some durian earlier
and now he wants more durian. He's durian obsessed.
But I'm going to show you around the market first.
Well, I'm always on him to try new things,
so I can't now moan that because I fed
him some durian and he actually liked it,
I'm going to have to buy some. Alena?
I want lollipops.
Oh, lollipops.
I'm going to let Finley walk around and I'll just walk behind him,
show you a few different things.
I just want to show you this one spot.
If you're down here in this area during the day
and you like fish cakes or just, it's
a khao gang shop, so it's a curry rice stall.
The best fish cakes I've personally ever eaten,
unbelievable, 100 year old.
Not in this market, obviously.
So during the day, this is Khao Gang Taatian.
And these are the bad boys you need to come and get.
Unbelievable.
All right, this lady's super, super busy all the time.
This is patongko, Chinese doughnut, Thai crullers.
All right, Finley's correcting me, they're Thai churros.
And she also does buoloi,
which is sticky rice flour balls,
and also got some other bits and pieces.
Local legend.
So in the middle here, there's a place to sit down
and then there's stalls just all around.
There is a lot of food here.
Pretty good food as well.
But we're going to head over to the back.
There's this eat san joint I want to show you
over at the back.
I'll show you a few more stalls in here.
They've also got at the back, fresh fruit and vegetables,
a lot of Burmese ingredients here as well,
which is pretty cool if you're cooking Burmese food.
See, Finley doesn't have the same problem as me.
I'm really indecisive.
Whereas he'll just see the first thing he sees, he gets,
then the second thing, the third thing, the fourth thing.
Before you know it, we've got 50 bags of food.
We've got .
Again, like we saw this morning,
but she does loads of different stuff.
Waiti au kai.
Chicken noodle soup, lots of fried pork, lots of desserts.
It's just the stuff you usually find in the markets.
They've even got a burger stall here.
They've done handmade burgers and they're cheap as well.
They've got a really good stir-fry shop here.
Does everything.
Southern food, central food, pad thai, everything.
Finley's favorite desserts.
Come on, toy.
So that Finley's favorite little coconut puddings here, guys.
Bye-bye.
There you go.
Yes, as you can see, guys, they've got loads of stuff here.
They've also got a really good seafood section at the back
where actually you can just pick your prawns.
They sell prawns and squid and all sorts.
They're really good seafood sauce here.
And then you can get them grilled up.
Then you can get them grilled up
and you can just sit down and eat them here.
So we might actually get some of those in a set.
All right, so they've got salt-crusted fish.
I mean, that's actually really, really good value.
440.
440 baht for the massive ones per kilo.
360 baht for the smaller ones.
per kilo all grilled up for you unbelievable yeah
so you come to these more local markets where
there's no tourists and everything is just super super cheap
or at least good value you know i
wasn't here for the prawns but they're going
to do me half a kilo for 200 baht so i can't turn that
down all right finley's about to kill me
if we don't sit down um and the isan shop
It's just here.
All right, it's called Jie Ni Jim Jum.
Jim Jum is the Isan hot pot, which they sell here,
which we're not going to get.
We are going to get Yam Woon Sen,
glass noodle salad with seafood.
One of the dishes I probably eat the most in Thailand
or have eaten the most in Thailand.
And for some reason, looking over all of my videos,
I don't think I've ever shown it on the channel.
So today is that day.
all right so we'll get one of these oh look
at this maybe some gai yang as well more salt baked fish
look they've got the meat grilling over charcoal
see proper they're using palm sugar here look no
garbage look 100 percent low percent look
at this let everything laid out proper lime juice
no garbage decent dried shrimp you'll definitely
tie all right we didn't come for this but we had
to get it because it's just the best thing ever grilled pork jowl oh
What's your name?
Well do you know what, from first glance of that,
I should have known because I had this in a salad
last week, I was not expecting it to be that soft,
that is unbelievable.
