What is the Universe Made Of¿ ¦ Galaxies, Dark Matter, and Dark Energy Explained

Look up at the night sky and you'll see stars, planets and galaxies. But beneath the beauty lies a profound question. What is the universe made of? Today we'll explore the fundamental components of our cosmos and uncover the mysteries they hold. Everything we see, stars, planets and even ourselves, is made of ordinary matter, also known as baryonic matter. This includes atoms, which are made of protons, neutrons and electrons, combining to form the elements we know from the periodic table. Yet, ordinary matter makes up only about 5% of the universe. What about the rest? Scientists have discovered that galaxies wouldn't hold together with just ordinary matter. Enter dark matter, an invisible substance that provides the gravitational glue holding galaxies and galaxy clusters in place. Dark matter makes up about 27% of the universe, yet it doesn't emit, absorb or reflect light, making it incredibly elusive. We know it exists because of its gravitational effects, but its true nature remains one of science's greatest mysteries. If dark matter holds the universe together, dark energy is tearing it apart. Dark energy is a mysterious force driving the accelerated expansion of the universe, discovered through the observation of distant supernovae. Dark energy accounts for a staggering 68% of the universe. It's as if the universe has a hidden engine, pushing space to grow larger every second. So, here's the cosmic recipe. 68% dark energy, 27% dark matter, and just 5% ordinary matter. This means most of the universe is invisible and beyond our current understanding. While we've uncovered the universe's basic ingredients, many questions remain unanswered. What is dark matter made of? What is the true nature of dark energy? And how do these components interact? With cutting-edge technology and collaboration, scientists are getting closer to solving these puzzles, revealing more about the universe and our place within it. The universe is a cosmic masterpiece, vast, mysterious, and filled with unknowns. Understanding its composition is like deciphering the greatest story ever told. What will the next chapter reveal?
