20 degrees Fahrenheit outside
and has been snowing for the past four days but we're still bringing
you an awesome review with an absolutely amazing vehicle
and this is a pretty rare vehicle here in
the United States. It is a wagon
and not just any wagon this is the all-new Mercedes AMG E53 wagon
and it is quite a special treat
and as you know here in the United States wagons just aren't that
that popular and
They're extremely hard to find.
One that has just left the market just a few years ago
is the Jaguar XF Sportbrake,
and barely any of those were made.
Thankfully, today we get things like the M5 wagon
as well as the RS6 Avant slash wagon.
And thankfully, Mercedes is still building a wagon,
but we can only get it here in the United States
in either this E53 flavor or the all-terrain flavor
where it is lifted up off the ground with just the inline six.
But as you may know, this is a plug-in hybrid,
and it is a quick plug-in hybrid with over 600 horsepower.
And I have to say, driving this vehicle over the course
of the week in both dry and snowy conditions,
it does everything just so well.
It really does combine those gorgeous wagon looks
with that kind of classic old-money-esque style
that you get from a Mercedes product with a loads amount of luxury,
high-tech luxury, classic luxury,
all combined into one package.
This is a special vehicle,
and even at an almost fully loaded price here of around $117,000,
I actually can't believe I'm saying this, but I think it's
a pretty decent value in today's high-end luxury wagon market
because there really is not much left in terms
of options here in the United States.
So let's go dive in. I'm going to do a full tour in-depth
and review for you guys of all the amazing features of this vehicle,
some of the things we like, some of the things we dislike,
and of course, how this vehicle drives and handles out on the road.
Let's go dive in.
So guys, what do we have going on under the hood of this E53 wagon?
Well, there's a lot.
As it is a plug-in hybrid, we have some
really interesting stuff going on here.
So it all starts out with Mercedes' AMG Enhanced 3-liter inline-six.
Now, this, of course, has one big turbo on it,
and it's making around 21 PSI of boost, which is pretty cool to see.
And, of course, this is their famous, you know, beltless engine,
even though we do have a built starter
generator integrated with this whole system.
But we're just getting started around here.
This engine alone makes around 440-ish horsepower, pretty respectable.
But as this is a plug-in hybrid,
we do have an electric motor sandwiched between the gearbox,
the 9-speed AMG Speed Shift gearbox,
and of course, going power to all four wheels in
this particular 4MATIC, plus all-wheel drive system,
which is very dynamic in that sense.
Combined, this whole package is making around 577 horsepower.
But since we have the AMG Dynamic package,
in race start mode, your kind of launch control mode,
it can boost it up to 604 horsepower.
Keep in mind, this is an E53, not an E63. Really impressive
figures coming out of this vehicle.
And again, since it is a plug-in hybrid, you can drive on
pure EV mode. And it can do around 40 to 50 miles
of electric-only range from this around
21 to 22 kilowatt hour usable battery pack
which is located towards the rear of the vehicle that's
really impressive and in EV mode you get around 130 140 ish horsepower
in that range right there
but if you really needed to if you really wanted
to you can actually DC fast charge this plug-in
hybrid which is a very rare thing amongst plug-in hybrids
and it can charge from around zero or 10
or 20 to up to 80 and around 20 to 30 minutes up
to 60 kilowatts we just tested this out yesterday
it literally did it um and we have around almost 50 miles
of pure electric range which is just
absolutely absurd in a plug-in hybrid
that especially is a performance plug-in hybrid
This is a true daily...
vehicle in that regard.
And also, since we have the AMG Dynamic package, we're also getting
dynamic engine mounts in this vehicle,
which kind of use a sort of magnetic-style technology to
adjust their stiffness, depending
on the different drive modes or different conditions
of this vehicle as well. So there is quite a lot, like I mentioned,
of stuff going on under the hood, under the skin of this E53 wagon.
Now of course on the visual front for this E53 wagon,
every single one of them is starting out
as an AMG style package.
