A few more days to end Donald Trump's presidency as we know it.
And it is good to be governor of the most un-Trump state in America.
And it's good to be here with all of you that have a state of mind
that understands what's at stake in the United States.
Donald Trump is an invasive species.
There's no other way to describe it.
Ours!
Just a few more days.
Just a few more days.
I say this all the time.
For things to change, we need to change.
And you see that change all across this country.
People stepping up, stepping in.
People like yourselves that are here
not only for yourselves, but for each other.
Because you recognize what's on the line.
And I want to thank you for speaking on the line.
Thank you for holding the line
and redrawing the lines here in California
with Proposition 50.
Talk about a power grab.
It is amazing to think back just a year and a half ago.
A lot of us were hand-wringing, navel-gazing,
going, what the hell is going on?
You know, sat through September 6th,
this guy lost the election, tried to light democracy on fire,
made a call to try to find 12,000 votes in Georgia,
and we barely held the line.
And here we are again, last year,
and this guy is now making phone calls to governors like Greg Abbott,
saying, I'm entitled to five seats.
And we all could have just booed.
We all could have just complained about it.
We may have even gone out and collectively written an op-ed
and got in the New York Times and said,
gosh, darling, this is so wrong.
But instead, you all stood up and stepped up
and redrew the lines and fought fire with fire.
And in the spirit of Adam Schiff,
you poked the bear and the bear fought back.
But none of us are naive.
I remember being in a room with many, literally,
I'm seeing so many familiar faces with so many of you.
We were all there together just down the road at the Democracy Center
when we kicked off the campaign for democracy.
We were there at the site, Little Tokyo, the sacred site where we
were interning the Japanese not so many years ago.
And there was a chill in the air.
About 400 or 500 people came inside.
Many of you came inside, but there was a chill in the air.
And people said, you don't know what's going on.
I said, what's going on?
And we looked outside, and there's a bunch of people in masks,
a bunch of people with unmarked cars.
And there was one guy that looked like he just walked off the set
of a Burbank Studio 1930s circa film
by the name of Greg Bovino.
We said it at the time, it was a preview of things to come.
You saw Bovino, you saw what happened all across the United States,
just as you saw here in Los Angeles
when we were the first state that had the National Guard federalized.
4,000 of our National Guards men and women were federalized.
700 active duty Marines were not sent overseas,
they were sent here in Los Angeles.
Donald Trump is not screwing around, nor are we.
So it's a long way of saying this.
You're seeing it.
He's trying to get those ballots.
He's trying to purge the rolls.
He's trying to decide who's counted and who's not.
You've seen the assault on the rule of law.
You've seen the assault on truth and trust.
It is all on the line.
Our founding fathers lived and died for this moment.
And remember, we're supposed
to be celebrating that moment 250 years ago.
The best of the Roman Republic, the best of Greek democracy,
co-equal branches of government, popular sovereignty,
the rule of law, not the rule of Don.
And so I hope it's done on all of us, all of us.
What's at stake this Tuesday?
It is all on the line.
We need to show up in record numbers.
You need to show up in record numbers.
We need to take back the House of Representatives.
We need, Speaker Jeffries, we need to restore that rule of law.
It's all about you.
And so I long-windedly just want to say
this before I introduce the man of the hour.
And that is, thank you for everything you guys have done.
It's been extraordinary to date.
Thank you for everything you guys have done.
Thank you for showing up for each other.
Thank you for showing up for this country.
But more importantly, thank you
for what you're going to do in the next 48 hours.
The future is not in front of us.
It's inside of us.
It's decisions, not conditions, that determine our fate and future.
You have agency.
You can shape that future.
And so for all of us, thank you for this extraordinary moment.
Thank you for getting this close, but don't run the 90-yard dash.
Don't run the 90-yard dash, not only for a co-equal branch
of government, not only for the rule of law,
but don't run the 90-yard dash because you have
the opportunity to elect a governor that not only gets it,
but gets things done, that is so uniquely prepared for this moment.
Secretary Becerra.
The reason California has done more
on health care than any other state in the nation,
because of Secretary of Health and Human Service,
Becerra, who was there for California,
that got us those waivers, that got us those support.
It was Becerra, and you heard it, to talk about a fighter,
someone that's going to hold the line,
122 lawsuits against the Trump administration.
He was a fierce advocate for the values
that define the best of this state.
And so in that spirit, the best of the Roman Republic,
Greek democracy, the spirit that defines
the values of the most diverse state
and the world's most diverse democracy, the great state of California.
