THE SEVEN MOSQUE in Madinah-The SITE of an ancient BATTLE , the story of 7 Masjid
Assalamualaikum
Today we'll be going to these seven mosques they are linked to Ghazwat al-Khandaq (the Battle of the Trench), also known as Ghazwat al-Ahzab (Battle of the Confederates), and they are located on the western side of the Sala’ Mountain, near a part of the trench which the Muslims dug during the Prophet’s time to defend Medina when the armies of Quraysh and tribes allied with it marched towards it in 5 A.H.Muslims defending Medina were stationed in these mosques and each mosque was named after the person who was stationed there, except for Al-Fath Mosque. From north to south, these mosques are Al-Fath Mosque, Salman Al-Farsi Mosque, Abu Bakr As-Siddiq Mosque, Umar bin Khattab Mosque Ali bin Abi Talib Mosque, and Fatimah Az-Zahra Mosque.
Constructed above a hill in the western region of Sela Mountain, Masjid al Fatah is the largest of the seven mosques. It marks the site of the Battle of Ahzab and pays tribute to the historic victory of the Muslims of Madinah.
According to Islamic history, Masjid al Fatah was first built during the Caliphate of Umar (RA) at the site of the command post of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). It was renovated by Saifuddin Abu al-Hija in 1154 and restored during the reign of Fahad bin Abdul Aziz al-Saud.
Jabir (RA) narrated that Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) made dua for three days during the Battle of Ahzab. One of these supplications was: “O Allah, Revealer of the Book, swift in taking account, turn the confederates to flight, O Lord defeat them and cause them to quake.”“There is no God but Allah, the One who conferred upon His armies the honor of victory and helped His servant and routed the confederates alone; there is nothing after that.”The roof of Masjid Fatah provides a panoramic view of the entire battlefield. It is also known as Masjid A’la and Masjid Ahzab.

The al-Fatah Mosque (مسجد الفتح) is the largest of all mosques at the site of the Battle of Ahzab. It is built on a small peak, where according to tradition the command post of the prophet Muhammad was pitched during the battle. The peak where the mosque is built provides a panoramic view of the entire battlefield. It is located near the foot of Mount Sela', near the northern flank of the mount. The mosque was most likely constructed between 705 and 711 CE (during the reign of Umar ibn Abd al-Aziz) for the first time, then it was refurbished in 1179 CE. Ottoman Sultan Abdul Majid I rehabilitated it in 1851 CE
The facade of the mosque of Salman Farsi (مسجد سلمان الفارسي). It is located south of al-Fath Mosque, 20 meters from the base of Mount Sela'. It is named after Salman the Persian, a companion of the Prophet Muhammad who recommended digging a trench to fortify the city from an invasion. A striking feature of the mosques is their small size, it has just one hall 7 meters long and 2 meters wide. It was also built during the governorship of Umar ibn Abd al-Aziz in Madinah. In 1179 CE (575 Hj.) it was rebuilt on the orders of minister Said al-Deen Abu al-Haija. It was rebuilt again during the reign of the Ottoman Sultan Abd al-Majid I.
The Mosque of Umer (مسجد عمر بن الخطاب) at the site of Ghazwa-i Khandaq. The details of its origins are vague, although its name indicates that Omar bin al-Khattab, the second caliph, may have prayed there. The mosque features the same architectural characteristics as the al-Fath mosque, indicating they were constructed during the same period. The mosques, in fact, are utilitarian and without adornment.