So that means you are getting this more iconic, you know, Panamericana
style front AMG grille with the big vertical slots in front of it
and the more overall aggressive
body styling. But of course you can get this in quite
a few different ways. For example, this one
is getting the quite gorgeous
but rather basic Moonlight Manufacture White Metallic paint finish
There's quite a different few paint options you can actually get
on this vehicle, which is quite nice.
We're also getting on this one the AMG Night Package.
Now, there's also a Night Package Plus,
but this one is kind of like a mid-level blacked-out trim package.
It doesn't go full-on blacked out, so we're still getting this bright
chromework trim piece around the front grille over here for this one.
But, you know, the more darker elements around that,
as well as our lower bumper area over here, all of that kind of gets...
darked out trim including our side mirrors as well.
Coming over to this front end here there's
a lot of other really crazy stuff going on up here.
So we have the upgraded Mercedes digital
light package here so this will project either two different styles
of wake-up patterns on a
wall in front of you when you turn on the vehicle
so it'll either say Mercedes AMG or just a
different style pattern there which looks
So cool.
But these can also project warning signals onto
the road in front of the vehicle while
driving in certain scenarios as well.
You can turn on that or off within the vehicle as well.
Really impressive features there
with these lights, and they're very bright at night.
Overall, styling-wise, on the front end,
this vehicle is just absolutely gorgeous.
Joining me over on the side of this E53 wagon,
we have some really cool stuff going on with the
wheels as well. So again, lots
of different wheel choices you can choose from. These are the
particular 21-inch forged AMG wheels,
which I think look very tasteful against this white paint
finish. Now again, since we have the AMG Dynamic Plus package,
we're getting some really spicy
stuff up here as well.
We have the upgraded brakes, which are over 15 inches versus the
around 14 inch other brakes on this vehicle
and these ones are of course
Cross-drilled, and they have these really gigantic
six-piston AMG-branded red calipers up front here.
I will say, over the course of these weeks,
these brakes are very effective when you need to come to a stop,
but they are a little bit grabby and touchy
in pretty much every slow-speed situation I've noticed
over the course of this week.
And they also actually have to work in coordination
with this plug-in hybrid system, which actually has...
Regenerative braking, there's like two to three
to four levels of regenerative braking
when you're using EV mode on this vehicle and honestly
I've actually found that to be a little bit of a smoother way
to come to a stop in some scenarios when the vehicle is in
Pure electric mode and this particular E53 since it is winter,
snowing, icy and a mess out
We do have Michelin Pilot Alpine rubber on here
Which actually has been proven to be quite nice in all kind
of traction scenarios over the course of this week
Now, of course, as a wagon,
I think this looks absolutely gorgeous of a vehicle.
It's long, it's low, it's wide.
It has a really nice presence on the road.
And of course, with all the AMG bits, it looks even nicer.
Out back here, we have a little bit of this integrated lip spoiler
on the upper portion of our rear tailgate.
And on back here, we have these black gloss roof rails as well,
including a massive panoramic glass roof that has two sunshades.
We also are getting around 2.5 degrees of rear wheel steering as well.
And of course, back here, we are getting all
the cool little AMG bits as well.
So we have a red highlighted E53 badge.
We have our AMG badge as well.
And coming down here,
we are getting quad exhaust tips with AMG print on them
in this kind of dark gunmetal style finish there,
which looks quite tasteful and nice.
And of course, this absolutely colossal rear trunk space back here.
We have a power rear tailgate, of course, in this vehicle.
And this is where wagons, I just think, are just such a good option.
Now, you can get an E53 sedan in the United States,
which obviously will,
but this just increases the cargo space by such a large amount.
And that vehicle in the sedan,
it's around 13.1 cubic feet of cargo space.
