UCF Wide Receiver Josh Derry Addresses 'Nauts' Offensive Struggles Against Baylor
Oct 31, 2026
the corner after the game last week.
So how disappointing was it to come out
and have this kind of performance tonight?
Yeah, definitely not the outcome we wanted.
We started off slow, we didn't play our brand of football.
Josh, how good was it to see the Lions get
an opportunity to come back on the field
after he's been kind of out for the last five years?
What did you notice from them maybe a few weeks after that?
Yeah, I'm happy for them to be able
to be out there coming from off the injury.
I know that's something they're waiting for.
You guys weren't able to find that in some of those games.
What's frustrating about that?
Yeah, we just didn't play our brand of football.
We played a game slow.
I went to the game pretty slow.
And I thought you had to be better than me.
Did Baylor show you differently than you guys compared to them?
Honestly, I think the squad over there, we played our best game.
We didn't play our best game.
We got to be better and faster all around.
What did they do for this challenge?
We play football. I mean, you know, I've already gained enough,
and now the team is doing what they do,
and we do what we do, and it is what it's all about.
Josh, what was it like having to switch gears with a lot
to come back in as far as just you getting a quarterback?
I mean, it was different. You know,
we prepared all quarterbacks in practice.
You know, the parents saying, you know,
you came to the game, just like practice.
How do you personally drive your career,
handle the ups and downs, the emotional rollercoaster that
has been accomplished in all your lives?
Yeah, you know, at the end of the day, it's always just a lesson.
You know, you deal with it, watch the film,
and see if you did wrong, see if you came
in wrong, and you grow from it, and you move on.
Good luck.
You work with what you have week to week through the season,
but in the short week, did you guys feel like you had enough time
to prepare and get prepared for this game?
A hundred percent. Both those process staff definitely take care of us.
We put in the work, put in time, and we're ready to go for the game.
Josh, you mentioned pushing this game forward pretty personally.
How do you go about doing that?
Yeah, watch the tape, see what I can do better,
the team on offense can do better,
and kind of apply those things, go into practice,
and pretty much be done at the moment.
Keywon goes down, Alonzo has to come back in,
left-handed quarterback versus right-handed quarterback.
Do you have to change how you play
to handle the different spin of the ball?
Not at all.
At the end of the day, my job is to catch the ball,
so it doesn't matter if I'm going left-handed or right-handed.
I'll do my best.
The highest of highs last week,
and now this is the lowest point of the season.
How do you kind of not let this one linger
and get ready to try to win a road game next week against Kansas?
Yeah, like I said, just flush it.
Half the game is over, 5-0, so at the end
of the day, all you can do is just...
Going to the next camp over the pass and say,
watch the film and get ready to play.
Josh, it seemed like some of the team
players were going back and forth.
Was there a little bit of frustration being expressed on both sides?
It's part of the game.
Obviously, it's an emotional game.
You know, guys talking, being physical.
That's all it is to go back and forth.
What do you wear in a game like this?
I would just say that we're going to take it.
Obviously, we've got to come up with more energy to start the game.
But I thought football would come out fast,
so just being able to apply that,
see if we can get it wrong in the game, and do that.
