Five explosions rocked Iran's Qeshm Island near the Strait of Hormuz,
with more blasts reported
in the nearby port city of Bondar Lenja.
The explosions came just hours after US President
Donald Trump signaled that a deal with Tehran could be within reach.
Iran's state media also
reported two aircraft flying over Qeshm,
but the cause of the blasts remains unknown.
No official confirmation of an airstrike
or US-Israeli involvement has emerged.
Videos circulating on social media appear
to show sirens blaring before loud explosions
were heard across Kesham Island.
The footage has not been independently verified. Initial
reports suggested that an air defense system may have been targeted,
but Iranian authorities have not confirmed that assessment.
Residents have been urged
to rely on official information as uncertainty surrounds the incident.
The explosions come amid heightened military tensions around
the strategic waterway.
Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has claimed
that it brought down two American MQM-170
reconnaissance drones over southern Qeshm Island
using electronic warfare systems. The IRGC said
the latest incident took the number
of such American drones captured by Iran to four. Tehran
had also previously claimed to have shot down
an MQ-9 drone east of the Strait of Hormuz.
Meanwhile, Trump has renewed hopes of a diplomatic breakthrough,
saying Tehran is keen to end the conflict.
In a post on Truth Social, he claimed oil prices had fallen sharply
because markets expected there would be no war with Iran.
Trump added that Iran wanted a settlement as soon as possible,
saying a deal could happen.
U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance has
also expressed optimism about the possibility
of a negotiated settlement.
Speaking to reporters, Vance said both he and Trump felt positive about
the prospects of reaching an agreement with Tehran.
He added that the two sides had made
some progress, although the details
of any potential understanding remain unclear.
Despite the diplomatic signals,
concerns over renewed military action remain.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu
has reportedly urged Washington to consider
another round of strikes against Iran after Tuesday's
U.S. midterm elections.
The reported push comes as the region remains on edge,
with the latest explosions adding fresh
uncertainty around the Strait of Hormuz.
The latest developments come on the eve of the U.S. midterm elections,
adding another layer of pressure to Washington's diplomatic
and military calculations.
While Trump is signaling that a settlement may be possible,
the explosions in southern Iran remain unexplained.
For now, there is no official confirmation of who
or what caused the blasts.
And oil today is down $10,
which is the biggest drop in oil in history.
Thank you very much.
has gone down that much, down $10,
and it's going to go down a lot further because we're
winning with Iran, easily winning.
Their Navy is gone. Their Air Force is gone,
playing all over the runways of Iran in little pieces.
The anti-aircraft, their missile capacity
is way down, and their missile building capacity is way down.
And they have no money, and they have
The only thing they have is the highest inflation.
In the last 15 years for any country, over 300% inflation,
and they want to make a deal, and that could happen.
The United States is truly the greatest threat
to the nuclear non-proliferation regime.
Making a threat against a country,
even an implicit threat that a certain weapon might be used,
is itself a form of encouragement
to violate the non-proliferation treaty.
In any case, other nuclear weapon states
are carefully monitoring America's behavior.
America is creating a pattern at the international level whose result
is a threat to international peace and security for all countries.
At the decision-making level, we remain a member of the NPT,
and as long as Iran is a member of the
NPT, it considers itself bound by and obligated
to observe the commitments set out in that document.
It is not far-fetched to assume that some
in the US ruling administration have concluded,
even if they do not say so, or some do,
that America is sacrificing its wealth, credibility
and standing for a party that thinks
of nothing other than permanent war in our region.
The Zionist regime has proven that it considers
its own survival conditional on the continuation
of war and bloodshed in the region.
According to international law, as well as human reason,
any party that participates in any way in the preparation,
design, and execution of military
aggression against a country is considered
a participant in an internationally wrongful act
and, as a matter of course,
must pay the price and accept the consequences.
Therefore, any party that accompanies the United States
and the Zionist regime in any
aggression must not assume it is safe
from the harm of Iran's decisive response.
The ball is in America's court
because our demands have been expressed very clearly and
transparently.
Our demands are reasonable and logical.
No final agreement can begin,
and the Strait of Hormuz cannot be reopened or safe,
unless the U.S. naval blockade ends,
Iran's demands are respected and Iran's legitimate
requests are implemented,
then we can talk about continuing the process.
We are currently in the stage
of talks through intermediaries to advance Iran's demands.
At this stage, everything depends on whether the other side,
the American side that started this dirty game,
fulfills Iran's demands and conditions.
Then we must talk about the next steps.
What the United States must do in the first stage is,
first of all, lift all sanctions
imposed against Iran under
the title Economic Outcast Operation after the violation of the
Islamabad Agreement, in addition to what they had accepted
in that text, including the release
of Iran's properties and assets.
I want to emphasize that because they sometimes manipulate
the facts and say Iran has set
preconditions regarding diplomatic matter.
There is no change in the composition of the negotiating team.
The Honorable Secretary
of the Supreme National Security Council, Mohsen Rezaei,
expressed the matter very clearly concerning
the process of managing the country's diplomacy
and the fact that the Supreme National
Security Council manages this task.
When we say the Supreme National Security Council,
we also mean the Honorable President as the head
of the Supreme National Security Council,
the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as a member,
And other pillars of the system that have a role
and position in the Supreme National Security
Council. Our negotiator is Mr. Kalibaf,
as the Honorable Minister of Foreign Affairs also
announced
in his interview yesterday.