In this vehicle, it's over 30 cubic feet of cargo space, of course.
thanks to this larger wagon design
and this is a really cool back end we have a nice cargo cover
over here which slides down we
also are getting a cargo net over here which is in this particular
case is holding our charging cable box
but you're going to notice there's a little bit of a lip
coming up here that's because the hybrid system
is actually taking up a lot of the space on the floor
section of this vehicle
so in other countries where you can actually get a normal E-Class wagon
you're actually going to get even more cargo space back here
which is pretty crazy because they won't
a giant hybrid battery in the back.
Nonetheless, this is still a very usable space
and a really cool space.
We have LED lighting in the upper portions over here.
We also have buttons to fold down our second row seats.
And when you do fold down that second row seats,
you're now gonna get over 60 cubic feet of cargo space.
This is why you don't even need an SUV, guys.
Just go get a wagon.
But as much as I can preach to that,
here in the United States,
wagons still just don't sell too particularly much.
okay guys let's go hop in the rear seats now
of this E53 AMG wagon now hopping in the rear as
you can see we do have our pop-out Mercedes door handles
and i like how these door handles actually
have um keyless access on all four doors
so you can lock and unlock them from all four doors
which is really nice and i found out this morning
that they do indeed break through sheets of ice
which is a pretty nice thing to see they illuminate
at night which is really gorgeous
And of course, say Mercedes-Benz on the top portion over there.
But let's open up this door, see how wide it opens up.
Wow, that's actually a pretty large,
wide door opening for this E-Class wagon.
And all that means for us is getting in and out
of the vehicle is going to be pretty easy to do.
Now, let's go take a look at this gorgeous cabin.
Okay, guys, stepping inside.
A little bit of a step in over here, which is interesting.
Getting inside, again, is pretty easy, as I mentioned.
Let's close up our door over here.
We have a little pull over here.
Nice solid door thunk and this one does not get the soft close option.
You can actually option
that in if you would like and we're going
to start off on this door panel because it is
absolutely drop-dead gorgeous. So what's going on on here?
Well you're going to see we have
the black and almost like white gray leather interior option.
This is the Napa upgraded
leather interior option and on the door itself you're going
to notice we have a little wild
interior ambient lighting up here around
this you know kind of door opening binnacle over here and
gloss black but it is surrounded by real metal
so I'm not going to be too complaining there and
the door handle pulls again are also real metal.
We also are getting lock unlock switches over here
and they feel quite nice to operate and close
and check out our upgraded Burmester speaker over here
of course in metal curved into the shape of the door
and even our controls and everything back
here nice real metal all this is metal trim as well.
This is where Mercedes really is you know kind
of winning right now in the German industry. Their
interiors are top notch.
We do get some cheaper materials down here but it's not scratchy hard
plastic actually. It's more of a soft
touch squishy material which actually
I really like.
And we're getting our own little air vent back here as well,
which is a very nice touch.
Upper portion of here, we have one hanger.
We have two hangers.
We have a grab handle over here, a touch-activated reading light LED,
and another accessory hook panel right back there.
And of course, in addition to all these accessories,
I have quite a lot of space back here.
So, yes, I have a good, decent amount of foot space back here.
Leg space is really impressive just to do how long this vehicle is.
And you can see, we even have some ambient lighting
down there as well, which is a nice touch.
And behind of these backs of these seats,
we are getting storage cubbies on both the back
of the driver and passenger side,
which is a nice touch actually.
And this center console panel over here
is definitely quite interesting.
This is the only area where I found some cheaper,
harder plastics, but Mercedes always seems to do this
on all of their vehicles actually.
But I like this design here for these air vents,
which actually feel quite nice.
And we have a whole little climate panel that speaks,
I believe, showing us some sort
air quality sensor in the center but this one does not appear to have
heated rear seats which is an interesting omission
but we do have a lot of nice
Climate controls back here
and these seats themselves are just really both a cool looking
and be very comfortable in the rear seats.
So again, this is the two-tone black Nappa over
this kind of gray white style design
in here.
Really cool design over here.
Lots of nice stitching.
They are perforated as well.
And I think this is all to distract you
from the absolutely colossal center drivetrain
hump we have down here.