And the little dipping sauce,
this is a jowl but with heavy on the tamarind and you can see
they've put khao khua, toasted sticky rice,
which they've toasted themselves obviously.
Notice I'm not saying tamarind anymore,
tamarind, I got told off too many times.
Ah, okay, I need my pen for Finley.
So Finley's got sweet corn som tam with no chili.
All right, it's a little bit dark here, guys,
but I am gonna try and show you what I've got.
So wun sen means mung bean noodle
or cellophane noodle, glass noodle,
and it comes with minced pork, fresh seafood.
So we've got some prawns and we've got some squid,
and we've also got mu yo, Vietnamese sausage,
some Chinese celery,
Some red onion all in this zingy spicy dressing.
Now usually it actually comes with hot dogs in as
well but I came here about two weeks ago
and ordered it with no hot dogs and she's remembered
I don't want a hot dog so.
I've also ordered a sweet corn salad but with chili. Now really I
should have just ordered one sweet corn salad
and then got my own chili on the side. So what we've
got here peanuts, dried shrimp.
I love the fact they've left the lime in just to let you know
they're using fresh lime juice
and you can give it an extra squeeze if you want it.
peanuts garlic green beans loads of chili look
at that again super super spicy dressing or sauce
all right guys let's give this a try second time
i've come here in two weeks this is exactly like
the first time i ordered it
which is why i came here in the first place today it's usually
This dish is quite sweet, quite a lot of sugar in it
but when I ordered it from here a couple of weeks
ago it wasn't sweet and I forgot to say not sweet
and it didn't come sweet so I was like wow
she's doing exactly how I like it
but I wasn't sure if it was just a one-off but I've come again
today it's super super garlicky very very salty zingy
from the lime juice there is
sweetness there
but not a lot of it that for me is the perfect version of this salad.
It's absolutely protein packed as well
because you get a little spoonful of
minced pork with every bite.
So this is actually my go-to dish when I'm at any hotel by the beach
because it's the dish that they seem
to mess up the least when you're at hotels.
Right we'll try
a bit of this ridiculously spicy looking sweet corn
salad. This one's sweeter because she's used
quite a lot of palm sugar
but it's a nice sort of rounded sweetness. It's not like harsh
white sugar sweetness. I was talking to someone about this yesterday.
Too many times now I'm
corners because obviously prices are going up
so they're not even using palm sugar now they're just
using like nam chum which is syrup out of a packet
and i just can't have it this is really really sour
again which i don't mean in a bad way perfect for
my personal taste really out of turn all right i
completely forgot i've got half a kilo of prawns
to eat as well i wish on entry to thailand they
taught farang how to open these bags right i'm
not going to go through this again because i've
said it too many times on my channel
with this my friends is nam chum syrup
Seafood sauce. We've got a nice big head to suck as well.
This is a river prawn. We'll suck the head
before we go in with the body.
I love the charred flavour you get from the grilled shells.
It's amazing.
I'm actually going to spoon this out you know.
Leave none of that
juice behind. Right, now the real test.
How dry are these bodies? That's the question.
You like them dry? No, I like them moist and just cooked. We will see.
Right it's a big boy look
at that it's a proper big boy.
Into the seafood sauce.
Thank the lord
they are just cooked through these are absolutely fantastic.
I wouldn't say they're as good as the
ones I had at Kallapuram market
but they're better than the ones I had at the famous seafood market
at Thornbury marketplace.
Look at that piece of meat there guys.
Finley's gonna see us out with
his favorite pudding. Now rate that out of ten mate.
I say this from every one of my
All right, guys, I'm going to enjoy the rest of my food.
Let me know in the comment section below
which was your favorite market of today.
I think this is actually my favorite market out the lot.
Nice, local, prices are good, and the food, absolutely amazing.
Let me know if there's any other markets you want me to go
and see or any other 24-hour food
challenges or just food days you want to see.
Leave that in the comment section below and I
will get that done. That's about it from us today
so we will see you in the next one. We out!
