Lamar Jackson Injury Sparks Ravens Quarterback Search

I want to start it off in Baltimore.
Here we go again.
Another year where we're going to miss a little bit of time here.
Maybe the entire season.
I saw that hand injury was like
the first play of the game against the Bills.
Lamar Jackson, lost for the year.
Do you believe that the Ravens go out in the market,
getting closer to the trading deadline,
and potentially make a move?
And your thoughts again on Lamar getting injured.
Yeah, I think obviously all the best to Lamar.
That looked like an ugly injury.
Anytime you have a quarterback who's injured on a follow-through,
whether it's a hand on a defender, a helmet, it can be pretty ugly.
And he was holding that right throwing hand,
throwing thumb pretty hard.
It was in a cast at the end of the game.
So it certainly doesn't look good for him.
And as far as what the Ravens are going to do moving forward,
I think if Tyler Huntley were healthy, they'd probably just say,
let's see what Huntley can do for us.
They've had some success with him as a backup quarterback,
Not high-end success, but...
With him dealing with a turf toe injury and,
you know, the uncertain future with him now,
and you're looking at starting on this Thursday night game,
Joe Fagnano, an undrafted rookie who
played collegiately at Maine and UConn.
So, you know, in my neck of the woods, we don't get a lot
of quarterback prospects up here.
But, you know, I'm looking at it from the Ravens perspective,
and I'm saying if I'm general manager Eric DeCosta.
And I think that this team can make a run in the playoffs.
I'm going to try to make a move for some sort
of stopgap veteran quarterback,
whether it's a Jacoby Brissett type from the Arizona Cardinals
who benched him this past week
and Gardner Minshew led them to a big comeback,
or if they could somehow get Kirk Cousins away from the Raiders.
And I don't think that that's necessarily likely
because the Raiders are 4-4 in the playoff race.
But Cousins would be the kind of guy
that if you're the Ravens, you're saying maybe
if we overpay for him a little bit,
maybe he could get us on a deep playoff run with
how he's playing.
That would be the kind of deals I'm looking at for the Ravens.
But more likely, I think they'll probably look
at some of those lower cost veterans
like Jacoby Brissett, who can just kind of hold
the fort until either Huntley gets healthy
or they just get through the season.
You know, the Buffalo Bills,
they end up winning that game 36 to 10 over the Ravens.
Do you think that the Bills...
Defense is good enough. And can Josh Allen cover for that defense?
They had a great performance
against the Ravens. But again, like you said,
the Ravens really had no threat at the quarterback
position in a championship setting.
You think Buffalo is good enough on that side of the
football to win an AFC championship?
I think it's a tough ask for them right now.
We're still waiting to see Jim Leonard's defense take full effect.
I think they're better against the run
this year than they've been in years past.
I like their defensive line.
Greg Rousseau and Deion Walker are just two mammoth,
like massive guys up there.
One at defensive tackle, one on the end.
So I like what they have there, but they
just haven't been consistent in coverage.
So I think it's going to be another situation
another year where we're looking at Buffalo
and we're saying this team will go as far as Josh Allen can carry it.
as we saw against the Ravens, you know,
they won that game big, but it was close for a while there.
It really took them until late in the game to get going.
And that was against the third string
quarterback, Joe Fignano for most of the game.
So I do have some concerns about the Bills and how
they'll hold up against some of these better offenses,
but also looking at the top teams
around the AFC, you know, like the Denver Broncos,
like, I don't think they have the
They have the most threatening offense in the world.
The Kansas City Chiefs could,
but they're going to have to add some talent at receiver
to really be able to put together a big threat,
because right now they're too reliant on Kenneth Walker.
So I think the Bills can get it done,
but certainly that defense could end up being their kryptonite,
and I still have concerns about it,
and that's entering Week 9 at this point.
So things should be getting better at this point,
and they aren't quite there yet.