Of course.
Plug-in hybrid system, all-wheel drive, lots of stuff going on.
So you kind of need this here,
but it definitely does impede your rear passenger space.
And of course, we have Isofix anchor
points back here for some child seats.
Popping open our center armrest over here.
Nice and squishy, soft leather.
Opening up this, we have one level here for some phone holders.
And pop it open again, we're going to get two big cup holders
that do kind of do this little collapsible seat design over here.
It looks almost like a folding chair,
actually, of how this is designed.
Really cool little touch there.
They just slide right back
into this little center armrest binacle as well over here
with a nice little leather strap on that piece as well.
But this is a really gorgeous rear seat.
and it's all aided by these absolutely colossal pieces
of glass up here so we have
both one front panel for the driver
and front passenger and another colossal panel for us
back here and both of them have
their own individual shades that do indeed
close when you would like them to be closed
and just in this front cabin area over here
we're getting the same wonderful door design
as we saw out back so not much to kind of
discussed there you can also see some additional
ambient light strips down there as well and of
course this one is getting
these really nice illuminated aluminum AMG side sill plates over
here and have a quick look
at these multi-contour seats up front over here and again there's a
different seat option in addition to these particular ones
but these are actually quite
nice and comfortable hopping inside just as easy
to get into the rear pretty large and wide opening
Nice solid door thunk.
Some AMG sounds welcome us into this cabin and let's start it up
and see what's going on in this E53 wagon.
since this has the pinnacle package we have
the super screen package um it really is quite decked
out and there's a lot to get into now
and this left hand panel over here into typical Mercedes
fashion we're getting of course
our um headlight control switch over here some gloss black on this
upper portion but all this is trimmed in real metal
and this whole other piece over here is
trimmed in metal which looks absolutely gorgeous
of course this entire driver's zone over here is
intense um we have the upgraded AMG
steering wheel over here since we have
the AMG Dynamic Plus Pack on this one which means we have a split
leather and um Alcantara micro suede portion over here which I
necessarily and not always the biggest fan of it kind
of gets a little matted. We are also getting
these massive metal paddle shifters
which double both as for your manual modes as well as for our
regenerative braking when we are in EV mode
which we are actually in right now which is pretty cool
and since this is an AMG product we get of course
the AMG design wheel which means we get
these little pods down here to control all
of our different drive modes.
And there are an endless amount in this particular cabin.
So if I touch this panel over here,
it'll open up the full drive mode page over here.
Or I can just kind of, you know, turn this and just quickly select
through all of our different drive mode settings over here.
And when you go into sport, for example,
it turns on the engine instantly.
Same thing with sport plus.
So the engine will always be on in those modes.
And of course, on the left-hand panel over here,
we can adjust some other fun settings over here.
So I have it set up right now to be our dampers.
So we have a few different damper adjustments.
Our kind of...
fake engine sound the AMG you know performance
engine sound you can turn on and off here
or you can customize these to be really whatever you want we're getting
our absolutely colossal
um heads-up display in this particular vehicle
as well it is huge it displays quite a lot of
information and you can see all of the different designs we have
for a heads-up display over here
we've been getting a race a track pace version
um so yeah this is pretty intense speaking of said
binnacle this is also incredibly customizable
as we know in all Mercedes products this is the more
traditional gauge view you can swipe through
the center panel over here to see just see how many
different endless amount of options you have
or you can kind of switch it to be whatever you want
from service or assistance drive mode over here
so you can see your assistance view for our um
Adaptive driving systems, we have a navigation system pop up here.
We have a sport mode gauge, which is really cool looking, very dynamic.
And of course, the super sport page as well, which is kind of cool.
You can kind of, again, cycle through the center portion over here.
Now, since we have the upgraded super
screen panel over here, as you can see,
we're getting both the passenger display over
there, which we'll have a look at in a bit.
This colossal center touchscreen system
and even the full really high definition interior camera
system up here which is doing quite a lot of stuff actually.
