The Atlantic Road, known in Norwegian as Atlanterhavsvegen, is one of Norway’s most famous scenic roads. Construction began in the 1980s and the road officially opened in 1989.

The famous Atlantic Road section stretches approximately 8.3 km across a chain of small islands and skerries, connected by several bridges. Its most recognizable landmark is the striking Storseisundet Bridge, whose dramatic curve has become one of the defining images of Norway’s coastline.

The Atlantic Road is also part of the Norwegian Scenic Route Atlanterhavsvegen, a longer scenic route running between Kårvåg and Bud through some of the most beautiful coastal landscapes in the region.

Today, the road is known around the world for its unusual engineering, exposed ocean setting and spectacular combination of mountains, islands and sea.
