Hey everyone, it's Deja from CrochetEverAfter.com and today I'm going
to do a review on the Haven For Hands Crochet Hook Set.
So I got this from the Haven For Hands people,
they sent this to me for free so I could give an honest review of it.
You can check them out
at HavenForHands.com or at the Amazon link below.
But let's look inside and see what we get.
So this is the bag it comes in, it's got a cute little logo.
And the travel case that it comes with is a very thick,
sturdy canvas, looks very well
made, well sewn, doesn't look like it's going to fray
or come apart, and it's got a button
closure.
This holds our whole set, and we've got a couple of extra goodies.
So the price for this is amazing.
So these are actually rubberized handles.
So it's not just an aluminum set,
but it actually has the ergonomic rubberized handles.
And they're about a quarter of the price of the Clover set.
Plus, you get extra goodies that do not come in the Clover set.
The Clover Amour is what I'm referring to,
the ones that I also own and use regularly.
So, I wanted to see how these compare,
because the Clover set is quite expensive.
So, if you really want to try out ergonomic handles without paying
a huge price, this is probably a really good option.
But, let me try them out and let you know what I think,
if they're going to be a good option for you.
Okay, and then when we open this up, we have all of our hooks.
We have nine hooks total,
so we have all the way from a B US B 2mm up to a 6mm US J,
and this green one here is the elusive 4.5mm, or the 7 hook.
So whenever you see a crochet hook that's calling for a 7 hook,
this is what it's talking about. It's not talking about a 7mm.
I don't know why this is a 7 in the rest of the letters.
I'm going to have to look that up and see what the history on that is.
Then we have our little extras,
which is in this very convenient built-in bag.
And there's even a little pocket here on this side
for whatever you may want to put in there.
Get some money in there
and make this a little to-go wallet with your crochet items.
But the zipper pouch is very convenient
to add extra notions that you may also want.
But this comes with quite a few, maybe a...
It would be good for a gauge checker. That would fit really well there.
But we have some locking stitch markers.
Those are my favorite kind of stitch markers.
Very easy to remove and replace.
A retractable tape measure and some folding scissors,
which are always handy when you don't want
to stab yourself when you're trying to find
those in your bag. So it comes with those three goodies
on top of the hooks and the case.
All for a fantastic price that you can check out below on the link.
Then, let's do a comparison.
So I'm going to show you a Clover Amore hook compared
to the hooks that we have here.
Let me show you the side-by-side
with the Clover Amore.
So this one is a Clover Amore.
It's an H 5 millimeter.
So this set comes with, let's see, the size range.
We have these are also marked at the bottom.
So we have a B 2mm all the way up probably to a J 6mm, yep, J 6mm,
so B to J, kind of the normal set size, and then there should
be a 5mm, here's our H 5mm, so these are the two side by side,
so you can see that the handles are slightly different.
The rubber...
This one has more of a smooth feeling, the Clover Amore.
The rubber on the Haven for Hands is a little bit more grippy,
so depending on what you
like, it's a little bit grippier.
The edges are a little bit rougher,
you can see where they are joined, but I don't think
that's really a big deal,
I don't think that really takes away from the fact that...
The price of this set.
So the length of the hooks looks almost identical. I believe it's five
and a half inches and then you can see the actual hook tip.
So these have the same type of pointy tip. This is the clover.
It's a little bit madder. This is a little bit shinier,
but they both seem to be very smooth on the shaft.
So they should crochet pretty much identically.
And then this probably has just a little bit more of, because
of how it kind of comes out and goes in, a little bit friendlier hold,
because it's a little bit fatter down here where it rests in your palm.
So that might be a little bit of a difference in the ergonomics of it.
And I'm going to go ahead and start using these and try them out,
see how well the yarn slides, what I like,
what I don't like about it, and I'll give you my assessment.
Once I have used them for a couple of days,
so I've been working with these hooks for a couple of weeks now
And I've used quite a few of them you can see
Some of them missing because I've been working on projects with them
and they are around the house in various places
but the
overall
Opinion of these is that they're great.
They have absolutely no difference in the actual hook
Feeling to me from the Clover Amour or the Clover Soft Touch,
they slide very easily through my yarn.
I don't get caught.
There's no burrs, no ridges, nothing for it to get caught on.
The rubberized handle is very well attached to the hook,
so I made an entire scarf shawl out of one of my hooks,
and it took me a good two weeks with it,
and I didn't have any kind of problem with the handle coming off.
So that might have been someone's concern
because these are so well-priced that maybe
they were made cheaply, but I have not found that to be an issue.
I don't think that they were,
I think they are just a very great hook for the price.
So I would definitely recommend these if you
were wanting to get the rubberized-type handle
but you can't afford the Clover Amour,
these are definitely a great alternative to those.
If you've bought these and you've used them,
let us know what you think.
Tell me if you've been using them for a while, how they're holding up.