So we have our AMG panel here so this
will open up on those drive modes we were just looking
at before that kind of helps you kind of
cycle through that stuff easier if you want to get to it.
We have a quick access to our charging page
over here so this is where you can kind
of see some charging information, set some charging
schedules. Of course we have another panel over here
for some quick access functions which you
Which you can also always access by swiping down.
We even have a thing.
fingerprint sensor in this vehicle
which you can set up to kind of configure driver profiles as
well which is really cool and a little volume adjustment here.
No physical dial though and of
course we can do that via our steering wheel adjustment
and of course we can control this
infotainment system via our steering wheel adjustment
as well. This center panel over
here is gorgeous. You can get
this in a few different trim options. This one is kind of
like mesh aluminum trim with the AMG badge on top of it
which is really nice and I like how this
This whole center panel over here is stitched soft touch material.
material ambient light strip going all around this piece
and we can open up this center panel
over here to reveal our two cup holders you can push
this down to open up that second cup holder
over here we have two high power USB-C ports
a little place for your key if the battery is running
low to place it to start the vehicle
and then our wireless charging mat which i don't like um
because if you have stuff in your cup holders over here
and you need to you know just leave the cup
in there get out of the vehicle
or something it's just impossible to get your phone in and out of there
And it gets a little bit hot in here.
I believe it's ventilated.
but it does still get a little bit toasty in your phone area over there
but I do like how this opens
and closes nice and neat and tight right up over here
which is really nice and our center armrests
over here which are very nice and well trimmed are heated
so both panels are heated in this
particular vehicle.
press open this little button they open
in the fan style we have quite a lot of nice storage in
here which is felt lined again another two USB-C ports over here
and a little slot for a USB stick
for all of our stuff that can be had
in this infotainment system as well which is quite nice
now also these panels over here are also heated
for the both front driver and passenger and they're
actually nice and warm right now
which is very nice now again coming over to this center touch
screen over here very familiar software we've seen
from Mercedes you could have it in this normal view
if you hold down your home button,
and you can go to the zero layer view,
which is a little bit more high tech.
I don't actually really like this view.
I've always just kept the Mercedes test vehicles we have
in this more traditional classic view.
I think it's a little bit easier to navigate,
but it's pretty simple to use in general day-to-day basis.
Our climate systems are always on this lower panel over here
as you can see.
Getting to the main menu here, you can open this up
and this one has so many insane options in here.
this is just a little taste of some of the apps
over here actually.
like I mentioned, we have an interior camera,
which we can actually use.
so you'll see me filming in just a second here.
So you can take some selfies in there,
record a video, pretty cool stuff.
But what's even crazier is if you scroll over,
you can actually take Microsoft Teams meeting calls
in your vehicle now with this camera, which is absolutely wild.
And you can even watch things like Disney Plus
or listen to an audio book or browse YouTube.
Heck, you can even go into Spotify and natively in the system
or open up a web browser in this vehicle as well.
And I actually had it up.
Open to the E53 page here if it loads in just a second
and once it does load it actually is a
really really quick software to use in this web browser system here
so you can build your E53
in your E53 if you really did want to which
is kind of a fun little feature there but again
there's just so many settings in this vehicle
and the built-in functions are just wild so
for our seats for example we have massage
so there's all these different massage
settings for our both front driver and passenger seats up here.
Also in this vehicle, we have
a more traditional style glove box over here,
which is actually quite large.
You can see our fragrance is located in here. It is
Illuminated, of course, as well, which is quite nice.
That is a lockable style glove box in this particular cabin.
Up over here, we have a nice frameless style rear view mirror.
No cameras.
The German cars typically don't seem
to do these camera style rear view mirrors just yet,
we do have HomeLink integrated in here for your garage controls.
And of course, this giant LED ambient lit upper panel over here
is where we can be able to control our sunshades over here.
So if I swipe forward,
you can see we'll have our two sunshades come to a close,
both for each different panel.
of glass in this upper portion over here,
which is just a wonderfully awesome touch.
Now if you don't choose this super screen display,
which I actually would not choose
it, because the regular design is even cooler,
you get this really nice panel of either wood
or a different trim up here,
and there's one where there's an illuminated inlaid piece
of the wood of the AMG badge,
which I think looks way better than having a passenger screen
Over here and all this kind of fingerprint
um attracting surfaces you can just touch
to activate it turn on over here
when there is a passenger in the seat
and it essentially is a full infotainment system just
repeated in this screen over here
and it is actually probably the most intense passenger
screen I have ever seen. You can have different driver profiles
or I guess passenger profiles
over here for different passengers in the vehicle.
You can connect the Bluetooth devices to it and
you can even adjust things like the volume
and all that fun stuff. But you can open up navigation
independently from your main screen over here.
You can use the radio. There's even
built-in media over here from a USB stick or Bluetooth.
you can even look at your own separate apps
and you pretty much have every single of the same
panels of you have in the system again in here
from the massage to the seat controls to the
full ambient lighting of the interior you can look
at your AMG pages up here while the driver
is driving this is very really cool actually at the end of the day
and i think this is the best
use of a passenger display i've seen
in every vehicle audi's is okay it doesn't go
extensive with this one
and bmw does not do really passenger displays whatsoever but
But you can see, you can even watch Disney+.
You can watch it.
YouTube, connect your headphones on here.
You can go onto the web browser and configure your vehicle.
It's just really quite intense.
You can even have all the rest of the MB apps from a few different
games. You can play with the interior camera over here.
So now you can see for this screen,
I'm over here from the interior camera
and it doesn't even pop up on this screen as well.
So it really has a full in-depth software system built into this
passenger display over here, which I think is really, really cool.
Popping it into reverse,
we'll immediately access our camera system over here.
We also have full parking assistance in this vehicle,
which actually works quite well.
And the camera views, again, are pretty impressive.
Full, really high-definition 360 cameras all
the way around the vehicle, as you could imagine.
And, of course, this all works in drive as well.
Setting off into drive,
and you can see we are starting off here in electric mode.
So, in electric mode, the vehicle is quite...
quiet as one would expect i really love this energy flow
and all these data screens you have
in this system over here is really impressive
to see what's going on with these systems
and we have regenerative braking mode
so pulling my left paddle shifter down will
go into a minus state which has a little bit more
of an increased regenerative braking effect
Crazy for a plug-in hybrid vehicle.
So if I let off the gas right here,
you start feeling it slow down,
pop it into this mid-level here where it just says drive.
It's kind of in an automatic state.
And then we have a plus level here,
which is a coasting state.
So it's just gonna coast along, not do any regen.
In electric mode, we have around, I think,
160-ish horsepower, a little north of 300
pound-feet of torque from the electric motor,
which is sandwiched in between the inline
six as well as the nine-speed automatic gearbox,
and honestly, the seamless transition, well,
I guess the transition has been pretty seamless between
these two powertrains over the course
of the week.
The only times I've noticed some kind of jerking or,
you know, a little hesitation was on actually
the highway when it's kind of in the...
Coasting or sailing state,
you really need to get on the power, but it's such a minor,
very small little blip.
It's not really noticeable, honestly, in day-to-day driving.
And speaking of day-to-day driving around town over here,
it is incredibly, incredibly smooth,
actually, for an AMG product. We do have adaptive dampers here,
so even in electric mode, I can put my dampers into sport, sport plus.
We're back into comfort mode really easily.
And there is quite a significant difference in Sport.
Sport Plus, honestly, it's just too stiff
for New York roads over here.
We're littered with potholes right now in the winter.
Popping it into, we have a battery hold mode as well.
We have a customizable mode here,
as well as a comfort and Sport.
Sport instantly kicks on our engine right here.
So you can hear that come to life real quick.
We'll get a quick little acceleration test
up this hill here.
this car this car is a sneaky sleeper riot
of a vehicle i can tell you that because
The second that engine turns on right there
this thing completely transforms itself into a true
monster. That power really unlocked itself.
I've been finding myself driving mostly in comfort as
it typically prioritizes electric driving
and then if you need the engine and floor it a little bit
the engine just instantly kicks
on as you saw right there and there is literally
barely a notice of a transition between the two powertrains.
It's that smooth as well.
The only downside I've noticed this week,
well one of the only downsides, is the brakes.
are quite grabby in a lot of cases actually.
So coming to a stop here, you always feel like
no matter how light you are on the brake,
it's really just aggressively coming to a stop.
This may be due to the fact that we have the upgraded
north of 15 inch AMG performance brakes on it,
this vehicle since we have the AMG Dynamic Plus Package.
Yeah, this thing does
not play around
in terms of acceleration.
And I have to say the shifts from this nine speed AMG
gearbox are really impressive.
A little bit laggy on the downshifts when you're using
the paddle shifters, but upshifts are, I mean, truly lightning quick.
It's really quite impressive over here.
Steering, you know, around town,
it's pretty direct, I would have to say.
Not too much stuff in terms of feel or feedback,
but overall, pretty light in most cases.
It is, you know, once you really start getting into it,
going into a corner, this car kind of surprises you a little bit.
So we're in comfort mode now.
You can kind of hear that electric drive sound since we are in EV mode.
Downshift sounds here.
Ooh, nice and spicy in this vehicle.
Yeah, this thing is anything but slow.
I can tell you that.
Thank you, Mercedes.
So we do have vehicle-to-X communications
and lots of nice warnings and safety systems.
Yeah, this thing has a lot of performance potential to it.
And the crazy part about this
is this is not even a full E63-level product
from Mercedes as well.
So hopefully we'll see that come down the road.
This vehicle is north of 5,000 pounds.
And, you know,
Typically, going around a corner, you know,
going hard into it, you notice length more
of the vehicle than actually its weight,
so that's a testament to this overall chassis
dynamics I think Mercedes has done.
This one has, you know, dynamic engine mounts,
all this crazy adaptive suspension stuff,
so all that's really keeping the vehicle overall
in check, I would have to say.
On the highway over here, of course it's quiet, of course it's...
Super comfortable.
And you can have all those wonderful,
amazing assistance features as well.
And this one has a fully upgraded assistance package.
So on the steering wheel over here,
I can turn it on very quickly.
Press my set speed right here, and voila,
the vehicle is doing quite a lot of the work
already for me.
So it has full steering assist on this particular E53 wagon.
We're also getting quite a few different levels
of distance adjustment as well we can play
around with, and it has automatic lane change on this vehicle as well.
You do actually have to have your hands
on the wheel at all times in this vehicle, but
as you can see now, it's decided to make
an automatic lane change to the left lane.
So it does that.
You can disable that.
Initiate your own lane changes.
This kind of works almost, I would say,
pretty much exactly how the Super Cruise system works,
minus the fact that you have to keep
your hands on the wheel at all times.
Mercedes is very quickly coming out
with very advanced systems this year.
So stay tuned for that.
And we have a really cool graphics page over here
for this assisted view,
where you can actually see
a little E53 wagon graphic in there,
which I think is absolutely awesome.
And like I mentioned, you can initiate lane changes.
So I can actually press the button here.
You do have to keep your hands on the wheel, I believe.
The car is actually changing lanes by itself.
And again, it will do it automatically,
depending on whether it thinks you can pass this vehicle.
It checks the blind spots for you.
And if the car is going too slow,
Compared to your set speed, it will, of course,
make that lane change in a very safe manner,
which I think is actually quite nice.
And of course, if you're using Mercedes's built-in navigation system,
you're going to get absolutely wild stuff happening in your heads
HUD display, as well as on your augmented reality navigation,
if you have that equipped in your center console area over there.
So again, really great and useful tech features.
It may seem a little bit like an overload at first,
but once you do get used to it, play around with it a bit,
you definitely will enjoy all this stuff quite a lot.
Hey Mercedes, turn on my driver's massage.
Hey Mercedes,
can you make my temperature 75 degrees?
I'm setting the temperature to 75 degrees.
Hey Mercedes, what's the weather like outside right now?
Currently it is mostly sunny in Greenberg
with a temperature of 19 degrees Fahrenheit.
Today it will be sunny with a low of 12
and a high of 23 degrees Fahrenheit.
Hey Mercedes, can you tell us a joke?
How can a man who shaves several times a day still have a long beard?
He's a barber.
As you can see here the voice assistant
is actually incredibly impressive in pretty
much every application and it's really quite
useful where it kind of highlights your area
where it's speaking versus if you're
in the passenger seat it's going to do the opposite
as well which is a really nice touch.
While we are out here on the highway and we are going to
have a quick listen now to our amazing audio system
in this vehicle. Now this particular
system here is truly nuts. So from our home screen
over here we can actually quickly access our audio
Audio settings and the media here,
and this is where things got pretty wild.
You have, you can set a personal sound profile,
you can do pure 3D sound,
sure, that gets all fun and crazy like that,
and of course you can control your infotainment screen
over here with the steering wheel,
so you don't have to take your eyes or hands off the wheel,
which is really nice.
We also have equalizer settings, balance and fader settings,
and then we have our 4D sound,
so very similar to the Body and Soul style seats
from Jaguar Land Rover products.
Typically in the Range Rovers.
These have, you know, these speaker systems
built into the seats that can almost vibrate you
and encapsulate you in this 4D style experience.
And it is quite crazy on this vehicle as well.
And I'm gonna pause this for a second
cause I almost forgot one crazy feature
that you may not like about this car, but it is an option.
You can have sound visualization.
So if I turn this on, now our ambient lighting
will play to the beat of the music.
Yeah, that is pretty crazy everyone.
So that was a quick little taste of our audio system
in this E53 AMG, the highest end Burmester audio system.
It is actually quite wonderful,
but I would turn off the sound visualization part to it
because I personally find it way too distracting actually.
This light bar is already a lot.
There's just so much about this vehicle
that I can't honestly fit into one video.
You know, it's the interior build quality
is honestly really amazing right now for this vehicle,
especially in this class of
vehicle. You know, there really haven't been any gripes,
I would say, with this car over the course
of our week of testing too.
So most of it has been very extremely positive.
One only other thing I may
add is that I feel like the seating position
in this E-Class is a little high. And I mentioned
this when we had the E-Class sedan a summer or two ago,
and I always felt I was sitting too high.
This is my lowest seating position right now.
And I cannot go any lower whatsoever.
So that's just one downside if you're kind
of wanting to get into this car
and want that really nice, low,
kind of sports car-esque driving experience.
You're not going to particularly get that here.
The flip side of that, you have a lot
of great visibility around you, actually.
So it makes you kind of sit higher regarding all of the glass in here.
Overall, this is such a special car. It's a very rare car.
We don't get a lot of wagons here in the
United States anymore, and I'm very happy
that Mercedes has decided to offer this here in the
U.S. market. You can get this vehicle in a sedan,
and you can almost look at this as a sort of
budget M5 or a budget RS6 because it comes in like a $10,000,
$20,000, $30,000 cheaper than
those vehicles. And this one's almost pretty much fully loaded
at around $117,000. Yes,
Yes, it's very expensive.
You can kind of get this under $100,000, but
You've got to remember, this is a special vehicle.
They're not really expecting to sell too many of them as well.
So, again, happy to have it here.
Happy we're able to drive it.
I've been having a great time with it over the week.
It's versatile, extremely luxurious, classy,
an understated, high-performance sleeper vehicle,
and I'd love to see more of this from Mercedes-AMG going down the road.
As always, guys, thank you for joining us
on yet another tour and review
over at All Car News, and stay tuned for more coming soon.
Cheers.
